"No, it took a lot of effort to get her here," Umuru said.

"And then how did you know right where to find her?" said Yahribol.  "This poor, innocent angel is now corrupt, and it's your fault!"

"...But... I'm not..." Paha tried, but she couldn't get a word in edgewise.

"I have not corrupted her, I have no interest in corrupting angels," Umuru said.

"But you clearly have!" said Yarhibol.  "This poor, innocent child, standing side by side with a demon?  How else could this be?"

"I am a broken demon," Umuru said.

"That doesn't even make any sense!" said Yarhibol.  "Paha.  I fear this demon will corrupt you.  Please, dear child.  Show me you are still pure.  Destroy her."

"I do not wish to fight," Umuru said. "I have not done anything worth being executed for."

"You are a DEMON," said Yarhibol.  "What you have done is not as--"

"Please, stop," said Paha.  "She's not evil!  There's no need to--"

"...it's too late for you," said Yahribol, sadly.  "I must seek judgment, however.  Wait here.  Do not leave the planet."

And Yahribol abruptly shot off into space.

"What should we do? Should we follow her?" Umuru asked.

"I'm not fast enough," said Paha.  "And I doubt that you are, either."

"I will surrender if I get a fair trial," Umuru said.

"Does your definition of 'fair' include 'being destroyed because you're a demon'?" Paha asked.  "I think that's likely."

"No, I do not believe that would be fair for what I have done. I have stolen things, buut that is not normally a capital crime," Umuru said.

"I agree with that," said Paha.  "My point is, I doubt that you'll get anything that you would call a 'Fair Trial.'  I fear that the angels will come for us both."

"Are all angels like this? Are you a broken one? I understand as a broken demon," Umuru said.

"Archangels are different from us," Paha explained.  "We're more like... mortal people.  We're intended to be the ones who speak to them, and deal with them more.  Archangels are different.  They aren't good with emotional things, for example."

"But isn't this a more logical situation?" Umuru asked.

"Logic... depends on what your premises are," said Paha.  "Logically, as a demon, you're a threat, and the specific kind of threat we were created to destroy.  My failure to destroy you, therefore, is logically a serious problem."

"I do not like this. There must be a solution without someone dying," Umuru said.

"I hope we can think of one," sighed Paha.  "As it stands, Angels will probably come after both of us.  I've got no choice but to work with you now."

"Perhaps my girlfriend can help," Umuru said.

"Your gir-- is there something I didn't know about the person you were dating?" Paha asked.  "...I thought you spoke of them as male.  I apologize for the misunderstanding."

"Oh, I am dating two people. He's just a human though and probably would not be much help," Umuru said. "My girlfriend is a very smart scientist not of the Earth."

"You-- OH!" said Paha, blushing.  "Two... lovers.  Ah.  Well.  Demon. I suppose..."

Her head was clearly whirling.

"Your... girlfriend.  Who is she?  We should meet."

"I'll show you," Umuru said, grabbing hold of Paha and taking her to Ehri's lab.
