We're safe, but the characters don't know that. Just met, feeling each other out. That the other two would be upset for him revealing a secret that wasn't his to share makes a lot of sense, especially since the secret was hidden identities of people who have helped in the building of a rebellion. That's the kind of thing that could cause many deaths if the wrong people heard it.
