In reply to Jori Lenwa (msg # 925):

Hmmm, I got it when it was group 9. Not now, now it is the old map, not the updated lizardman map, how do you refresh it? I tried the refresh button, but that don't work. :-(

Nope, I no longer have the map with the lizardmen on it :-(

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I had the same problem Osric.  I copied the map you're currently looking at and pasted it into a PM back to HOD.  Before I sent the PM I clicked on the Link back to this game as it shows up below and the updated map appeared.

I shut my computer down overnight, and this morning the updated map seems to be appearing now, though that might be because a fix was found in the meantime.  The link below ought to give you the correct map as it stands now if you still can't see it.

Generally, a CTRL F5 will update your map.

It wasn't supposed to be a Chart

I just used 'pipesignes' "|" to designate the 'squares' on the map, and Previewed, and fixed the preview.

Thank you.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

We have a new player taking over Aleksandyr.

Waiting on Salochin to post for last round and this round, also waiting on more detail from Korkas including Initiative, To Hit and who he is attacking.  And Dimitri has not posted yet so I'll give it another day or so for the next update.

Should have a post up shortly.

Spent the weekend picking up a new pupper for the wife and dealing with a nine week old terror.

Basset Hound / American Bulldog mix.

She's got all the visible characteristics of the Hound and the social bent of the bulldog.  She's a hell of a handful to say the least.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

Hey gang, just wanted to clarify something regarding the rate of fire for bows.  The Players Handbook has 2 per round, I seem to remember in previous games that they fired once in the first round and twice a round thereafter.  I don't remember if this was a custom rule from my previous games or if there is some mention of this somewhere in the rules.  Does this ring a bell with anyone?  If there is nothing in the rules about that then I am happy to settle on 2 shots per round.

That means Menion has a couple more shots with his bow :)

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

2 shots per round is the standard for bows in AD&D.

Monster Manual elves could move-shoot-move, so 1 shot but full movement, and I believe 2E had something like move up to half movement and get one arrow off for any character.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

2 shots per round.  It is the same on both page 38 and 124 in the PHB, though one chart is probably just a copy of the other.  The DMG is pretty silent on it otherwise.

This isn't canon but it's backed up by Lenard Lakofka in Dragon #45 when he introduces the Archer NPC mentioning they can fire 3 arrows per round as opposed to 2 once they get to 7th level.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I can't look at the moment, but I feel like there's something about a surprise segment only getting one shot. That would explain your "1 First round," memory.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I checked that Taya, it was news to me, but I found this interesting titbit

DMG page 62:
each segment of surprise (is) as if the segment were an entire round

Even if distance prevents striking with weapons, the discharge of arrows, bolts or hand-hurled weapons is permissible at three times the normal rate providing the weapon/missiles are ready, otherwise at normal rates for rounds. Once surprise segments are over, melee proceeds normally on a round-by-round basis.

Three times the normal rate, if the weapon was ready would be more like 6 arrows per segment for surprise (for arrows) but I think they're rather clumsily trying to say 3 arrows as opposed to 2 arrows per segment?

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

I would think that proficiency should play a part in that.  Let's face it, a novice with a bow is going to take a lot longer to aim it.

Having taught my children, I can say that is not true. The novice aims just as quickly...but nowhere near as well.

I picture the training scene in Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Any one can swing a sword, and may hit bigger than me, but my proficiencies will, in the end, see me hit more often and with more overall damage.

It's always been 2 shots/round for bows in 1E, I haven't seen anything to the contrary.

Re: World of Grehawk: General Discussion

Only thing that changes it is specialization ala a specialist who begins the round with arrow nocked, shaft drawn and target in sight is entitled to loose that arrow before any initiative check.  Or so the UA says in their spec rules.

Then on top of that at 7th level a bow specialist can fire 3 times a round.  At 13th level they can fire 4 times a round.

So a 13th level spec with bow drawn and arrow nocked ready could theoretically fire off 5 arrows.  1 before the round starts and 4 during.  Of course a Haste spell would then allow them to fire off 1 before the round and 8 in the round for a grand total of 9 arrows for spikey goodness.
