I think we are almost ready to start. There are 3 more people working their way through. I think I will open the beginning thread soon-- it will be along the road that leads to school (don't worry too much about which direction). This will give you the opportunity to describe your characters morning routine and be able to gather some info about what is happening in the city from the friendly neighborhood watchman.

Yeah-- I don't know what to say. I provided 3-5x as many families in every clan to choose from as well as the option to just create one-- as well as providing 2 additional Great Clans, but Hiruto is the only one who chose something other than the ruling family of one of the normal clans.

I got a partially completed application to play an Anneda and there was someone who was with me for 4 weeks as I wrote up all of the reference threads... only to kind of go silently once I had the 20 questions up. He said he wanted to play a Sakura character, but... I guess something came up for him.

Oh well. The format of this game ought to make it super easy for people to drop in, especially as we go through the first school day.

Yeah, I've had my concept for a Scorpion courtier in my mind for a while, and it just fit to be part of the ruling family. The other ideas, like just a bushi or a shinobi from the Scorpion clan probably could've been from any family.

Children are then surely tiny people. (Hiruto perhaps being an exception...)

Anyway, in the opening post please do give narrative on what the character did before arriving on the road and then feel free to interact with one of the characters presented.

I think this might just be an effect of having a bit of fiction to hang ideas and themes off of. At least, that's what it was for me. I love the idea of having more families in each Clan, as it builds out the world and makes if feel a little less gamified. Ditto for the inclusion of the Owl and the struggle for Shogun. Honestly, I like all the setting changes!

But, like Shino, this is a take on a concept I've had for a little while.

I think there's some naming mishaps in that last IC post there Amaterasu. :P Think I got the gist though.

I haven't managed to run a game yet, but I've been trying to get myself organized enough to start one. It does get confusing fast though.

I absolutely agree!  Having helped put a few games together over the years, I know how much goes into prepping for it, and this is truly impressive mate, well done!

Hmm... I don't want to disrupt your creation of plans until you have worked things out. But if any of you feel like you need to wait for your "turn"-- please don't. But Mei is the only one who posted today.

My experience of well over a decade on this site is the #1 game killer is the combination of those thinking they need to wait for someone else to post before continuing a conversation and those thinking they shouldn't bother to post because nothing that happened directly affects them and requires their character to react. And, yes, the #3 thing is people who log in after a day, see an entire new page of posts and feel so out-of-it that they are discouraged from posting anything. But we aren't at the pace right now where anyone is doing 6 posts a day so someone who can only do 1 will get lost.

So I would like to create this policy-- even if you have /directly/ asked someone something and they did not respond in a day, just post about how they are reacting or what they are thinking about the other conversations/actions the other players are taking and the person who missed a day can retroactively respond or can just write that they took a moment to really think of what to say in response and so got cut off by the others.

Remember that you are playing children, so non-sequiturs and interrupting each other is totally expected. So use that as an easy excuse.

Just-- let's please, please keep things rolling.

(I will note I was slightly disappointed that no one bothered to ask the magistrate assigned to the school about the city crime news, but I hope the way I slipped in information he was intended to share worked to keep the story hook alive.)

Noted!  And yes, loss of momentum is quite the killer, though I'm not worried about us from what I've seen.

And don't worry, talking to the magistrate was on the to-do list after class.

I'll keep that in mind!
