Game Discussion

As you may have noticed, I have posted up a small starting post for a potential game idea.  Please let me know what type of game you like, I may not be able to always play to your particular style, but I will try and make the game enjoyable for everyone.  Although Soulbound, by it's very character creation is designed to be quite "pick up and play" you may have noticed I prefer to go a little deeper than that.  With Soulbound, the reason is very simple.. You are already heroes!

THis means you have already done "stuff". In turn the usual a "villain threatens my family" probably doesn't hold quite the same weight that it might have done if you were just starting out.  You may have fought in armies before, but now, you are the ones expected to lead.

So instead of asking who you were, I try to ask questions about who you are.  Your triumphs, your failures, your allies, and your enemies.  With regards to allies, I encourage you to think beyond your Binding, we know the other players are your allies. Though you may disagree and squabble, you are all ultimately in it together.

So with all this in mind, where do you want me to go with this first outing? Investigation/Politics; dungeon delving; mad combat. Let me know here!

Any game play is fine with me but with combat it must be used to push to game forward not be there because combat is expected...... Also a lot of character interplay and interaction with the npcs we encounter

I would absolutely agree with that. Even though it feels like a lot of the crunch of this system leans towards combat, I would much rather have fighting with a place in the narrative rather than just bloodshed for its own sake.

Obviously I can only speak for the characters we have at this time, but seeing as the Kurnoth Hunter and Black Ark Corsair are both hunters of sorts (one in a rather literal sense and the other with a predilection for slaying and capturing monsters) I would assume that at least our first posting would be something that reflected that expertise. That doesn't mean I'm expecting some kind of combat-heavy scenario, just that I'd think if we're being sent to investigate something it's more likely to be a problem that appears to need a hands-on solution rather than one that calls for a delicate diplomatic touch.

Of course with things being what they are, who's to say that our first assignment won't be something that leaves us completely out of our element...

To be honest, a Hunter and a Corsair I can weave just on the basis of you being a hunter and a corsair. But it's great to know more!

Perhaps the Kurnoth Hunter is there because of an agreement with his queen and the droomfolk on a quoter of trees allowed to be cut down rather than for his hunting skills at the beginning of the adventure

Just throwing some ideas about the game.

Personally, I do not crave a game with awful lot of worlds spanning travel. I would like to have some area, that we try to develop/cure/win/investigate/work out of. I am all in for trips to somewhere (someplace?) else, from one realm to another, but it should have meaning. Maybe a trip to Ghyran (if not there already) can give us some foodstuff when in need. Perhaps a visit to Shyish will also give us a crucial piece of information so that we may banish or lay to rest some specific spirit, things like that.

I do not have a specific realm I would like to explore, they all seem interesting to me. If GM is enthusiastic about the realm used, it will probably make for a better game.

I third the notion that combat should serve a purpose, and I like games where goals can be achieved by multiple means. Sometimes combat is necessary, but at least sometimes there should also be the possibility to avoid fighting, should the binding for towards such a way.
