In reply to Nerull (msg # 6):
The ship's internal design is colloquially referred to as a "tail sitter" in that the ship's decks are laid out perpendicular to the direction of travel. The ship has 6 decks allocated to Avionics, the Bridge, Crew, Medical and Maintenance; 5 Decks allocated to Engineering, including the Reserve Bridge, Engineering Crew, Jump, Power and Manoeuvre Drives. There is a deck allocated to in-system fuel, and 6 cargo decks that are double-height (6m). One of these decks is usually allocated as a flight deck.
The ship is equipped with a Standard Class Launch for general use and 2 Cargo Lifters, each capable of carrying up to 100dtons of cargo in a single cargo container (but they normally carry up to 28 standard 3dton small shipping containers).
In addition, the ship carries a number of medium duty Container Handlers and Worker Bees. A few variants of this class are equipped with a single cargo hold, some 60m in height, as well as the flight deck. These normally operate on in-system routes as bulk carriers, and some have been re-fitted to remove their Jump Drives.
General Description
The Rivington Class Medium Transport is a general purpose 5,000 dton commercial cargo vessel, capable of 2G acceleration and Jump-4. It was specifically intended to use in less dense Sectors, for the carriage of a wide range of materials, and to service smaller colonies.
The compartmented cargo holds are designed to be used for cargo, or for fuel, and the vessel has only permanent fuel tanks for in-system manoeuvring. Fitting out the cargo bays for fuel storage is, however, a non-trivial process involving the fitting of a pressure- proof bonded liner. This liner is relatively inexpensive to fit, but the hull surface becomes slippery and the liner reduces the effectiveness of magnetic clamping and deck plate induction power transfer. As a result, once a shipping route has been established, ships tend to keep the same bays allocated to fuel for extended periods.

ARMAMENT
The ship is normally fitted with 6 x triple beam laser turrets and 8 x smaller Point Defence Turrets, but there is substantial variation depending on the security threat. Some versions of the Rivington have been outfitted as "Q" Ships carrying up to 3 x Dragon Class System Defence Boats.
