Re: OOC: Status

By my tally, we still have a team leader, a Tallus-bearer, a sarcastic Spirit of Vengeance, a familiar foe-turned-friend, a Tigro, a swarm, and a kung-fu man. We're only down a talkative rabbit, a cyborg man, and a teenage-symbiote-wonder since we began, but I think we're all still in this? Just maybe not sure what to say or do to move to the next bit of action?

Sorry I've not been paying attention, my mom may have had a stroke. So I'm not doing well dealing with her.

Re: OOC: Status

Hi folks,
Sorry, my life has been interesting:   divorce, selling my family home, dad died.

I'm still not 'back with it', and I suspect I've well lost the plot here:  you'll have travelled on far without me.
So I'll thank you all for the time you allowed me to contribute, but bow out here.  I hope you all enjoy the game.

Still around - I don't mind pauses or slower moving games.  And very much understand why it happens.

You can mark me "present" for the roll call. Distracted by real life, as usual-- now I'm moving houses-- but available to post.

Uh, is that a thing?

My pinterest feed brings me a lot of vintage comic stuff; much of it funnier, more absurd, for being presented with little or no context.  ;)

Re: OOC: Status

I have some issues with the current system we're using for this kind of game since it requires oppposed rolls with decisions for everything.

I'm sure it's easier to deal with for in-person play.

I already hate the dice system they have where you want you to roll low on one die and high on the other two, to make a dumb 616 pun.  Basically what I read is if you roll this 1/6 chance a cool thing happens, and if it's this 1/36 roll it's extra cool.  And it's not gonna happen but this 1/216 roll will break your game because of how cool it is.

We only see one skill-tree/character sheet in the article and at the moment and there's some stuff on there that doesn't make sense/doesn't line up with what they said about archetypes.  And the ability/modifier setup seems like a mess at first glance.

I had hoped to test this new thing to try and switch but it's not looking likely.  I'll probably still read through the playtest rulebook when it releases.

?? With having read nothing else, this one has already lost me right here.   Let's not do this.

And I'll go ahead and plug my favorite rules-lite rpg:

The Window - http://www.mimgames.com/window/

Don't let the color scheme and the abstract, kind of unsettling graphics put you off (no idea why they went with that); it's a very non-gore oriented, very open ended & flexible system.

I'd happily kick MHR, or any D20 system aside for this, or something like it.

Among other virtues, it has a means for differentiating super powered individuals from normal level.

There’s always the truly Retro option of Classic MSH/FASERIP for less number-crunching and an authentically Marvel feel.

Aren't we about overdue for a Stan Lee cameo?   Really, this should be it.   Perhaps, marching toward us in Stilt man armor...

I feel like we've gotta save that one for something modern day.

Re: OOC: Status

I do feel like on the whole RPG design has improved a lot over time so I'm hesitant to go back to something very old like FASERIP.

I do feel like the system we're using is fun for in-person games - but the opposed rolls for everything makes it difficult to DM and not great to do asyncronously.  Plus the fact that the game got relatively little support after release (it was cancelled within a year) makes it hard to run.  I had hoped a new Marvel RPG would be a good place to move to but it's not looking that way.

I am intrigued by the Window but have never played it.  It would not have occurred to me that it was a good system for superheroes.

For the near future, I'm planning on continuing to use MHR but am open to suggestions for a replacement.

Re: OOC: Status

Yeah, there's a section in Window for running superhero.    Not played it that way, but in theory it sounds pretty good.  But a different feel from this.

I joined a game that was going to use 'FASERIP,' though it never got off the ground.

One problem with it, is that it's really cut & dried where powers are concerned. Like there's no way to 'stunt' for any nuance, or do anything different.  Which is kind of a drag.    Sue is a character who didn't come into her own (in the comics) till she began to use her power creatively and imaginatively. And even this system makes that sometimes tough.

I wouldn't want to remove MHR, anyway, if it was bad for other players.   I mean, surely it was a selling feature for some?
