You manage to get back home without incidence.  When you get inside, you see your sister working with electronics on the kitchen table.

"Hey, kiddo," said Jake.  "Solving bandwidth issues worldwide?"

"I'm trying to make a better router as the wifi signal in my secret base sucks," Kate said.

"Excellent," said Jake.  "Where's the secret base?  I ought to get a better one..."

"It's a secret, duh," Kate said.

Jake laughed at that.

"Very good!" he said.  "Is mom around?"

"She's in her room," Kate said. "I think she's watching TV."

"I'll swing by," said Jake, and he did, knocking and listening.

"Is that you, Jake?" your mother asked.

"Yep!" said Jake.  "I'm home!  How's it going?"

"I'm fine. How was the club meeting?" your mother asked.

"Decent," said Jake.  "Saved people from a burning building.  Found a magic book.  Got pizza."

"A magic book?" you mother asked.

"Yeah," said Jake.  "It talks and stuff."

"That's certainly...curious," your mother said.

"Yeah," said Jake.  "We're going to see if we can get security footage of the fire.  Something weird went down there."

He vaguely wondered, in retrospect, if the Tome was trustworthy... but it didn't seem to be capable of movement.  If something went weird, anyway, they'd figure it out.

"I suppose that would mean the new was right about there being an arsonist then," your mother said.

"Yeah, the book told us that there were people with fire powers there, or something like that," said Jake.  "We're trying to find out more about them."

"I'm guessing nothing came up then?" your mom asked.

"Not yet, anyway," said Jake.  "We don't know about any local fire villains who have been active before now."

"There are always more of them," Evila said. "People always want powers."

"Yeah, that makes sense," said Jake.  "Not as common to have a group all with one power, though."

"It could always be a power broker," your mother said. "Maybe they can't grant anything else."

"Could be," said Jake.  "Man, that could be rough.  If it's someone who can give out powers temporarily, that's a hell of a thing to hold over someone."

"It is," your mother said. "I caught your sister trying to give neighbourhood cats powers."

"She's branching out," said Jake.  "I'm impressed!  But the potential for trouble would be pretty bad..."

"Yes. I had to put my foot down," your mother said. "But I'm sure you'd be able to find a rogue one."

"I hope so," said Jake.  "I need more if I'm going to track them by smell or something."

"This is the sort of thing that low level villains usually go into," your mother said.

"Right," said Jake.  "So we're looking for low-level plans.  With fire powers, so... extortion, maybe.  Or murder plots.  Fire powers aren't great for robbing banks; you might burn the money up."

"That's certainly a possibility, but I did mean those that go into being power brokers," your mom said.

"So what do you think I should be looking for?" asked Jake.

"I wouldn't be surprised if he was advertising his services in some way," your mom said.

"A point," said Jake.  "We'll have to see what we can track down, there.  Maybe poke around on the Dark Web or something.  Still need to do something about the Firebugs, though."

"Good luck then," your mom said.

"Thanks," said Jake.  He went to go fire up a TOR browser on his computer, and go trawling through the sewers of the darkweb.

You found a few different websites offering superpowers. There's exactly two of them though that has offers in San Petro.

Interesting... one or both might be fake, but he took a closer look.

Both of them, however, wanted money up front.

Of course they did.  But surely anyone would want proof before sending money, right?  He looked for it, and then, if that wasn't available, he reached out, asking for proof.

One of them email you back, refusing to. The other one sent you a video file.

Jake examined it carefully.

It features a figure in shadow.

"Yeah, the process works great," he said, as he shot out a blast of flame that covered his face. "I'm in the big time now!"

Well, that looked very likely.

"Hey, mom," he said.  "Can I borrow some Bitcoin for the cause of justice?"

"I'm low on it at the moment. Ask your sister," your mom said.

"Sooooo," said Jake.  "How's my favorite sister?  Up for making sacrifices for the cause of justice?"

"I'm your only sister," she pointed out.

"I admit that the competition doesn't have a chance," said Jake.  "However, you also beat out hypothetical alternate sisters, and that's more impressive.  Anyway, someone appears to have given some people fire powers that they used to burn down a building.  I'm trying to track them down.  Can you help me, one way or another?"

"What do you need?" Kate asked.

Jake showed her what he'd found.

"One option would be to borrow Bitcoin from you and pay the guy," he said.  "Another would be if some kind of genius I am in awe of could somehow backtrack this, get metadata from the video so I can find them, something like that."

"I can do both," Kate said. "But you owe me."

"Yep, I do," said Jake.  "Thanks."

He tried to set up a meeting...

Sunday, at Warehouse 13 on the Waterfront. - the email said.

"Okay," said Jake.  "Looks like we have a plan.  Can you get anything out of that?"

"I'll try a few things, but no promises," Kate said.

"Can't ask more than that," said Jake.  "Thanks."

"'Kay, I'm gonna go play some games," Kate said as she headed downstairs.

Jake sent a email telling his teammates what he was up to.

How do you want to deal with it? - Longbow texted back.

Setting up a meet.  Probably could use some backup.

Sure, but us hiding outside waiting for a signal or something? - Grendel texted.

Yeah, most likely.  Unless my expert buddy can track down info from the guy's email.

Maybe you should introduce us to them sometime, Hurricane said.

Not impossible, but not yet, he sent back.

Well, that was that, for now.  But he ought to look in on his sister.

"So, Kate, some of the guys want to meet my mysterious genius buddy sometime," he said.

"I dunno, they don't seem very cool," Kate said.

"That's fair," said Jake.  "I'll keep 'em guessing for now."

"I got stuff to do anyway," Kate said.

"Just awaiting world domination on your end, then," teased Jake.  "But whatever it is will probably be pretty cool.  Let me know if you need a hand with whatever it is."

"You'd just embarrass me in front of my friends," Kate said.

"Probably true," Jake agreed.  "And maybe not even on purpose."

Kate just gave you a look.

"Sorry, Big Brother rules, you know," he said.  "...but also, given that your friends are probably geniuses, a real thing."

"Uh, huh. Maybe I'll tell you about them sometime," Kate said.

"Looking forward to it," said Jake.  "It would be fair.  You know about my friends."

"I do, I wish I didn't," Kate said, sticking out her tongue at you.

"Alas, that you must live i such an imperfect world," sighed Jason.  "A tragedy."

"Glad you understand," Kate said.

"Well, I'm sure the world won't hold you back for long," Jake said.  "Nothing does."

Kate smiled.

"Dang straight."

"All right," said Jake.  "I'm going to go do some homework and stuff."

He wasn't a genius, after all, and did need to study.

After about an hour and a half, you have finished your homework.

Well, that was... all right.  He went to watch some TV for a bit.  Specifically, the news...

There was some fantastic shots of you and the team dealing with the fire. The newscasters were praising the team for being so young and yet doing such fine work. Next was camera footage that had them talking about a new hero. The figure appeared to be a teenage girl in a very pulp-like costume teleporting about and fighting some weird spider-like monster that when defeated, turned into a human.

Interesting... although he'd been hoping for footage of the Firebugs.  Oh, well.  Probably time for bed.

Your phone started vibrating.

Yeah, that figured.  He checked his phone.

We have some footage - Longbow wrote, there was a link to a video.

The video showed a group of four people in white and red matching costumes in the lobby, blasting fire everywhere for about forty seconds before they fled.

"Well, it's a starting point," said Jake.  "...Now we know what to start looking for."

I'm thinking it's that power guy is the key for sure - Hurricane wrote.

He is, but we need to track him down.  These four are more visible.  And their powers made that much more practical.

You have that meeting set up, but I hope these guys don't do anything before it, Longbow typed.

Yeah.  We'd better keep our senses ready in case of more fires.

Jake went out.  It was good to hang out with Grendel-- poor guy had a hard time getting much of a social life.

when you got home, it was quiet, but you see a not on the table.

"There is some lemonade and store bought cake in the fridge - mom"

Jake, of course, snacked before bedtime.  He made a mental note to check in on the tome in the morning...

Soon enough morning came...

Jake got up early and went to swing by the base, to see how a certain magical book was doing.

And so you arrived home without any issue.

"Hey, how's it going?" George asked, walking in the front door.

"I'm okay," your mother said. "What have you been up to?"

"Unlikely things," said George.  "Wizards, the talking magic book that is looking for a student to teach, and a cartoon rabbit somehow in this world."

"A cartoon rabbit?" your mother asked.

"A cartoon rabbit," George affirmed.  "I don't even know any more.  He picked up his hole and walked away with it..."

"That's...a little strange," your mother said. "Your sister's adventures don't get that strange."

"...what kind of trouble does she get into?" asked George, concerned.

"She just got back from the fairy realm, as I understand it," your mother said.

"Didn't expect that," said George.  "Maybe I should talk to her about it."

"If you want to. I made sure she was okay," your mother said.

"Sure," said George.  "I kind of wonder if there's some kind of general-purpose leakage between worlds, though..."

He went to look for Kate.

You found here in her room, furiously scribbling something in her diary.

"Hey, Kate," said George.  "Hear you had an adventure.  Was it as weird as mine?"

"I dunno, I've been to Fairyland before," Kate said.

"Really?" said George.  "Impressive.  I just met a cartoon rabbit... how was the trip this time?"

"Pretty good, the Unseelie attacked but we managed to send them running with my ray gun," Kate said.

"Nothing can stop the power of science, eh?" said George.  "Well done.  Don't forget a personal defense, of course."

Kate just gave you a look.

"Way ahead of me there, eh?" said George.  "Cool.  It's been kind of strange so far, but I'm hoping that tomorrow, I can finally get somewhere.  I feel like I've been spinning my wheels a lot."

"Well, maybe you should go looking for allies," Kate said.

"That's not a bad idea," said George, "but who?  I met a wizard, but he left town.  The cartoon rabbit has his own thing going on.  Tome is a book.  I did talk to this gang member, but I don't know if she'd make a good ally..."

"There's other superheroes in town," Kate said. "Like this one I found on Youtube."

"Oh?" said George, now very curious.  "What have you got?"

Kate grabs her tablet and puts in a couple of things and shows a video of an Asian girl dressed in a black and red costume that looks like something out of the 30s or maybe 40s. She was fighting some weird giant spider-like monster and teleporting around.

"Huh, interesting..." said George.  "I might have to look her up... I wonder if she's into guys?  And single?"

"That's hard to tell from a Youtube video, ya dork," Kate said.

"Well, obviously," said George.  "That's why I'm speculating instead of asking your opinion.  It's a puberty thing."

Kate rolled her eyes.

"I can try and find out who she is, well, besides her hero name."

"Cool," said George.  "Yeah, please do."

"Okay, but you owe me one," Kate said.

"That's fair," said George.  "Done."

"Good," Kate said. "These martial arts type aren't hard to figure out, they always keep their style consistent."

"...fair, fair," said George.  "That is, of course, very clever of you, which is exactly what I would expect of my genius little sister."

"Yes, yes, I deserve all of the praise," Kate said, not looking up from her tablet.

"Of course," said George.  Being her older brother, he ruffled her hair.

Kate let out a groan and swatted at your hand.

George withdrew his hand with lightning speed, grinning.

"You'll catch me one of these days," he predicted.

"You're just lucky I haven't built any anti-brother tech yet," Kate said.

"Well, the fae realms might keep you a bit busy there," said George.  "...Or give you inspiration."

"Eh, it depends. A shocking forcefield would be good enough," Kate said.

"It might," said George.  "Consider the side-effects of AC vs DC if you use actual electricity.  Either one might be awkward."

"Duuuuh," Kate said.

"Fair, fair," said George.  "I look forward to suffering under your ministrations."

Kate perked up.

"'Kay. I'll also find your new girlfriend."

"Thanks," said George.  "...wonder if she'll feel that way about it?"

"I don't know. It all seems gross to me," Kate said.

"Well, you may or may not change your mind about that," said George.  "Either way, you're still my sister."

"Thanks? I think," Kate said.

"Well, unless it turns out that you're not a sister," said George.  "But you'll still be my sibling, even then."

"I have no idea what happened to this conversation," Kate said.

"I introduced a complicated concept of gender identity without warning you," said George.  "That's all."

"Oh, okay," Kate said.

"So should I let you work?" George asked.

"Yep! Out!" Kate said, pointing at the door.

"Got it!" laughed George, and he went back to his own room to do homework and rest.

And so, the next day came.
