Act V

On your way back to King's Landing, you all began to piece together the collective visions you all had and determined that the history as you know it is not the truth…

The sages were correct that Tarrian was the first Red Knight, and that her band of heroes raged a war of survival against the spiders long ago. But the sages were wrong about the Sa Karans. The Sa Karans were not reclusive ancestors of the humans--they were very race of Masters you are fighting right now!

The Sa Karans invaded Tarth thousands of years ago and tried to make it their own. They were the ones who captured the primitive elves, dwarves, and orcs…and genetically created humans for their slaves. They were the ones that created the Scourge, the time when their spider hordes threatened to wipe out the races. But, Solace helped the humans and Tarrian, the first Red Knight, to defeat the Sa Karans and their spiders…or so it was thought.

Unfortunately, Tarrian and her team did not wipe out all of the Sa Karans. A few Sa Karans must have escaped through the very portal that you just found. Now, after so many years, they are back to try to rule Tarth once again.

You need to finish what Tarrian couldn't. You need to end this invasive creatures once and for all. With the Seven gone, you are now Tarth's only hope…and if you aren't too late, you are the Queen's only hope for survival.

Everyone please roll a D20. (This is mainly to see if you all still know how to use the die roller?  :)

I'm going to put all the GM dialogue in Blue font.

Please put all of your non-game text (i.e. your character's dialogue and thoughts) in Orange to make it easier to identify.

Testing if I can write orange text. Woot! Ezra actually is a historian ... so I reckon this will rock his world!
Ezra trudges along, hearing the visions of his compatriots. It's almost too much to take in at once.

The Sa Karan were the source of the scourge that Tarrian and her band of heroes barely saved the races of Tarth from! It was fantastic, and oddly enough answered some of the more esoteric questions that remained surrounding that era.

There will be a reckoning with Sa Karan ... and we will do what's necessary to end this chapter in Tarth's history.

Now let's see if I can still roll a dice.

16:47, Today: Ezra rolled 15 using 1d20, rerolling max, rerolling all ones with rolls of 15. Test die roll, d20 reroll max recording each die rolled in yellow.

Daryl, thanks for being the first one to post! I think you have the orange font backwards. The story text should be in orange...everything else, dice rolls, questions out of character, should be normal. Basically, I want an easy way to see the role playing bits. BTW, maybe orange is too bright...I'm good with you picking a different color.

Okay, I reversed the orange/black text in my previous post. Now Paul's post seems non-sensical ... muhahahahAHAHAHAHAHA (evil laugh).

I kinda remember that rpol dice roller is easier to use if you "type" in the dice (in the manual box) ... so I'm going to try that a few times and see if I can remember how to do it.

10:40, Today: Ezra rolled 14,2,-1,3 using 1d12-2,1d6-2,1d12-2,1d6-2, rerolling max.  2x Bolt with -2 MAP.

<Forgot to specify "record each die" ... try again>

10:41, Today: Ezra rolled -3,6,-3,-2,-2,0 using 1d12-4,1d6-4,1d12-4,1d6-4,1d12-4,1d6-4, rerolling max with rolls of 1,(6+4)10,1,2,2,4.  Another Test, 3x Bolt with -4 MAP.

Wow ... that was a surprisingly bad roll. Good thing I got it out of the way with a test roll! :-).

Okay, I think I'm 100% ready to blow up some spiders!

Act V

Hey guys! :) Be gentle to me, I feel like I have complete amnesia from my old Nute days, so if I say/do something that makes no sense, call it out :)

Nute walks in the back of the group, as always, his head low, catching snippets of conversation as everyone grapples with the overwhelming weight of recent revelations. A pit forms in Nute's stomach.

The best heroes of the land fought these enemies in the past, and they failed. Now, the only thing standing between the world and Sa Karan dominion is...us?!

Nute chances a dejected glance at his fellow party members. Somehow, impossibly, the dread inside subsides. Nute almost laughs to himself at the sheer audacity of it all. An incredulous smile flirts across his face.

A street urchin, two old loons, a lumberjack, and beautiful (dammit Nute, focus) half-elf walk into a bar. And the punchline is, what, they save the world??

As absurd as it was, Nute could believe it. Even more, he wanted to believe it. This group of outcasts has overcome impossible odds together. Nute had saved them, and they him. They could beat this. They would beat this.

Nute wondered if this was what having a family felt like. He liked it.

Okay, dice rolling time! Am I just supposed to copy the output from the dice roller here? Because that's what I'm gonna do :)

13:46, Today: Nute rolled 19 using 1d20, rerolling max.

Ah yeah, these dice be calibrated now, thanks Ezra!! :)

Does everyone like the orange? If you want something different, just let me know. But, I do like how it is easy to see the story text...

I'm glad I could be of service by attracting all the bad luck! :-)

I don't mind the orange.

Ezra is lost in thought for a moment. "There is a village outside the capital on the cliffs above the sea. It is said that the entire village was once a single villa for a Sa Karan magistrate. Within the main square is an ancient statue of that magister. He stands akimbo with a scroll in hand." Ezra pauses for a moment. "The name that has been passed down through ages is 'In service of Man', the name of the square is 'Service Square' ... but a direct translation is 'To Serve Man'. You can still make out some of the words on the scroll ... 'Chop 2 dozen onions, finely' ...".

See if anyone can spot the reference (going old school with this one).

10:52, Today: Buzzby rolled 4 using 1d20 ((4)).

Buzzby puffs thoughtfully on his pipe. He squints through the self generated haze at his party.   This is all very confusing but really doesn't change anything.  As long as I have good weed to smoke, a good meal and a cute doxie to eye ol' Buzzby will be just fine.  Getting the rest of this group through may be a struggle though, Buzzby muses noticing a rather unsettling dreamy gaze by Nute.  "Oh Sol! Now what?  Is 'e going through the change?  Need ta keep 'im away from Kassi

"Wandering these roads with all of you makes Boris very happy!" And he begins to give each of the party a bear hug!

19:46, Today: Boris rolled 19 using 1d20.  I would say that is a success!

When you make it back to King's Landing, the underground inhabitants are elated to see you and you are taken straight to Lord Herrick's tent. The Old Wolf, Lord Herrick, Aden the Scribe, and Sarah the Sun Priest are all present. They all gasp in awe as they see the sword and breastplate of Tarrian, worn by Ezra and Nute respectively.

Lord Herrick makes eye contact with each one of you, "Looking forward to hear what happened. Looks fortune may be upon us."

"Greetings Lord Herrik, Aden and Sarah." Ezra speaks, making eye contact with each in turn.

"Darkness gathers, but it is always darkest before the dawn." Ezra begins, "We have learned the face of our enemy. The Sa Karan are the orchestrators of our misfortunes. It was they who blackened the skies, it was they who drove us from the surface. It was they who have unleashed abomination after abomination up us."

"We found the gate. The same Gate by which they fled when the Red Knight Tarrian discovered their perfidiousness long ago. The same Gate that they used to re-enter our fair realm. The same Gate to the realm where they imprisoned the Seven and took the Princess."

"I feel the breaking of the storm is upon us. We have plans to make." Ezra finishes.

Sorry about the delayed reply. I would have replied sooner, but I'm wracking my memory here. The problem is that I read a few spoilers years ago by accident ... and I don't 100% remember what my character knows and what I know.

Lord Herrick replies, "We will have time to rewrite our history books based on what you found, but it is time to make our own history and rid these invaders from our lands. We can no longer hide and must act now, even more so if there is a chance to find and save the Princess. We'd best send your bird on to the Orcs. Take some time to rest and we will regroup in the morning."

Aden adjusts his glasses and is furiously scribbling into his notebook. Sarah is still visibly shaken at the site of the artifacts of Solace that you have recovered.

As you recall, you were to send the bird back to the Orcs to let them know when you are ready to make a stand and take back King's Port. You can let one of Herrick's runners take the bird to the surface, which is two hours by the shortest route. After being back in the arms of King's Landing, you realize how weary you are and looking forward to a much needed rest.

The Sun Priests will heal any wounds you encountered in the last battle. It will be important to be fresh for what is to come.

As part of your rest, I'd like each of you to have an interlude (pg 130 in the Adventure book). I drew a card for each of you and you can pick from Downtime, Backstory, or Trek.

Ezra - Spades
Buzzby - Diamonds
Boris - Clubs
Kassidy - Joker
Nute - Clubs

Ben's a wild card too now, does he get an interlude?

I'm going with a moment of quiet contemplation for my interlude ... because that seems like Ezra's style.

As each goes their own ways, Ezra finds himself alone. Sensing his master is safe here even Ben the Mastiff wanders off. It's been awhile since the old man has had time to gather his thoughts.

Hitching his backpack further up, he thinks to himself I've been meaning to reorganize this ... thing.

Finding a quiet place not too far from the bustle of the camp, Ezra sits down and begins removing items from the pack. At first it's items he uses with frequency. Torches, flint and steel, rations, a small book of prayers are laid out next to his bedroll.

Then as he digs deeper into the pack, less frequented items. A locket that contains a single lock of hair and a portrait of his deceased wife. He takes a moment with the portrait. It shows a young woman, strong of jaw with a fierce demeanor. There is a striking resemblance to Kassidy. She sat for this just before she joined the expedition against the Orc raiders that troubled that village down south ... Abbot's Downs. It should have been you here now, this was always your calling. I am but a poor substitute.

"Needs must when the devil drives." He shuts the locket and places it to the side.

Then out comes a small wooden flute. To be honest, he couldn't play more than a simple tune on it. Boris had carved it after he'd mentioned he liked flute music and he couldn't bear to toss a gift from the big man.

Next came a small library of papers and scrolls.

Letters from Kassidy's mother (or father? depends on what Kassidy's backstory is) detailing her early life amongst the elves. A ribbon that once graced her hair is tucked between the sheets.

Next came correspondences with a strange hedge wizard named Buzzby. Ezra struck up a conversation during a chance encounter at a herbalist. It had blossomed into a long running correspondence. He was looking for weeds of an entirely different sort than I. Ezra shook his head.

Further down, the papers became more esoteric. At the bottom, a single scroll case, sealed in wax to prevent damage.

He holds the scroll case, looking at all of his belongings and thinking on each of his companions. The Heir of Tarrian The name was a bit conceited, he knew. Tarrian had no known heirs ... it was accepted wisdom that her lines had long since died out.

Her sense of adventure passed down to each of her children and adventure tends to grants a different sort of posterity than progeny.

Pushing the scroll back into his pack, he begins to repack the belongings so they won't shift around anymore.

Hoping I get to write one for Ben too! He might steal food from Lord Herrik, fight some cats, get his ears scratched by some kids, save Nute's life, you know ... standard dog stuff.

In reply to ohoh7 (msg # 18):

All along the trail Kassidy had a groggy feeling as though she had been asleep for many years. The dreams, they haunted her, and she wasn't completely clear of them. Visions of Brother Amos screaming, his church burned to the ground, kept repeating. Kassidy knew that this was a merging of her current fears and the horrific scene from her childhood as her family was slaughtered in front of her eyes. The nightmare played in loop, mixed with scenes of hunting squirrels... so many squirrels.

Now she was back trudging along with the smelly men, the lumbering dog, and the short... whatever. It was enough to make her want to find a hole and go back to her self-preservation. But as the journey went on, she began to feel used to it again. Even the 'whatever' made her grin inside from time to time with one of his life's observations.

By the time they were standing before Lord Herrick, Kassidy was psyched up and ready to take on the world. She was expecting planning, strategy, maybe a bit of a tussle... anything to draw her blades and drink in the spattered blood of her enemy once again. Her own blood pumping and...

"Wait, what? Resting?" she thought to herself. "After all of this and we're... resting? BAH!"
Without saying a word to any of the others, she stormed off to find the nearest watering hole, something small where she wouldn't have to make kind to a pestering barmaid or local citizens who needed to "chat". A shiver went up her spine.

Skulking through the alleyways, Kassidy quickly made for the sleazier, darker side of town and found a one room tavern that looked like sweat and tears had constructed it. The sign outside was unreadable and swung from only one of the two intended hinges from a termite ridden post that had been plunged into the dirt as an after-thought.

"Perfect"

Once inside Kassidy made out a few larger men laughing boisterously at the make-shift bar and silently made her way towards them. Realizing she didn't have any coin on her, she zeroed in on the half-drunk patrons. As though reading her mind, they looked up and made eyes at her.

"What'chu lookin' at Missy? Needing ol' Jack 'ere to keep you company?" one of them spat out, with a slight glint in his hopeful eye.

"Something like that," Kassidy replied, pulling one of her knives out in the process. "I'm in NEED of some coinage to sample the local brew. Ever heard of Five Finger Fillet?"

Easy pickings.

I started writing for Club but then realized that most of her back story is in another town or somewhat resolved, so it evolved into Kassidy's version of quiet interlude.

Hearts -> A story of Bennies greatest love ... lost, at home or ... Found!

Bennie spotted his true love on the walk back to the encampment. Once, long ago, he'd been united with them ... but he'd been young. Impatient. And they had been taken away quickly, tucked away out of sight.

They were right there now ... just sticking out of the pack. Taunting him. But if he made his move too early, they'd be pushed back down and Bennie's heart would break. He knew it would. He had to have them. He had to play it cool.

He waited. Patient. Like a wolf stalking it's prey. This time, they would be his.

Then it happened, rummaging through his pack to get his pipe out, Buzzby knocked them to the ground. This was the moment! Now was the time!

Like a flash Benny was on them, scooping them up in his mouth he was already running for safety.

"Hey! That's my spare sock!", Buzzby called after him. But it was too late, Bennie was gone.

Hiding behind a tent, the big mastiff finally was content. Nom Nom Nom...

I currently have 6 spare socks that don't match any other socks, because my stupid dog keeps stealing a single sock!
