Hello to everyone, welcome in The Keys of the Otherworld, a game of Mage the Awakening (Second Edition).

The game will be mainly center around Snowdonia, an mountainous region of the County of Gwynedd in northern Wales. The characters will be based in the district of Arfon, on the north Coast, were are the capitol and largest city of Gwynedd.

It will be more about exploration than social challenge. I took inspiration from the Arthur and Celtic mythes. Fate and the Spirits will play a important role in the story.

I will take some elements from Sign of Sorcery (notably the Aedes and Supernal Entities) but the book is not required, I will explain the elements has they come.

Hi,

I'm actually against starting with an established cabal. I've created my character by myself, and a cabal would imply shared points, which I didn't set aside. I'm all for pooling some of our future xp, but as it is I'd be a freerider if we started with a cabal.

Figuring out a cabal would also further delay the start of the game.

I will not be able to launch the game today. Someone made a mistake at my work and i need to clean up the mess.

For the cabal it's like you want. I made it so you can meet but I can adapt my prologue in function.

As in you don’t have any Sanctum or Hallow?

Sorry of the absence. I was busy at work to catch up the delay we had because of someone stupidity (I worked 6 supplementary hours in three days). And now I have someone in my family who died of Covid so my weekend is not as free I wished it to be. At best I can begin the game tomorrow afternoon.

Roll a die. Even is magic. Geometry is odd.

You can spend your 1st in game xp on the other one.

Dispel Magic is more useful than Sacred Geometry and having it as a rote allows to use it at optimum even at the beginning.

My post has raised two questions:

1. Who rolls perception dice/mage sight? Do you want me to roll, or do you roll secretly so I don't know how much I've missed.

2. My character has a praxis, speak to animals. Do you want me to roll it every time she says something to her dog, or can I assume for simplicity's sake that talking with Bran succeeds in non-critical suations.

Think I’m all done but I’m going to sleep on it and do a morning proofread.

If you do an action you think need a roll you can roll it. Mage Sight don't need a roll except to see small detail.

For speaking with dogs I will assume that you are under Speak with Beast with indefinite duration (or really long duration).

Click on where it says Character details in the top left corner. Then click on "Edit character sheet" (under the box with the character information).

If there's nothing there to click then the storyteller has forgotten to give you the right to edit the sheet.

I wanted to said sheet too and not description. I was probably tired. Tell me if you don't have the right.

I see. I asked because I’m bemusedly thinking about it in terms of the text about how your shadow name can mystically affect your life. Personally, if I were the ST I’d go out of my way to throw extra, especially tempting Act of Hubris opportunities your way to represent Morgan le Fay’s shift from being a supporting character in earlier stories to a villain in later ones.

What's the Gauntlet strength in most of Bangor and can I have Exorcist's Eye already on me with a week duration and my familiar holding it for spell control? I'm planning on just keeping that up all the time.

FYI I'm used to putting OOC bits in spoilers instead of orange, because it looks nicer.

The gauntlet strength in Bangor is 4 in nearly all the city except some particulars places.

And no problem for the spell, Morgan is under Speak With Beast all the time.

Cool, without doing anything to make Exorcist's Eye not spammable (chance die, paradox, mana cost) I can cast it at Advanced Potency 5 for a week on myself and my familiar with the reach to see through the Gauntlet, so just assume that's on unless I say otherwise and if it ever matters I can decide what day of the week she renews it.

Places where it’s higher or lower? If there are any Strength 5 spots Beca knows of then at some point soon I’ll probably refresh the spell onscreen but at Potency 6 (onscreen because that’ll cost willpower so it matters how many tries it takes).

"something changed" doesn't make sense. Is that "something had changed" or "something was changing"?

Beca’s pendulum was meant to be her Focused Mage Sight tool when I wrote it down but now that I think about it can a notebook represent “understanding” to be usable for that purpose?

Could her familiar give a bonus to Focused Mage Sight with Strengthen Influence (Knowledge)?

I didn't see your messages. I was probably half-slepping when i read then and didn't remenber them. Sorry about that.

First, the Athenaea's archive have maps of the gauntlet in Bangor, so only small spots are not know. Generally speaking the strenght 5 spot are residential area and at the other end are historicals places.

Second, it is not a spell or attainment of a mage and it' a mysterie of Opacity 2. The notebook and the familiar influence are okay for me.

Has anyone here ever made sense of how scrutinizing with multiple Arcana is supposed to work because I haven’t.

Normally you can make (Gnosis + Arcanum) scrutinize roll before a failure augment Opacity. In case of multiple Arcana the limit is (Gnosis + highest Arcanum - Number of Arcana used).

Yeah but what’s your dice pool and do you only count the Arcana that actually match the Mystery? Can I just throw Spirit in right now and have net +1 safe roll and some number of dice over only using Prime even though there’s no Spirit-related information to be found? I can’t tell at all.

At least one person on Onyx Path’s Discord thinks that yes, you roll (Gnosis + highest Arcanum used) regardless of whether that Arcanum would yield any information by itself, so I’m gonna go ahead and do that now and if you disagree whenever it is you actually show up and read this then that’s what the checkbox to show the individual dice is for.

EDIT: Full analysis (Opacity to 0 then Revelation) successful even if retroactively reduced to rolling Prime.

Speaking of Change Primary Factor, I realized the other day that if I do that instead of Advanced Potency I can spam Exorcist’s Eye at Potency 6 and Day duration so that’s the Potency I have that on both Beca and P’urumun at.

What’s the norm on trading contact info in this consilium? Or at least in the Mysterium caucus? You know, for whether there’s anyone Beca could just call up right now and go “Oi I got something I need your help looking at.”

EDIT: Part of the answer that I just remembered is that there’s any number of ways to be able to call and message people without sharing your normal phone number or anything else that could be traced to your sympathetic name.

Does sticking your hand where a spirit in twilight form is count for touch range casting or do you have to use a spell or attainment that lets you interact physically with spirits in twilight?

For me you need to touch it physically, so you need to shift in twilight (at least your hand) or use the Weaving Pratice to enhance an object or yourself to interact with twilight.

Is it meant to be a mystery how the spirit Influenced someone other than its fetter or just you forgetting it can’t (not without Unfettering first at least)?

If I cast Shadow Walk on multiple subjects, how does +1 Reach to immunize the subjects from it sound (i.e.- make it so the subjects can still notice each other even if some of them are spirits themselves)?

What Practice to make a camera able to take pictures of spirits in twilight?

For the Spirit Walk you can add a Reach so the spirit subject by the spell can see throught it, and since they are subject they are hidden from other spirits.

For the camera I hesitate between Unveilling and Weaving. I will ask on Discord.

If it’s Unveiling can it just be Exorcist’s Eye cast on a camera instead of a separate Exorcist’s Camera spell? I have some unused Scale on Exorcist’s Eye I could just slot Beca’s phone into if so. Maybe a Go-Pro too. :D
