PC Creation

PCs can come in all shapes and sizes. They will not know each other before the game begins. The game will involve combat and problem solving so a well balanced party should help. Your PC can come from any D&D world, published or homebrew. This game will take place on a strange world of my own creation; how you got there is a mystery...

Allowable races / classes / backgrounds - any from the books listed below. This should give you plenty to choose from. Flying and Evil races are permitted. If the race/class/background appears in multiple sourcebooks please clarify which one you are using as there as sometimes variances.

Stats - use 27 point for stat build, min 8 max 15 before racial adjustments.

Feats - all PCs can select one bonus Feat at character creation phase. Other Feats can be acquired as per normal rules.

Level - all PCs will start at level 1. You will gain XP normally and will level up after a long rest. Different PCs may receive different XP amounts depending upon their actions, so you may not all level up at the same time.

Hit Points - max HP at level 1. For level 2+ please roll with Advantage.

Starting equipment - To start with you will have just the clothes you stand up in. Magic users will also have their spell books and an arcane focus (not a staff).

Personality Traits, Ideals, Bonds & Flaws - You can roll randomly, choose appropriate ones or make up your own, it’s up to you.

Alignment - Anything is allowed. PCs will be forced to work together for their mutual interest, so it might be interesting to see how an LG and CE work together! However, I will expect you to play to your alignment, or you might find it changes!

Height & Weight - you can choose or roll randomly, whichever you prefer.

Pantheon - if required, you can follow any god from any pantheon included in the books listed below, or you can make up your own.

———

Books - I have the following sourcebooks.

Codex: Unearthed Arcana
Dungeon Masters Guide
Elemental Evil Players Companion
Ghosts of Saltmarsh
Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica
Midgard Heroes
Midgard Heroes Handbook
Midgard Worldbook
Monster Manual
Mordenkainen‘s Tome of Foes
Players Handbook
Southlands Heroes
Sword Coast Adventurers Guide
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Volo’s Guide to Monsters
Xanathar’s Guide to Everything

In your RTJ please include the phrase ‘here be dragons’ so I know you have read the character creation guidelines properly.

Game Rules

Obvious player etiquette applies. Be nice and remember this is a game to have fun, not a forum to abuse other players (or me). Failure to comply will result in a friendly warning, a formal warning and then expulsion from the game.

Please don't be a rules lawyer. I have DMed before but this is the first game I have run in 5e. If you think I have made a mistake feel free to give me a nudge, but be nice. I will do my best to be fair to all players.

Posting rate will be slow, ideally 2-3 IC posts per week. Try to write good posts describing your actions and what your character is feeling as this will give me and the other players useful information to work with to make the game more interesting. Try to avoid 1-2 line posts where possible.

If you can't post for whatever reason please let me know ASAP and I will NPC you for a while (but not forever). AWOL players will be given fair notice, but eventually you will be ejected and your PC will be taken over by another player or replaced with a new PC.

Language - this game is rated Mature. Please avoid foul language and use fun alternatives (“Odin’s Beard! That smells awful!”). They are fun to write and fun to read.

Speech and thought. Please write speech “In colour using speech marks” and give your inner thoughts In italic. Don’t use Orange for speech. Please choose a unique colour and stick with it, there are plenty to choose from.

OOC in IC thread - any OOC message in the IC thread should be in Orange.

Dice rolls - only rolls on the in-game Dice Roller will count. Please copy and paste into the IC thread at the end of your post, and put them in orange. Use Secret Roll when appropriate.

PC Death

Characters will die. If there is no risk of PC death then the game quickly gets boring. I won't go out of my way for a TPK, but I won't fudge it if the players put themselves in such a situation.

If your character dies you will be invited to bring in a new PC who will join the story as soon as is feasible.

New PCs will start at a level equal to the lowest level member of the existing party, on minimum XP for that level. If there is a TPK then the new party will all start at the same level.

Combat

To simplify any combat the following will happen:

Combat tags - include combat tags in orange when in combat. This will help you, me and other players keep an eye on hit points, remaining spells and other key information. An example is:

Baldrik the Bard
AC 13
HP 20 / 18
Spell slots remaining - L1-2  /  L2-0
Bardic Inspiration remaining  - 2

Action - Cast Scorching Ray
Bonus Action - Give Fingal the Fighter Bardic Inspiration

13:45, Today: Baldrik the Bard rolled 2,6,6 using 2d6,2d6,2d6 with rolls of 1,1,5,1,4,2.  Damage (if applicable).
13:43, Today: Baldrik the Bard rolled 19,12,8 using 1d20+5,1d20+5,1d20+5 with rolls of 14,7,3.  Scorching Ray v goblins at E4,E5,E6.
