When you and Longbow arrive, a small house is suddenly lit up in a column of pink light.

"Nice of them to let us know where to go," said Nonstop, and he headed in.

The light was very bright and a humming was coming from the basement, an inhuman voice also started screaming.

Good enough!  He kicked in the door and went inside, heading for the basement.  At least he had tons of senses to let him know what was coming...

You can detect something strange downstairs, it didn't feel like a person. when you reach the basement, you see a tall man, but it's hard to look at his face.

"Can I help you, boys?" the man asked.

"Well, yeah," said Nonstop.  "First, big glowy column of pink light.  Kinda draws attention.  What's up with that?  Also, did you lose a talking book?"

"I was banishing a demon," the man said. "And I did. Did you find them?"

"Well, yeah," said Nonstop.  "Tome was pretty freaked out, especially since your place almost burned down with them inside."

"Ah. I didn't realize that happened," the man said. "Thank you for taking care of them."

"Yeah, sure," said Nonstop.  "...so are you going to take Tome back?"

"That depends. it sounds like you're attached to them," the man said.

"We get along okay," said Nonstop.  "But I don't know what a talking book needs."

"Some company mostly," the man said. "If you'd like to keep them, I don't have objections, I have learned everything I can from them."

That sounded cold.

"Like what?" Nonstop asked.

"They were created with the goal of helping teach the magic within it," the man said. "You can keep them, they might come in handy."

"That's cool," said Nonstop.  "I guess the hard part is finding a good student."

"Do you happen to know any?" the man asked. "It's been difficult for me to find some."

"I don't even know what makes a good magic student," said Nonstop.  "My little sister is heavily into science, as is my mother.  My friends have powers or physical skill.  What does a magic student need?"

"A lot of it is like science," the man said. "Curiosity and a willingness to learn are high priorities."

"That's fair, but, say, my sister already has a lot of interests," Nonstop said.  "...well, maybe I'll ask her.  She's probably the best choice I know of."

"It couldn't hurt. Would you please pass on my best wished to the book? I have to go," the man said and then disappeared.

Well, that was odd.  But no help for it but to go check in on the book for now.
