5 Gulthias Tree

Brankx, Lando, and Ireena attempt to sneak around to the Gulthias tree. It is a few hundred feet to the south of the hill, and you are 100' from it when a few of the bushes surrounding it snap their heads and turn to look at you.

Twig blights? Yes and no. These are different. Bigger. 3 stand up and begin to walk forward, you see they are 10' tall and covered in vines. 3 others stand up and spikes protrud from the center, it looks like they can shoot them quite far.

All 3 are 100' away.

Lando said,"shit!" under his breathe, but quickly calculated his options. He stood tall in defiance of the threat and strode forward while drawing up his viola and playing a soft lullaby as he spoke soothing words.

Move: 10' toward the spike blights
action: cast sleep 23 hp total I set the center of the 20' radius to capture all the spike blights if I can.

This spell sends creatures into a magical slumber. Roll 5d8; the total is how many hit points of creatures this spell can affect. Creatures within 20 feet of a point you choose within range are affected in ascending order of their current hit points (ignoring unconscious creatures).

Starting with the creature that has the lowest current hit points, each creature affected by this spell falls unconscious until the spell ends, the sleeper takes damage, or someone uses an action to shake or slap the sleeper awake. Subtract each creature's hit points from the total before moving on to the creature with the next lowest hit points. A creature's hit points must be equal to or less than the remaining total for that creature to be affected.

Undead and creatures immune to being charmed aren't affected by this spell.

Dark magic cracks from Ireena's fingertips and the third spikey boy smashes to splinters.

"Brankx, you're our tanky boy, get in there."

But you won't be in melee range this turn.
Lando 90' away. Ireena 90' away. Brankx 100' away.

9 bludgeoning damage

Ireena looks shocked and yells "STOP" at it, and oddly, the creature obeys her command, letting Brankx free.

Round 2

"Brankx! are you alright!? Those things are pretty nasty up close, maybe we should strike from a distance.  Here! maybe this will help." As he put away his viola, Lando sang a melodic tune and hundreds of small wisps of violet light appeared before Brankx in the area the blights stood, and enveloped the creatures.

Move: moving to 60' from the vine blights.  If I have any movement left after my spell I want to back up as much as possible.

Action: cast faerie fire, trying to get the blights, but not Brankx in the area.

Each object in a 20-foot cube within range is outlined in blue, green, or violet light (your choice). Any creature in the area when the spell is cast is also outlined in light if it fails a Dexterity saving throw. For the duration, objects and affected creatures shed dim light in a 10-foot radius.

Any attack roll against an affected creature or object has advantage if the attacker can see it, and the affected creature or object can't benefit from being invisible.

Brankx winced as the vine wrapped him and squeezed, arms at his side, but when it’s released him he sighed. With Lando’s comments, he frowned as he attacked. “Really….such a good idea. Maybe if I had crossbow I could, ye fool!” Daggers in hand he swiped at the newly lit up enemies as he fought, roaring like a mad dwarf

Lando was a bit shocked that Brankx didn't have a range weapon, but Lando didn't really understand melee combat.  He'd rather bullshit his way out of a situation, or shoot his enemies from a distance, or run if things went bad, all of which could be done better if you didn't get into hand to hand combat in the first place. "We should really do some shopping to better equip ourselves when this is over.  I could lend you my crossbow if you like."

All 3 vine blights glow from magic.

Ireena blasts an eldritch blast and it blasts the vine blight nearest brankx.

When brankx finishes hacking away with his knives he is pleased to see the vines don't grow back.

The two that remain seem to entangle each other...

"What in the world???" Ireena scoffs at the flailing Vine blights.

BRANKX you forgot they have faerie fire, you have adv and sneak atk. I re-rolled.)

Brankx and Lando's combined attacks slay vine blight 2. Ireena peppers vine blight 3 with eldritch blasts, her fingernails crackling with black energy.

Vines wrap up around Brankx and squeeze. 9 bludgeoning damage, is grappled (escape DC 12). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and the blight can't constrict another target.

You finish the last vine blight, and crush the heads of the sleeping ones before they wake.

Skuldja and Zrakrud soon catch up to you.

Ireena points at the huge, misshapen tree at the middle of this blight grove. Blood oozes like sap from its twisted trunk. Skulking around the tree are six more needle blights. Embedded in the tree is a shiny battleaxe, beneath which lies a humanoid skeleton.

You hear a whisper, a deep voice carried on the wind. “Long have I waited,” it says, “for one who is worthy. Take the axe. Cut Gulthias down and take her to the days of Yester. Dig me up and take my spear. My spear hungers for blood. Retrieve it, and rule these mountains in my stead, just like the mighty warriors from the early days of the Whispering Wall.”

Once the active fight was over, Lando dropped concentration on his spell, and the glow faded away. He greeted the others when they arrived, "hail, fellows.  It's good to see you all.  I hope your fight wasn't too much trouble.  Brankx took a bit of knock on our side, but Ireena and I are unharmed."

Looking at the blights guarding the tree he said, "lets soften them up from a range before we get into striking distance, shall we?"

He closed the distance to normal crossbow range, and waited for the others to be ready before firing.

Move: 80' from the blights

Action: ready to fire crossbow once the rest of the group are ready.
