Re: Location: Arlington Antiques

Pearl didn't smell anyone else either, so she started to tell George so before she flinched at Dalion's sudden scream. "Hey, stop, I got you," she said to the injured man instead, before hoisting him into a fireman's carry and quickly making her way away from the perilous wreckage.

Re: Location: Arlington Antiques

If there was anyone else in the rubble, they were likely unconscious and unable to respond, Ryan realized. The firefighters hadn't taken notice of their ad-hoc rescue effort, but the groaning of the building getting ready to collapse further might draw their attention.
"Let's set this stuff down carefully, then get clear," he said.

As the rubble is set aside and the group emerges from the building, someone shouts, "HEY! Over there!"

Solstice followed Pearl, getting his best healing spells ready. "Set him down, I'll keep him comfortable until the EMTs get here." He assured, hoping he would be able to get through the worst of the damage.

Watching Dalion run away, George shakes his shaggy head. That guys weird..even for this city. Somethings going strange in the poor guys head.

Easing down the shelving, trying not to let may more break, in case somethings salvageable, he dusts off his paws, and follows the people helping the victim. That firemans lift that little woman just performed was bloody impressive. And that was some nice magic team work. Have those guys worked together before?

"Right," Pearl replied to Solstice. Not that she knew him or his capabilities at all, but he sounded confident in himself, whereas Pearl's medical knowledge was limited to treating cooking hazards like cuts and burns. She looked around to make sure they were well clear of, say, the falling radius of a collapsing building, then set the injured man down in the nearest spot where he wouldn't be lying on something uncomfortable.

After that, she straightened back up and looked around. "Whew. Good work, everyone." It was nice to know that strangers could come together and accomplish something like that.

Watching the small group look after the injured man, George feels a spark of pride when the strong small woman speaks.

"..uh...yeah. Thats was close...uh.." Slightly unsure of what to do now, he growls at Pearl. "That was an impressive lift. Your so tiny."

"Whoa! People, please! Stay back from the building!" the young officer sweeps back past the group once more, seemingly unaware that you'd just rescued someone from the rubble.
   "No good deed," Ryan mutters.

"goes unpunished" Dalion says compulsively.

Dalion reaches out to catch everyone except Solstice in a group hug since he did not want to interrupt Solstice healing the wounded man. Something that Solstice might appreciate since the jog and the straining efforts of lifting the rubble did nothing but increase the potency of the bodily odors typical of a person of Dalion's lifestyle.

Re: Location: Arlington Antiques

Solstice worked quickly. There was definite internal bleeding along the man's abdomen, several cracked and broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken arm. All the injuries seen in getting crushed. He used his healing magic to heal the bleeding, the most pressing matter, first. He said nothing, he was focused and as serious as anyone had ever seen him

Re: Location: Arlington Antiques

While Solstice was able to stop the bleeding, he found that the magic just wasn't flowing as it should. Flustered, he took a moment to draw back into himself and try to refocus, but it was no use. His nerves were jangled and thrumming. It was just too much. There were so many people and this place was so new... and now, this? An emergency before he had even had much time to settle? His wings twitched in frustration as he tried, again to draw upon the magic.

Dr. Orrus laid a calming hand upon Solstice's shoulder, "It's okay. Look. The EMTs are coming. You stopped the bleeding, which was the most important thing. They'll be able to take care of the rest. You did well."

Sure enough, someone had finally spotted the rescuers and their injured, and now EMTs were arriving. A burly, dark-skinned paramedic knelt beside the man. His voice was polite but clipped with urgency as he said, "Thank you all for your help, but we've got him, now." And, with that, all attention was turned to the injured, the others forgotten unless they got in the way of the EMTs doing their job.

Solstice just nodded numbly. He hadn't failed this badly since he was back in training. He felt stupid, and above all, useless. He got up and moved away from the man to get out of the way and let the EMTs do their jobs.

Re: Location: Arlington Antiques

The sudden group hug from the yelling man, probably better called the homeless man from the smell, surprised the hell out of George. Normal people dont do group hugs with strangers...but..its nice, if smelly. And the tiny woman and magic man, well they dont smell. Group hugs are nice.

Spotting the ..are those wings?..ok. Spotting the faerie..looking disconsolate as the EMTs work, George disengages from the group scent sharing, and putting a hairy paw on his shoulder gently, asks in a low rumble.
"Hey ..you did what you could. They took over. He's alive. So why the sad face?"

Solstice jumped half out of his skin as the tall man touched his shoulder, just above where wing met back. He turned quickly around to face the other with wide panicked eyes. He was left frozen, tripping uselessly over any attempt at words.

Paws up in a calming gesture Solstace can clearly see claws and hair. The panicked in the faeries eyes speak to the wolf within. Prey. But the human backs off.

"Sorry..I forget sometimes people dont like being touched."

Hunching a bit, to look a little less threatening George continues.

"Magic's a part of us," Ryan said. "When it doesn't work the way it should, it's like ... knocking over a glass of red wine on a white tablecloth, or dropping a friend's camera into a cake.* Everything's fine, but you still feel horrible about it."

* Yes, this happened. A friend borrowed my brand new digital camera to take a group photo, and ploop!, right into the Baked Alaska. (Fortunately, a good wipe-down, and it was fine.)

"Oh."
George Thinks he gets it. But, clumsy accidents shouldn't make someone look so upset. Plus, sharp sense hear the quiet words of the faerie. A house burning down is Not the same as spilling wine.

"Dude. Its chill. just..let it go." ahh, Frozen..a movie with a great message.

Not able to help himself, he hugs the fae in sympathy. Then, realizing the faerie probably isnt a hugger, given the reaction before, steps away.
"Sorry...we're..just touchy."

Re: Location: Arlington Antiques

"Heh, thanks. All teamwork though," Pearl said modestly. Her strength was kind of a funny topic for her - it wasn't like she'd gotten where she was through intensive training or something, it just fell in her lap. Her sense of smell was a similar sort of "gift," and when she smelled Dalion circling back she managed a half-step away. He still got her with the periphery of the hug, but she didn't trust him not to attack her hat again now that the emergency was past.

She watched the awkwardness unfold between the others as she got out of the way of the EMTs, then spoke up when she was addressed again. "Pearl, nice to meet you George," she replied. She was momentarily distracted by an incoming text, and she pulled her phone out to find Potts was reporting no serious issues at the restaurant. That was good, at least. She stashed her phone again and said conversationally "Sorry, had to check that. So... some magic going on there, huh?"

Solstice had another sudden idea. If the explosion was magic based, maybe he could sense the source of it. He slowly made his way over to the wreckage again and placed his hand flat against a crumpled piece of the building. He wasn't feeling confident in his magic but he had to try.

"be better under less explosive circumstances." Glancing over at the Faere doing something with the ruins. Is that magic going on now?

"Some Magic you say? Do you mean what we did, or what blew up the place? 'Cause what terrorist blows up a junk shop."

Taking a deep breath, Solstice focused and concentrated on the debris, extending his senses and touching upon the Weave. It was easy enough to sense the inherent magic in this world. However, he was looking for something more specific, something that seemed different or out of place among the usual background hum.

And... there it was. Somewhere inside the wreckage of the shop, was the weakening thrum of psychopomp, unsurprisingly wrapped in a layer of evocation, like some weird magical pig-in-a-blanket. It left a feeling in his mind like wind and smoke, freedom and fire. But, it was fading quickly.

"Oh crap! that's right! names!" the mention of names made Dalion have a sudden realization. "Hey hey hey! wait, I need a word with mister mashed pumpkin there!" he said as he followed the paramedics taking the wounded man. When he got next to them he pushed his way to the side of the wounded man, then he grabbed him by the collar of his clothes and pulled his face close to him. "A name! give me a name!" .
