Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

Declan Farlas:
Does Gloomhaven have any setting-specific gods?

I think there's one reference to a Blood God on one of the cards.  You fight a lot of eldritch monstrosities.  There's even a paladin-like character you unlock in the game, but there's not many references to gods.
The Gloomhaven chartacters, at least as I've seen, don't really have anything like a cleric.  There's other "support" classes - a bard, a doctor, a gadgeteer, etc, but the magic seems to mostly arcane and artificier rather than divine.

Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

Well if I understand correctly, this is a merging of D&D and Gloomhaven, so I hope there is room for a cleric.

Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

Right, I'm just trying to think of what the actual setting of Gloomhaven as presented in the board game implies.  There are certainly demons of various stripes, so that might imply the presence of evil gods.

Does 5th edition still give you the option of being the god of a "philosophy"?  In 2E, I remember you could worship an idea or ideal rather than a specific god.

Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

No clue, though I imagine any edition of D&D would allow it if the DM wanted it. I am rather hoping it is unimportant enough to let me keep Athena, but it isn't a deal breaker.

I have to admit, the name Gloomhaven is pretty evocative, puts me in mind of Ravenloft to some degree.

In reply to Sequitur Stoneboat (msg # 18):

Yeah, the setting is definitely grim. There’s a lot of fighting against demons and finding and banishing ancient things best left unknown.

There is a curse/bless mechanic, which would seem to be imply some kind of higher power. There’s also a Sanctuary of the Great Oak in town, which would be a nod to some kind of Druidic order, or Green Order.

I like that kind of setting, when you all start at first level, like we are.

In reply to Dorgaz Shadowhorn (msg # 17):

In 5E your not so much restricted to a god or goddess. Strong conviction in a belief system is good enough. I played a Warforged forge cleric that worshiped the stars as eternal forges and drew power from that.

Yeah, I will get mine up as soon as I can. I have grades that I need to turn in for my students this Friday and Monday, so I might be a little slow.

I usually ignore when a word is misspelled, it is something we all do, but it is often funny when the end result is a word in it's own right.

A poor man's red powder or cream used as a cosmetic for coloring the cheeks or lips?

I love that one, I see it a lot.

Still finishing up a couple of characters. While we work out the details, we can start with the intro meeting and roleplaying scene.

Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

Why don't you try sneaking first, Phayde, and if that doesn't work we will try the talky method.

Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

I concur. Anything we learn from the sneaky method could be useful.

This reminds me of a fun game I was in here a LONG time ago, but got thrown out of because the party was all good aligned, and I disagreed with the parties decision to set a warehouse on fire, and risking burning down half the town. Hope this time things go smoother for me!

Re: The Tavern (OOC Area)

I took a second look at the game thread before I decided to post, and I'm thinking that Roan's idea might be a better first step. We could capture one of the cloaked and masked figures and then have someone go in. If you'd like, I can try to sneak around the perimeter to look for an alternative way in.

I figured I would do that before rolling the die and roleplaying the result, lol.
