"Probably what he meant to do.  He didn't know about the details.  Lizard-serum is the name that stuck, after what happened."  Gwen starts (or continues) crying.  "You missed that part of the story."

"I'm sorry... for your loss. I'm just trying to imagine getting that far... when I was his age. And... you're not another clone. A real Gwen Stacy. There's a real, living Gwen Stacy."

"If you're 'not from around here', where are you from, and how did you get here?"

"And if I'm supposed to be dead, why did you come looking for me?"

Gwen wipes away tears.

"So... skipping ahead to today.  I got pulled out of an explosion and into a desert at the end of time by some dude named Timebroker.  He said I needed to fix timelines to get back home.  He sent me here, with some cryptic poem about 'save the spider's kin.'"  Gwen did not memorize the poem.  "Saw the newspaper.  Then you came on live tv.  Figured you two had to be in danger.  Or May and Ben.  It's safe there too?  It's gotta be a big target on you."

"Well, Mary-Jane's as safe as she could possibly be, here in Stark Tower. I asked-- I begged Aunt May to stay here, but she said it was 'improper'. And said MJ and I should have our own space, hint hint. She actually said 'hint hint'."

"Uncle Ben... is the first person I failed to save. When I was first bitten. May and MJ are all the family I have left."

"Oh god."  Gwen knows just about exactly how that feels.  She's been blaming herself for Peter's death this whole time.

She jumps off the wall and gives him a hug.  "Does that mean you have a guest room for a couple days while I figure out what a cosmic entity wants from me?

How does registration work for interdimensional refugees?  I can't stay forever."

Peter hesitates before Mary-Jane speaks up. "Of course you can stay, Gwen. You can stay in the nur--" She winces. "The spare bedroom. We'll call Guest Services and get an adult bed for you."

Peter seems to find his wits. "There's an amnesty for registering super... anythings, really. Clean slate for anyone coming forward. SHIELD can issue you a whole new identity, based on your biometrics and whatever biographical information you give them."

"If you need to protect 'the spider's family', maybe you've got the wrong spider? We haven't heard from Kaine since... for a few years, now. He might have a family of his own now. Jessica Drew just had a baby."

"Jesse Drew was the astronaut that first encountered the spiders on the moon."  Only survivor, but it's a shorter story this way.  "It's Jessica here?  And she spins webs?"

"Being sent right before your announcement - I was sure that had to be it.  And Timebroker knows how close I am to Em Jay, if not you too."

Gwen brightens up when Em Jay says nur-- but then realizes.  Something happened there.  There's a lot of sadness in this house.  Is that what twenty years as Spider-Woman will do to her?   "I'm probably going to get yanked out of here to some other reality as soon as this is cleared up, so I doubt a whole new identity is necessary - but I don't want to cause trouble with you harboring a fugitive.

I do kiiiinda need to apologize to a SHIELD agent on the roof for webbing her up and stealing her badge to get in.  Can you help me do that?  And registered?  I don't want to get shot at by your friends.".  Some of those friends seem pretty sketchy.

"No. I'm not sure why they call her Spider-Woman at all, to be honest. I asked her why, since she didn't spin webs, and she asked me why my webs didn't come out of my butt. It's a stalemate."

When Gwen hands over the badge, her image peels off of it and turns into spiders that merge into her sleeve.  The info of the SHIELD agent remains underneath.

Peter takes the ID badge and immediately puts his hand over his mouth. At first you think he might be horrified... but you realize he's snickering. Without comment, he hands it over to Mary-Jane; as she starts laughing, too, Peter says, "I'd better go find her before someone else does!" and rushes out of the room, forgetting the badge.

Mary-Jane composes herself. A little. "Well, if I doubted your story at first... we definitely know you're 'not from around here' now."

Gwen blushes.  Whoever that was was important.   "I didn't want to cause trouble.  Just needed to talk to you two, and the front door is... a big mess.

So you're famous here?  I saw the ad for your show, and the news.

If I'm dead, who's your drummer?"

"I'm mostly just a singer... I use techs when I'm not singing on someone else's track. I guess I'm probably the singer for your band... what's it called?"

"So, uh... you and Harry, did that go anywhere? We used to double-date, when you... the other you were alive. He'd give Peter money so they could pretend to split the check."

"You sing and play guitar.  We're called The Mary Janes and I know you want to laugh but you can't because it was your idea."  This Mary Jane might be less intimidating than the one back home... so far at least.

She pulls out and holds up her phone.  "Pretty sure I have video of at least one of our shows on here if you want to see.

This place is strange for me.  Where I'm from it's 2021 and you're my age.  So when I saw 2006... I thought Pete and I would be on a playground somewhere.  I wasn't expecting this trip to be personal."

"Harry is more complicated. He blamed Spider-woman for Pete's death for a while.  Got really angry.  We got past that and he knows now, but I'm kind of a terrible girlfriend.  I keep running out on dates to web-sling.  I broke it off again."

"You said... You said my clone showed up." Quick math...  "Two dozen times?  What keeps happening to them?"

I thought Peter was out of the room apologizing to whoever I just webbed up on the top floor and/or bringing an angry SHIELD director back.  I'll need to edit if MJ is revealing she has spider-powers too.

The interruption at the door comes before Gwen can respond.

"I'm ready, yeah."  Gwen takes the tablet and starts filling out the registration form.  "What kind of tests are the equipment for?"

As she does, she resumes her conversation with MJ.  "So, Norman Osborn killed your Gwen and is involved in this cloning thing to torture you?  Did I do something to him or Harry in this world, or was it because I... she was dating Spider-Man?".

Multiple Gwens is a new concept and she's clearly having a hard time figuring out whether to use first or third person.

"Does this Warren guy work for him or something?  It sounds so cruel.  If they have her memories and go looking for help from you."

The young SHIELD agent tries to be comforting. "It's nothing to worry about... we just take blood, skin, hair, and saliva samples to make positive identification easier. There are more extensive procedures for people who volunteer to have their powers studied."

"Em Jay, I'm sorry to dig up old wounds.  I didn't know.  I'm still kinda shocked about seeing Peter, and his having Spider powers.  A real, live Peter Parker.  After what happened today, I didn't think I'd see you again either."

Where I'm from, Norman only ever cared about me when he needed me to help Harry.  And I think there's a Jackal in Man-Wolf's gang but I've never even met him.  I don't know why he'd be obsessed with me."  It sounds like something happened to Harry here too.

She can't exactly get up for a hug while getting her blood drawn.  Gwen reaches over to grip MJ's forearm to comfort her.  "It's good to know that Jameson being an asshole is a universal constant.".  Ugh that was a terrible joke.

The SHIELD agent hands you back your old fake ID, and then hands you a lemony-fresh, uncomfortably warm new fake ID. "All registered, you can now legally operate in the United States. And... no. We have no clue how spider-powers work, really. There's like six different original spiders that we're aware of... they all got their powers through different means, and they don't even have the same powers."

She loads up the various samples she's going to have to document. "But one and all, when you're looking at the slide... you can just look at them and say 'yup, spider'." In a conspirational whisper, she adds, "I don't even know what's going on with your DNA, but I can tell you're one."



She sniffles, and puts her hand over yours. "It's okay, Gwen, I feel like you have a right to know. And... it's good to talk about it. With someone else. Until earlier tonight, the only people I could talk to were people who'd been there, you know?" She chuckles ruefully. "The irony, right?"

OOC: It's possible that Funnybone still has Gwen's Tallus generated ID/wallet, as she handed it to him and said go check on the Parker house.

"Six!? What?  You know, nevermind, I'll get the story later."

Her attention goes back to MJ.

"It turns out you need to be able to talk to your friends about all the fucked up superhero shit that happens all the time.

You're actually the one that taught me that.  Technically you did it by figuring out who I was and texting me to 'wave at the camera' while Spider-Woman was on live tv.  But you know, it helped.  I didn't have to lie about why I was missing things, and we could all help each other.  Plus, the number of my friends trying to kill me has dropped way down."

"On that note, there's a talking Rabbit talking to your doorman.  He's helping me.  Can you make sure he gets let in the building?  I don't actually know if he's supposed to register - I don't think he has any abilities above humans."

Once things are more settled, Gwen has a few priorities.
1. Get her backpack of not actually useful in-game shit from her homeworld that she left on the rooftop next door.
  - write the poem from the Tallus in her notebook.
2. Food.  Pizza with Cauliflower and Pepperoni if she's choosing.
3. She wants to sit on the couch with Pete and MJ and watch the cheesiest movie MJ has ever been in.
4. Talk with Rocket about what each of them figured out.

It doesn't take particularly long for Rocket to make his way back to the tower from the bar.  He'll assume the door guard doesn't know he's invited yet, and make his way to a back door with a camera.

He'll give the door a light try.  If it opens, he'll make his way in like he's expected there.  If not, he'll knock and wait around to get let in.

1. Easily accomplished. You don't have free run of the place (anymore), but you're cleared from any of the main entrances to and from the public and residential areas of Stark Tower. The security guards are surprisingly sanguine about you making them look like idiots... some of them even ask for selfies and/or autographs.

2. Peter makes a face, and orders the exact same thing your Peter always ordered. Brrr. Timing wise, assume Rocket arrives in time for pizza and movie.

3. Mary Jane puts on some horrendous direct-to-DVD schlock called Red Sonja: She-Devil with a Sword, some... truly godawful low budget fantasy set thousands of years before the earliest record history. Mary Jane delights in pointing out that only did she star as the title character... she'd actually met her, during some unpleasant business with the sorcerer Kulan Gath

There's a door guard at the back door, too. He says you're expected, but he still needs a name and an ID. Your SWORD diplomatic credentials suffice, and a security guard is assigned to take you anywhere (within reason) you ask to go.

Rocket is quite surprised to be asked where he wants to go.  After being denied access to 'the armory where you keep the good stuff' he askes to go to 'wherever my co-worker wound up.'  After some brief confused questioning, he gets sent up to Peter's floor.

Rocket whistles in surprise as the elevator doors open.  "Somebody's got too much money."  He is guided to the left towards the correct section, and he makes his way to the door.  He'll ring the doorbell, and overhears something about pizza as someone gets to the door.  As soon as the door opens, Rocket looks around for Spider-Woman, offering a short wave.  "Looks cozy.  Door guy didn't want me snooping around the local armory, anywhere I could net myself some less lethal ordinance?  A workshop or lab works if ya got some decent parts laying around.  I'm assuming we're short on time."

Gwen wears her costume when she goes out of the apartment, (selfies yes, autographs no) and when she gets back, changes into a 'Mary Janes' band tee-shirt with shorts.  She writes the poem (in an obnoxiously pink pen) in a notebook that was clearly for a college class until just now:

Probably best to not mention that we're in contact with the others, since the rest of SHIELD wants to hunt their new friends. *

When Rocket arrives at the door, she tells them "This is Rocket, we met at the end of time, we're working on this riddle about saving your world."  She holds up the page with the poem, lets them read it.

Rocket, this is Pete and Em Jay.  Alternate older versions of my friends.". She almost says much older.    "Maybe Pete is sorta me in this dimension, since he got my powers."

If the weapons the SHIELD officers she saw looked non-lethal, Gwen will tell Rocket about them.  If they don't, that raises more questions about these people.   She'll mostly leave that question to Pete.  Gwen can't offer access to web-shooters since she doesn't have mechanical ones anymore.

Assume there's a little time before the movie for Rocket to get what he needs - it is time sensitive after all.

Gwen eats more food than someone of her size should be able to, even taking into account her being a teenager.  She goes back for more halfway through the movie, making sure to get plenty of veggies even though she doesn't seem to love them.  Her symbiote is happiest when Gwen is well fed, and she does not need to start getting headaches in the middle of battle if shit gets real at Midnight.

She has so many questions about the movie, which she describes as amazing, despite the writing, acting, and effects being pretty terrible.

Among the questions: "How could you fight in that outfit?  Didn't it chafe?  Not that you don't look hot as fuck in a chainmail bikini but I try to do my fighting covered head-to-toe, and with a sports bra."  Any issues Gwen has fighting without proper support are clearly going to be magnified for MJ.  "Maybe it's because I treat gravity as a thing that applies to other people."

"Did you do your own stunts?"  That would be helpful right now if someone went after her, even if it was likely that that person would have powers.

"You mean real Sorcerer, not just some guy that sets himself on fire?"  Slight pause.  "I guess I do know that Samurai who was cursed by a witch so he can't die, so maybe magic at least was real at home.  And Cap said she fought a sorcerer but that was in a different dimension.

The majority of SHIELD agents you've seen are carrying both standard semi-automatic firearms and high voltage stun batons. Mandroid units presumably have an entire suite of weaponry, but if Rocket even looks twice at them, they'll withdraw from scene protectively clutching their everything.

Peter is happy to show Rocket to his personal workshop and, under his supervision, a SHIELD armory. The SHIELD armory is mostly full of bigger, but still boring, monkey-guns but they do have quantities of flashbang and concussion grenades that Peter will sign out of you, and some early prototypes for mass-producer repulsor rifles.

Assume Rocket can use his Weapon d8 and SFX without causing permanent damage unless he's trying for something else-- a good opportunity to buy a Combat or Tech Resource.



Peter and MJ look it over thoroughly, making concerned faces and more concerned noises. Peter says, "This... really is not a lot to work with, is it? What kind of screwjob is this Timebroker?"

"I see what you mean about 'The Weaver' being a reference to Peter... but his 'kin goes bare'? He's not literally a weaver..."



"Almost as bad. The whole thing was glued on. I had the worst breakouts for weeks after shooting."



"That's... a tricky question. Her timeline and my timeline were... kinda... merged for awhile, and they kept blurring in and out of focus. Sometimes she was here with us in New York, and sometimes we were there with her in Stygia." She gulps, and pauses, and says, "Sometims I was her, and sometimes she was me."

"You asked if I did my own stunts?" She disappears into the master bedroom for a minute, and rummages around with something in the closet. She emerges with a leather harness with a couple of sheathed swords hanging from it, fastens it securely around her waist and shoulders, and draws an elegant saber. With her eyes closed, she starts performing some distant cousin-- or ancestor-- of the Cossack saber dance, looping the sword around her body faster and faster as she whirls around the spacious apartment.

She stops, suddenly, and bows with both of her sabers crossed in front of her; you're not sure when she drew the second one. She sheathes them, and smiles. "They made me tone down the stunts for the movie, because they didn't think the audience would believe in them. The real Sonja was even better."

((Smart little robos.)) ((I agree 110%.  Rocket's MCU/Cartoon kill count is zero on-screen organic kills.  His primary profession is bounty hunter, and he's used (excess) explosives non-lethally.  He certainly stretches the suspension of disbelief.))

"The more you hear, the worse he gets."  Rocket is quick to chime in.

    "I'm Rocket, Ex-Rabbit and Guardian of the Galaxy."  'People like titles here, right?'  "If you take any of that nonsense literally, you already lost.  I assume Gwen here is the Weaver, and Peter here being her counter-timeline copy makes you both kin.  It lines up better with the next line given that Peter here just threw away his alternate identity, which is 'kin goes bare' enough for me given our arrival timing and Gwen's expression at that time."  ((He'll leave out the part about Stacy never telling him him her name.  She saw him rifling through everyone's stuff, right? :P ))

"The part that sucks is the 'bloody hands' line can mean someone killing as much as being killed, and the life thread thing sounds a lot more like friendship or some other type of made connection then a blood one such as family.  Anyone you know dies tonight, and the entire universe could fall apart.  On that note, I got stuff to build... where can I~" ((Cut off here for transition.  Fill in gaps if ya want.))

Rocket is delighted to hear about a workshop, and with the gadgets Peter deals with, Rocket is quite happy with the tech laying about.  He immediately starts working on building sets of suppression gear.  Assuming the movie is within earshot Rocket listens in as he works, chuckling at particularly bad line reads.  Rocket will spend as much time as possible preparing for what he assumes will be a big fight.

The items Rocket builds (and willing to ask Peter to help with) first are multiple sets of paired cuffs that electromagnetically bind themselves to make for a very uncomfortable self-tightening zip-tie that can easily paralyze someone if used 'improperly' on a target.  Rocket's tools, reinforcement techniques, and power supply rigging are quite literally out of this world.
((I assume Peter would be interested.  Making the same thing in light bulk to save time? Check.  Rocket's build speed is frighteningly fast in MCU proper.  You also said rigging phones into coms was time consuming, so I'll stop here unless prompted to add more assets.  How many rolls am I making?  Would a single shared asset of 'pirate space cuffs' be a thing? Rocket now has 0 PP, and the  d8 asset 'Tech Restraints' have been added.))

Rocket gives an impressed whistle after listening to those blade(s) whirl. "Sounds like you could give Gamora an enjoyable sparring match."  'Wonder if I should cuff her first when the fights break out.'

Spend your Plot Point, you've got a d8 'tech restraints' resource. Technically, it only lasts through the next scene-- I'm saying it will persist until you or Gwen use them, and then for the rest of that Scene.

It is Midnight. The Superhuman Registration Act is now in Effect. There is a d8 'Superhuman Civil War' Scene Distinction on all Scenes going forward.

"Timebroker could have taken me out of my world at any time, but he chose an exploding building.  A suspicious one - with the Storms back in Latveria and the Hand inactive in the city since Murdock went to jail, there shouldn't be anyone able to sneak in and set it without setting off my spider-sense.  So I think Timebroker caused it.  But if I don't do what he wants and get back home exactly when I left, I'm not the one that pays the price for it."  Her eyes flick to MJ when she gets to that part.

"Speaking of Spider-sense, Rocket found something very disturbing when talking to that assassin you have working the door, and I need more details."


OOC: Gwen said her first name when introducing Cable to everyone in the alley.  She did not stop you from rifling through her id, and her first AND last names have been said through the telepathic channel by Sue and Tigro. (possibly others) So I think we're covered here.

"That's as good a theory as any of the ones I have."  She writes her own name in the margins, with a question mark.  "Try to keep everyone from dying is pretty much what I normally do anyway, so we'll just stick with that until we have something concrete."



"Well that was badass.  And makes me feel better.  Have you considered carrying around a pair of those SHIELD stun batons until this gets sorted out?"  She's emotional at this request, because losing two MJs in the same day would be really messed up.  And obviously stun batons are less likely to end up with someone being dead than the swords would be.



When Rocket finishes and offers 'pirate space cuffs' Gwen says, "I usually just web my opponents to things to restrain them.  It's pretty effective.  I guess this would be better if it's someone really big or if they have claws or fire."

Rhino was just mentioned as someone potentially guarding this building, and he can't be restrained by normal webs, so there could be a use for it.

Rocket barely looks up from whatever bit of tech he's tinkering with.  (Vaguely resembles a rocket-propelled claw with some kind of injection system.  Has a small antenna.)  "Oh yeah, that.  Turns out Oscorp has recently finished a little serum that can negate Peter's ability to dodge the shots from exceptionally talented professional marksmen.  Said marksman also told me you stuck him to a garbage truck, and that's hilarious.  ...Don't tell him how you found out, unless you have a serum to give me 'spider dodging.'  No idea how he's supposed to inject it into your body with said ability, but it exists somewhere.  If we're unlucky they'll shift it from liquid to gas.  If we're lucky, Osborn and his goons are actually on our side like Bullseye believes.  Unrelated, a picture of your head is worth a lot."  With that said, Rocket will scrap the idea he was working on and start tinkering something else together.

Peter makes a face. "I'm not... working with Norman. I work for Tony, Norman works for SHIELD, who works for Tony. Even as the Director, Tony can't just shut down the Thunderbolts program. It's..." Peter grimaces even further, like the lemon he's sucking on just grew a few too many legs. "... working."

"Norman's working for SHIELD, and the Thunderbolts are working for SHIELD... and at least for now, that means they're saving lives instead of taking them. And if we can convince more powered criminals to come in from the cold..."

Peter finally swallows his imaginary lemon demon. "There's a future where SHIELD doesn't need the likes of Norman Osborn anymore, and he'll face justice the right way. I have to believe in that."

Peter frowns. "Norman's had it for awhile. He's used it on me before, but I didn't think he'd be willing to share it."

"Jameson's never paid that much, but he's probably not going to buy my pictures anymore anyway," he says, "Tony's enemies can afford a lot more than my enemies, and they can't afford to get past Stark security."

Gwen thinks, I just got past Stark security.  It's not that good.

Gwen made Peter feel bad about this - and honestly she's probably done worse.     "If you think this the right thing, I'm with you.  I've worked with people I don't trust too.  This world is obviously different, since that wasn't Samantha Wilson as Captain America on that newspaper, Norman is a supervillain instead of the Green Goblin being Harry trying to avenge your death, and Tony Stark doesn't mostly sell coffee.

Probably better he has those gauntlets than Frank Castle anyway.  Unless..."

"Nevermind.  There's too much different, and most of it doesn't matter.

Why don't we try to enjoy the quiet time and the cheesy movies with our friends while we have it?  I know it can't last."

The four of you stay up way too late, mostly just enjoying each other's company. When you eventually fall asleep, you crash hard, and you are awakened too early by shouting in Peter and Mary Jane's living room.

"Why the Hell didn't you tell me, Pete? Did you forget?"

"Look, it all happened in a hurry, okay? We had to be sure, it was... it wasn't... how did you find out so quickly, anyway?"

"How do you think I heard? My father told me."

Bitterness creeps into Peter's voice. "Did you stop to consider maybe that's why I didn't tell you?"

You feel the shockwave before you hear the crash.

Harry Osborn is leaving the apartment, without bothering to close the door behind him. Mary Jane is helping Peter extricate himself from the living room wall; there's a cut on his cheekbone, trickling blood, and the beginnings of an impressive bruise are forming around it. Mary Jane looks at Gwen and Rocket helplessly and half-shrugs as her husband shakes bits of drywall and broken glass and potting soil out of his boxer shorts.

Gwen runs out of the guest bedroom, still dressed in the t-shirt and shorts from last night.  She takes a quick look and asks Pete,

"Is this about you revealing your identity, or about me being here?"  Gwen wants to know if she should try to follow Harry and smooth this out - or if that would make it worse.

"You," he confirms. "Sorry, Gwen. I should have realized... something. I don't know. It's my fault."

Gwen doesn't need to hear any more.  She makes the same hand-motion Peter makes when he triggers his webs and sends a web-line through the door to pull herself onto the ceiling in the hallway.
OOC: Since Gwen is wearing a t-shirt and nothing on her wrists, this would let them know that she can make webs on her own.

She stands on the ceiling and starts running along it in the direction of the noise, yelling "Harry, wait!"

Gwen's t-shirt defies gravity by not falling "upwards" but her hair doesn't.

Rocket wakes with a start, jumping up on the chair with his gun drawn.  Its hum implying he nearly puts holes in something, and his inhaled breath soon after implying he nearly shouted.  'Krutacking Quill!  ...wait, dead, copy self, fell asleep.'  After a couple seconds Rocket lets out a sigh and puts his gun away.

By the time MJ looks to Rocket, he's out of the chair and moving to help pull Peter from the wall and dust him off.  Soon after, he takes a sidestep to dodge out of Gwen's way.

As soon as Rocket figures Harry is out of earshot, he pipes up.  "So, that was a son of the guy who made the anti-spider serum?  You make friends as terribly as I do."  Rocket chuckles.  "I honestly thought everything was going to go to hell last night, nice to see something close to normal.  I sure hope this isn't a week long gig (or worse) given the indefinite workload we got ahead of us with the multiple failing timelines.  Could we a get a giant list of your friends to keep an eye on and where to find them?  I didn't realize this was going to take days.  If it turns to months I'll take you guys on a space tour.  Honorary Guardians of the Galaxy!  It'll be fun!"

Rocket's cheerful expression doesn't take long to switch to one of contemplation, complete with tapping finger.  'For Quill at least.  Other me would hate it.  I wonder if Groot is alive here?  A bit too awkward to randomly call him up, especially if I'm around.'

Harry stops, and sighs heavily, and runs his hand over his hair. He turns to you; he looks very much like your Harry, though much older, and more rugged looking. "I'm sorry you had to see that, Gwen. Not one of my finer moments." He offers his hand to you. "And before we've even been properly introduced. I'm Harry Osborn," he says, bowing, "... and I was once very good friends with your alternate-reality doppelganger."

Peter stares at you, flabbergasted, trying to decide whether or not he should be offended. Despite himself, he starts laughing. "I think that might take awhile, Rocket. I've got a lot of friends and I think most of them want to punch me in the mouth right now." He stands up and stretches out, cracks his neck and shakes his joints loose like a pre-fight boxer. "Most of them don't hit that hard, luckily."

"I'll pass on the space tour, though. I've been out there a few times and it never ended well for me."

In reply to Timebroker (msg # 40):

"I know who you are, Harry.  You're not that old."  Gwen says.  She drops off the ceiling, twists in the air to land on her feet, and then moves in to give Harry a hug.  "I know how Pete's death affected you, and I'm sure mine wasn't easier.  It's also like five in the morning, and you didn't have to punch him just because I didn't booty-call you.  It was late and I sorta dropped into the middle of a war.

My understanding is the two of you are on the same side in this thing, right?"

OOC:  The actual time may not be 5am.  It feels like five in the morning to Gwen since she's jet-lagged, and neither musicians nor spider-people tend to get up early.

She lets go of the hug.  Takes a look at his hands.  Are they green?  Do they have claws?  "Can the three of you get along for breakfast or do you want to go to Starkbucks downstairs?"

Surely the Stark headquarters must have their signature coffee chain in the lobby.

Harry returns the hug warmly. "Booty-ca--?" He laughs. "No wonder Pete didn't call me." In a softer tone, he adds, "That couldn't have been very long ago, for you. I'm sorry for your loss."



He holds you at arms-length to look at you. "Gwen, I... I don't think we're doing the right thing, here, but I don't think the way Captain America is going to fight this is any better. I'm not on Stark's side... I'm on Peter's."

"I never had a choice with the whole 'secret identity' thing, and... let's just say I don't trust Tony Stark's promises that SHIELD can keep those identities secure." He lets go of your shoulders and chuckles. "For obvious reasons."

"Pete and I are fine, Gwen," he says, though there's a haunted look in his eyes. He absentmindedly reaches up to his face, where you notice part of his "rugged" look comes from a number of faded burn scars around his right eye."We've had to forgive each other for a lot worse than this."

Harry catches himself, smiles, and abruptly changes the subject. "There's a Duncan's Donuts downstairs... but nobody's called it a 'Starkbucks' since the acquisition." He winks. "I made a killing on that deal. They only call it 'insider trading' when you're not actually an insider."

In reply to Timebroker (msg # 43):

"I think our worlds are kinda like a mirror.  At least for Spider stuff.  We don't have enough superheroes for whatever the rest of this is.

I'm on Peter's side too, and you should probably apologize.  Come back to the apartment, eat something.  That way I don't have to go downstairs looking like I haven't showered this decade.  If Pete and Em Jay didn't mind me inviting a talking rabbit over, inviting you for breakfast will be fine.  Pete can probably hear me from here with the door open, and he hasn't said no.  Maybe stash the weapons with POTTS or Rocket?


Once she sees Harry is self-concious about the scar, Gwen looks back to his hands.  You have powers without being transformed.  That's new."  Gwen spent weeks in Madripoor with Harry while running from that Black Ops team.  The mutation had up and down days, but never once did his left hand turn back until the radiation treatment drew it out and created Venom.

"I did tell SHIELD to keep my name secret.  But my friends get to know."

"Weapons? All I've got on me are a couple of pumpkins and the remote to the glider. Why don't you go get cleaned up while I smooth things over with Pete and MJ?" He leans in close to you and jokingly whispers, "She's packing better than I am. Have you ever seen a model with a purse that big?"

"And, besides, how could I possibly say 'no'? I've never had breakfast with a talking rabbit before."



"I guess that means that Harry 'booty call' Osborn is the Green Goblin in your timeline, too? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I didn't start taking the Goblin formula until after... my father died. The first time. He actually transforms into, like... a big green goblin?"

As an afterthought, lowering his voice so Peter and MJ can't hear him, "Please tell me that Norman didn't kill your friend, your Peter Parker."



"That's the thing, Gwen. I'm your friend, always, but it wasn't your friends who told me." He winces, and pinches the bridge of his nose. "Oh, goddammit, and this is exactly why."

"It's way worse than that.  Peter's death was all my fault."

Gwen gets really quiet as she walks back to the apartment.  She says the rest in front of everyone else.


"The Green Goblin was what Flash used to call you - he found your D&D stuff when you transferred and wanted someone to make fun of.  That's when I told Pete we had to be friends with you.  Norman never had anything to do with it, he never did anything to me worse than disapproving of your choice in girlfriend.

You spent some time with SHIELD and then you used the Goblin name to hunt down Spider-Woman.  It's Peter's Lizard-Serum under the hood.  Whatever they changed in it over those two years let you recognize me when I took the mask off.  I guess your powers are different here."

and then to lighten the mood a little, "Why pumpkins?  My Harry used D&D item names for most of his tech."

Gwen points to Rocket and says "Harry, meet Rocket - he's another refugee."

Then she looks at MJ.  "Is it ok if Harry comes back to clean up some of his mess?"

"D&D, huh? Huh." He gives Peter some side-eye. "It's all Norman's gear, just like it's his Goblin formula. I've been making adjustments... mostly to reduce the side effects... but I've kept the aesthetics."

"Whether I like it or not, the Green Goblin is my family's legacy. I can hide from it, or I can try to make it stand for something other than insanity and murder." He touches his face again. "Norman's only interested in the military applications of the formula, super-soldiers. I've been diversifying OsCorp into pharmaceuticals and peacetime biotechnologies"



Mary Jane smiles at you reassuringly. "Of course, dear. This isn't the first time these two idiots have gotten into a fight."

Peter gets as far as "Hey, it wasn't my--" before he withers under her baleful gaze.

Em Jay's looks are lethal.  Gwen is more terrified of her than a lot of the villains she's fought.

"Weirdly I miss that.  It's exactly what I'm afraid of about this war though.  Someone is going to do something that can't be fixed."

That thought triggered a lightbulb from something Harry said.  "Wait, did you say Norman died?  'The first time?'  And you talked to him last night?"

OOC: I'll wait for Rocket to contribute before I go any further.

Rocket sounds the cheeriest he's been sense getting to this timeline.  "You say that like it isn't normal.  I got plenty of friends that need a fractured jaw.  Thankfully, 'a while' seams to be what we got.  If you're busy, we could keep com lines open."  Rocket will pull out his earpiece and offer it to Peter.

Rocket mellows out a bit, and lifts an eyebrow.  "You were in space?  Really?  Been to Nowhere?  Nova Corp?  Asguard?  Halfworld?   ...scratch that last one.  Obviously not Halfworld."

Rocket's eyes light up as he glances back to the hallway, ears now upright.

_"Ex-Rabbit." Rocket mutters at that line, his ears drooping down a bit. 'Wait, are the Rabbits normally mute here? I'm missing something.'

Rocket will offer a bow.  "Refugee, former Rabbit, whatever other nonsense you likely overheard."  Unless prompted further, Rocket gives Harry a quick visual inspection (for his most likely key-keeping pouch), then move back to the chair he slept in.

Peter takes the earpiece, and slides it into his left ear. So unhygienic. "I've been to Knowhere, once. Never been to the Nova HQ." He makes a painfully inadequate attempt to look dignified standing on a pile of rubble in his underwear. "And I actually own an estate on Asgard, a gift from the Queen, that I haven't gotten to see for myself yet."

"Ex-Rabbit?" Harry puzzles it out for a second. "Like some kind of Rabbit organization? No, I meant the Earth animal. There's a couple different species, four-legged, only a few of them get to be about your size. Not real chatty outside of cartoons. I'm sorry, I thought you must have been related somehow."



He's wearing fairly typical human male jacket and trousers. You've already noticed the two probable grenades in his jacket pocket, and your best guess for where he's hiding the remote would be one of his front trouser pockets, like most humans keep their vehicle keys.

You're pretty sure he doesn't notice you casing him.

"Sorry.  Former Rabbit.  And I'll pass on the space tour.  I have enough trouble telling which direction is down here and I'm still adjusting to Asgard being non-mythical.

I thought this was the safest building around?  First I break in and now this?". Gwen gestures towards the mess.

When she went outside she wasn't wearing shoes, now with all the debris on the floor she has ballet flats, and it's unclear when they got there unless anyone was paying attention to her feet.  She makes a ball of webbing to get some of the dirt/debris to stick to - though her cleaning efforts aren't the most effective.

"Oh, uh, I figured you were gonna link that to your coms.  I only got the one, and Earth tech may need tinkering."  Unrelated, the earpiece was surprisingly clean, having been held in place with a tuft of fur near the ear's entrance.

"You have an Asguardian vacation home?  Looks like you need to give me the space tour, and I live in space."

Rocket tilts his head to the side, eyeing Harry suspiciously as he tries to figure out if that was an insult or not. "Earth animal?  Really?  And you don't know about the Black Rabbits?"  Rocket decides to register that the apology meant it was an unintended insult, and re-validates his current opinion of Wade.  Rocket shakes his head.  'Of course the Black Rabbits aren't a thing here.  I've only raided the planet a few times after all, and those went well.'  "Apology accepted, I suppose.  There's really a similar looking species that runs around on Earth with the same name?  That's... one crazy coincidence."

"Space Tour as in 'pulled out of warzone' tour.  Let my other self handle the mess."

"Speaking of comms, my phone doesn't have signal in this dimension.  And no offense, but I don't want one from SHIELD."  Gwen's phone, which she pulls out of her pocket, has an Oscorp logo, but is thinner and has less screen bezel than anything commercially available on Earth in 2006.

Harry asks to see the phone. "That's... something." He hands it back and looks at Peter. "That's the sort of thing that really..."

"Yeah," Peter says, in both summary and agreement.

"What they're trying to say is, Oscorp doesn't make phones. And nobody makes phones like that," Mary Jane clarifies. "At least not yet."

"I did say it was 2021 in my world.  Time seems to be weird between dimensions.

Maybe I'll just buy one to use while I'm here, unless Rocket can connect this one without wiping my data."

Rocket shrugs.  "I could hack into an intergalactic line if it had the range, but that might be hard for Earth-tech.  Emergency lines if we wanted to broadcast our hack to the people we we're hacking.  Haven't tried hacking Earth's comms yet."  Rocket adds a line through the Talus.  *We could ask our crutch to provide non-team coms if we need to, or just buy disposable Earth phones.*

((OOC: Or, depending on continuity translation, Rocket might have several disassembled short range ex-phone walkie-talkies on him he didn't pay a PP for.  EDIT is entirely OOC.))

Gwen's eyes dart to Rocket briefly and she says over the Tallus link: * I think disposable is the way to go.  No SHIELD tech.  Norman is already talking about things that are supposed to be confidential. *

Rocket pulls out quite a few pre-paid phones from several pockets, dumping them onto the table with various other mechanical bits and bobs intended to be spliced into the phones to boost range and bypass hardware security.

"Based on these though, I'm going to need some time to make them usable.  Unless someone here is familiar enough with the coms network to fill in my local knowledge gaps for a software bypass."

((Is Rocket 'suspicious' or 'surreal' now?  At least he didn't dump watches on the table. :3))

"Rocket - those are prepaid.  They... they already work.  You don't need to boost anything, they work for a month or 500 minutes of calls inside this continent.  Just throw it out if it gets compromised.  Anyone monitoring the network already knows who Pete, MJ, and Harry are."

Gwen grabs two of them, and hands one to MJ.  She's trying not to look at Pete too much while he's sitting around in his boxers.  "Can the three of you put your numbers in these?  Plus May in case there's an emergency.  And anyone else you think we might need to call that won't freak out when they hear from a ghost.

I already figured out my dad isn't here, and I don't want the details."

While they're dealing with the phones, Gwen starts the coffeemaker and fills every spot in the toaster with Pop-tarts if they're available, or bread if they aren't. "I'm going to get cleaned up real quick."  She says, and disappears into the guest bathroom.  She clearly means the quick part because before the toaster even finishes she comes back wearing her spider-woman suit with the hood back and no gloves or mask.  Her wet hair smells like MJ's shampoo.  It saves time when dressing/undressing is instant.

"So, is there a plan for today?  Nothing really exploded last night like I thought it would."  She puts everything she just toasted on her own plate along with an equal amount of fruit.  The coffee is for everyone, with Harry and MJ getting theirs the way they like it.  (probably)

"And this morning is a mess, but it saved me a trip to Oscorp.

There's one more thing.  Rocket said the guy at the front door was Bullseye... but I've never seen that guy before.  At home, Bullseye is Clint Barton and he's part of the WAR MACHINE mercenary company with Frank Castle.

I'm just saying, I may be asking questions because your world is kinda weird."

"Every word of what you just said makes my brain hurt," Peter admits. "Clint Barton's a hero, an Avenger. He goes by Hawkeye, and I guess he's got kinda the same schtick, but..." He frowns. "That's where the similiarities begin and end. He's not technically meta, so he's not a fugitive... but he's also not a complete nutjob like Bullseye."

"But... but... War Machine is a dude, one guy, Tony's best friend Rhodey. And Frank Castle doesn't work with anyone. He just... kills whoever he wants, whenever he wants, until one of us puts him in prison. And then he kills more people in prison, has his lawyer thank us, and then escapes to kill more people."

Harry puts a hand on Peter's shoulder. "Some day, Pete."

"Are any of the heroes from this world, my friends, not monsters in yours? The X-Men, the Fantastic Four? I mean... damn... does Logan talk in the movie theater?" He leans in to dramatically whisper, "Is Captain America a deep, deep cover Hydra agent?"

Rocket pulls one of the phones apart to pass the time, rewiring the pound key to access a new mini-circuit that amps the phones frequency range.  He presses that and a few extra numbers, and Rocket's earpiece beeps in Peter's ear.

"If these had more range, I would have accidentally called my other self.  That would be a pain to deal with."

"At least you have another self.  I have enemies I've never heard of here and I put out a beacon to them last night by telling Norman where I am."



"I don't know what X-men, Avengers, or HYDRA are, but there's Em Jay, Harry, and me.  We're not evil.  On the other hand, that 'complete nutjob' Bullseye you know is your bodyguard."  She makes air quotes here.

"Tony Stark runs the biggest coffee chain in the world, he's not involved in superhero stuff."  Gwen isn't completely sure about this anymore after noticing that Tony's gauntlet here looks the same as Castle's death-glove at home.  "Jesse Drew isn't evil, just misled by Cindy.  The Fantastic Four was a reality tv show following the Storm family.  Em Jay, Glory, and I used to watch it when we were kids... and actually that's a bad example.  Sue Storm is a complicated subject.

You know, maybe writing it out would help."

Gwen turns towards her backpack on the chair in the living room, and pulls it over with a webline.  She pulls a page out over her notebook (she intends to destroy this page afterwards) and starts writing with one of those pens that can click into a bunch of colors.

Gwen keeps talking (and occasionally eating) while she starts writing things down, changing colors to mark allies and enemies.

"Castle seems worse here - WAR MACHINE is brutal but they do most of their work in warzones - The only one I've seen Frank kill is Rhino, and weirdly he was protecting me at the time.  Jameson hired him to bring me in, but then he figured out who I was and... helped me stop the Kingpin instead.

Logan is that samurai I was talking about last night.  Cursed so he can never die?  His SHIELD file says he doesn't remember.  Doesn't really talk much at all, just brings out the murderhands.

Actually, you're the one that has Captain America as an enemy, she's a national hero in my world.  During World War 2, Samantha Wilson found a Nazi plan to bring in reserves from other dimensions.  She broke into their summit, teleported the whole mountain somewhere else, and destroyed the machine from the other side.  Spent 75 years finding her way back home, punching holes in dimensional walls with her shield.  Cap would have been a way better choice for this dimensional agent thing.
She's the only member of SHIELD that I really trust.

We have way fewer people with powers than you do, so probably most of your hero friends are just normal people.  Usually New York gets their Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Woman and the rest of the country gets SHIELD.

This is everyone I know of involved in superhuman stuff in this country."

She hands the page to Pete.

Peter and Harry take a fair minute passing Gwen's organization chart back and forth between them and cracking jokes-- they find her designations of "Murderhands" and "NOCLIP murderhands" particularly amusing.

They start to make jokes about Matt Murdock being the Kingpin... and then they stop. There's an uncomfortable silence, and Peter suddenly changes the subject: "Hey, uh, Gwen... who's this Cindy Moon? Is she somebody I--"

Harry and Peter both grab for their phones faster than humanly possible. Peter puts his hand over his mouth, while Harry would deny that the greenish cast to his features owes more to oppressive dread than his unique physiology.

Mary Jane puts her hand on Peter's back, as if to keep him upright in his chair. "Who?"

When Peter can't answer, Harry says, "There's been an incursion, right in Midtown. The demons themselves would be a handful, but it's who they belong to."

Peter finds his composure.

"N'Astirh."

Harry turns to Gwen. "I know this is... off-mission, but this is an 'all hands on deck', and having someone N'Astirh hasn't fought before could..." he falters. "Could make the difference. There aren't any mystics on your list, though. Do you have experience with... demons?"

Vampires were mystical, so maybe they hadn't gotten to Dracula yet.

"It depends who you ask."  Gwen says.  Venom had been called that a bunch.  She'd been called that when she first bonded with it.  Gwen didn't exactly agree.  She decides on something technically true that might reassure him.  "Murderhands thinks he was possessed by one when I fought him."  Just because Logan thinks Venom was an Oni doesn't mean it's true.  I mean, obviously it's not since it came from a lab.

"Anyway I doubt it's unrelated.  I'm staying with you until this is sorted out.  I can handle it.  You can explain on the way." She pulls up her hood and shoves a pop-tart in her mouth before pulling down a mask.  She puts her phone and the disposable phone in a pocket at the small of her back, trading them for a pair of gloves.  A pocket that's totally invisible when closed, though MJ and Rocket are the only ones present that might notice that.

The Goblin Glider lives up to its name, gliding silently into view while Spider-Man puts his mask on. Harry tells Gwen the intersection where the fighting is at its worst.

"The Thunderbolts are rolling up in force. Dad's big chance to show them off, tell the world we don't need Captain America. You can beat them there if you don't let this old man--" he slaps Spider-Man on the back-- "-- slow you down."

The glider soars overhead and Harry jumps up and grabs it and he's gone.

"WHEE-HEE-HEE-HEE-HEE-HEEEEEEEEE!"

Gwen is out the door before even checking if Rocket is following.  She stays with Pete on the way.  What's the point in getting there early?  Nobody knows her - and she's fought alternate versions of a bunch of these guys.  She can't even say she's Spider-woman since that's someone else.  Stick with the mission.  Keep Pete safe.

Harry is right, the three of them are old (to Gwen anyway.) This is weird.  Pete died junior year of high school, so seeing him looking like someone's dad is freaky.  Oh.  Should not actually mention that word when they have an empty nursery.  Should she ask about that?  Is web of life actually about Pete and MJ having a kid?

One thing just stuck out when they left.  "There's been an incursion"
If this were a TV show, a bunch of people showing up from another timeline would be an incursion.

Gwen is an incursion.

OOC: I think breakfast was back in the apartment, so there shouldn't be any bill to pay - even if they ordered Stark Tower room service, they probably just bill that to them.  Gwen would not have said all that stuff in public.

In a surreal moment, Gwen somersaults directly above the alley where her team first entered this timeline.

Times Square is in shambles. Any chance at an orderly evacuation was spoiled when some New Yorkers abandoned their cars in the middle of the road. There's a mob of demons swarming out of a massive black portal, causing more property damage than bodily harm... but the time for mayhem is bearing down on the crowd, and the fires the demons are leaving in their wake will do plenty of both.

Gwen does not know how to close the portal, but she does know how to block a faucet.  Even if she only blocked part of it that would help right?

She rushes towards the portal and pushes a van in front of it, intending to web it into place and block the exit.

Gwen -- the warehouse came under attack by what the Tallus describes as an international occult/paramilitary secret society, known as The Hand.  Like ninjas, who turn to dust when things unexpectedly don't go to plan! Frank is pretty sure they aren't part of Stark's forces, but we've no clue who they serve.    They came here searching for something - or someone - maybe even me, I mean the Sue of this world, based on their reaction.   If you've got any insights, suggestions, I'm listening! 

She added: I put them at bay, for the moment.   But supposedly their 'master' has been notified!

Spider-Man picks up Gwen's strategy immediately, webbing up the van to try to keep the portal contained, if not seal it entirely.

The demons don't seem like they're fast enough or skilled enough to be able to touch Spider-Man, but with numbers on their side, a few of them get some lucky hits in-- glances and scratches along his forearms, defensive wounds, mostly.

Rushing right in got Gwen and Peter surrounded by them.  Well this is bad, she thinks.

She's supposed to be protecting Peter... which is really the least she can do after what happened with him in her world.

Gwen seems to dodge all the attacks, even the ones coming from behind her.

Harry banks the Goblin Glider hard, sending it careening into the group of demonic warriors to Gwen's left while his body careens into the group on her right, cackling the entire time. Though he isn't wearing his mask, his face is strangely reminiscent of the photos Peter showed her-- in the midst of the chaos, he looks like he's having the time of his life.

The next several minutes pass in a blur of iron and blood-- Gwen might be relieved to note that it's easier than she expected to protect Peter and the innocent civilians when the demons are displaying an almost single-minded obsession with Harry. Or... she might not, as this alternate-reality version of her dear friend shows little regard for his own safety.

With the portal webbed-up, the demons still on the other side-- the demons in Limbo-- can do little more than growl helplessly and make disturbing threats. Without those reinforcements, the demons on this side of the portal are little match for the heroes, even at twelve-to-one odds. Ten-to-one. Nine-to-one. Seven. Six. Four. When fewer than a dozen of the foul hellspawn remain, the portal sizzles and winks out, and the last few stragglers wink out with them Gwen might note that it is they who seem relieved. Or... she might not, given the litany of other things that might be on her mind at that very moment.

As the trio of superheroes catch their breath, The Hulk plummets into the middle of the road, eager for a fight-- she turns this way and that, and sighs bitterly when she finds noone left to smash. Captain America and Luke Cage immediately set to work extinguishing fires, pulling civilians out of cars, and ther post-battle superhero clean-up; Peter and Harry acknowledge them without batting an eyelash, grateful for the assistance.


Moments later, Polaris floats into view with Tigro in tow. From opposite sides of the Square, on different motorcycles, Funnybone and The Unseen. And then Iron Man arrives, leading the dropship carrying the Thunderbolts team.
