This post details exceptions to the rules -- use the options described in the main RMFRP rules, and Character Law (ChL), except where noted here.
- Races: Do not use the races in RMFRP or ChL; race and culture will be drawn from the Races & Cultures book where available, though most 'human' races will have their stats taken from the 4th-edition Shadow World Master Atlas. Note that adolescent ranks, available hobby skills, and roleplaying traits (like prejudices, religion, and outfitting) are derived from your culture, which is primarily terrain-based.
- Professions: All professions from RMFRP and ChL are available.
- Adolescence Skills: Remember that this stage of development uses the rules in Races & Cultures -- your initial skills, languages, hobby skills, and background options are based on one's culture, not race.
- Background Options: I'll be using Talents and Flaws from ChL, but not the point-based version (unless everyone asks for that). Your starting money will be influenced by how much you put into the Wealth Level option -- you can still count on starting with about 20 silver worth, even if you don't add anything.
- Training Packages: To make initial character-creation easier, I strongly recommend spending at least two-thirds of your starting Development Points on Training Packages. Remember that you can only have one Lifestyle package.
- Outfitting: Your available equipment depends heavily on where you are from; some cultures in the beginning region (NW Emer) haven't advanced past using copper and bronze. Materials matter, especially for armor and weapons. The rules assume hard iron and/or ash for most tools, but you may be limited to other materials.
If any of this requires information from rulebooks you don't have, just let me know; I'll get you what you need to make informed choices.
