Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

Taya:
Taya's actually assuming poisoning...darts hit person, then person goes Stop, sounds like poison darts to her...but that's how a cheating gambler would do it.

I immediately assumed caster as well, but then I've had a Half-Orc die multiple times to Hold Person.

Does a hold person spell hold a person rigid in this game, and does paralysation poison do the same or instead as I would more likely expect cause a person's muscles to go slack so they crumple to the ground?

It might be one way to tell the 2 apart.  A stop in place poison seem more unlikely to me, but then again this is fantasy and I'm new to this DM's flavour so it could be either way.  Anyone know or are the characters too new to adventuring to know themselves?

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

A lot of these kinds of questions are things that players will have to find out as the game progresses.  As 1st level characters most of you have very little knowledge of these things until you actually experience them.  There is no Google or Youtube to research stuff, it's all word of mouth etc or direct experience.  I would think that the only people who would have knowledge of a Hold Person spell are the clerics and even they may never have seen it cast before.  And probably only Assassins would know the details of different poisons.

On a similar note, I was asked by one of the spell casters to add the length of time spells are in effect, to the Combat Summary however that is knowledge that in most cases, only the spell caster would have.  So the spell casters in the party will need to remember how long their spells are in effect for.  They are free to communicate that info (IC) but I am not going to provide it to everyone every combat round.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I was coming from that angle that as a cleric, with years of training at a temple, Inaya had probably heard of the spell, if not seen it cast.

Venom/poison would more likely be a slower stiffening, as it works its way through the blood, than an abrupt & instant freezing in place.     That's how I figure my character was making the distinction.

In reply to Inaya Jasedd (msg # 977):

Just for clarity, I think you are right. When I read the description, I almost had Taya start looking for a caster.

But Taya would not make that interpretation, she assumes poison because she saw the darts hit then saw a reaction, and in her world/experience, poison makes sense.

Treakle:
Falco seems slow and ineffective in battle today.  Memories of the swamp affect his aim.

Treakle rolled 10,14,6,11 using d20+4,2d4+6,d20+4,2d4+6.  Two attacks for round 2.

Treakle rolled 1 using 1d6.  Initiative.

I'm no doctor but my diagnosis is that someone is starting to juggle too many characters Treakle, no Falco, no Treakle.  No what?  No who? :o).
That aside I hate it when your damage throws are higher than your to hit throws, but only when your to hit throws aren't high enough to hit what you want to hit.  Such a waste.

Brain is dead.  Sorry. Will adjust.

I get real busy in the early morning, and I update most of my games between 4 and 6AM.  Sometime, I forget who I am.

Nothing to be sorry about in my book, I've done it myself more times than I care to admit.

Epilo, as a druid, saw the characters freeze in place- hold person- instead of slump into a heap- poison. I am still under the belief it was a spell.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

Apologies to Jori, the PHB says Monks attack on the Thieves table, the DMG says they attack on the Cleric table.  I have ruled that Jori is correct, they attack on the Cleric table.  For future reference, if something like this comes up again feel free to advise me however Dragon Magazine articles are optional not Canon in this world.

I totally got where you coming from, with that; I would've played it differently too, if I wasn't playing a cleric.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I posted a move and an attack last round, but appear to have only moved. Can I just use that attack this round, or do I have to post another movement before that attack becomes possible/effective?

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

Move through the jungle is only half speed so you were unable to make an attack last round.  Players need to state their actions and their targets each round and then roll dice to determine the results. If dice rolls are not required for any reason they are discarded, you cannot 'save your rolls' for the next round.  For example, most players roll to hit and damage and the damage rolls are discarded if the player misses.  As circumstances change each round dice rolls are also made each round.  If players do not specify their targets I cannot know how to award X Points, 'attacking the nearest lizardman' is not good enough when I have gone to the effort of updating the map each turn, the same applies when casting area of effect spells, I need to know where the spell is centred to determine who is inside the area of effect.  Initiative rolls are also required every round, without an Initiative roll, players will go last.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

Do you award XP individually Hand?  It seems like it by your example below.  If/when we overcome these lizard men, are XP then dished out according to who damaged whom?

If you search for "The World of Greyhawk" FB group, I don't think there will be too many groups with that name, at least I hope not :)

I'm trying to find my token on the Group 1 Map, but I can't.  And the lizardmen I was trying to attack appear that they are under trees now.  I thought they were asleep and north of the trees.

once I can find my guy then I'll let you know which Lizardman to attach.  I just can't read the map.  Thanks

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I have uploaded a tweaked map to the main game map so you can see who is caught inside the second Entangle spell area which includes Korkas and Aleks who both need to make saving throws.

The location of the entangle spell is a bone of contention which is why I have repeatedly asked players to be more accurate/specific in describing your movements and targets when writing your posts.  Using 'left' or 'right' or using vague terms like 'the nearest' will result in this type of confusion.  Please use North, South, East & West and make sure you refresh your browser so that you are looking at the current version of the map.  I have no control over what you see at your end, all I can do is upload my maps to the RPoL site.  I have created the FB group to also upload maps beyond that I don't know what else to do other than write this off as part of the confusion/fog of war.

I am not perfect, I make mistakes but I will not put up with players who want to take pot shots at me in PM's.  This is a game, I don't get paid for the time and effort I put in and if you can't handle things not going exactly your way every time then maybe play-by-post is not for you.  I am here for fun, if anyone is not having fun then let me know and I will remove you from the game but don't expect everything to be sunshine and lollipops all the time.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

In reply to Hand of Destiny (msg # 996):

I use this site: https://imgbb.com/, as do some other DMs on RPOL, to upload maps.

It's free, and you can upload a fair number of images, and then link to them from an RPOL post.

In some my other games, I map on graph paper, scan, crop in photoshop, upload to ImgBB, and then link from RPOL. You could simply create a Map thread and change the link as needed.

Works for me, not sure if you have the time!
