The world of Krynn

The Age of Might (1000 PC - 0 PC)

The High Priests of Paladine have saved the great city of Istar during the chaos wars which had lasted for centuries, endearing the populace to the church. The dwarves return to Thoradin after the war and open trade routes with Istar. The Thorbardin dwarves found the kingdoms of Kayolin and Hillow .

Solamnia, under the leadership of their greatest hero, Holdrich the Magnificent, allies with Hylo and grants mining rights to the dwarves of Thorbardin. The Ogre Wars erupt as ogres and their greenskin allies attempt to drive the dwarves from Thoradin.

The elves have disappeared in a self-imposed isolation having suffered mightily during the war. Trade wars break out against Istar over the emergent empire’s trade laws, and the Kender (halflings) tax is signed.

Istar's expansion continues until it becomes Ansalon's single major power, and claims itself the moral center of the world. The first Kingpriest takes power and the empire of Istar begins enforcing the Kingpriest's policies and repressing freedoms.

Frustrated with the humans, elves withdraw deeper into their forests. The Kingpriest gives the Proclamation of Manifest Virtue and draws up a list of evil acts that result in execution or arena time.

Istar’s priests begin losing their clerical powers. The Kingpriest adds to the Proclamation by declaring that certain races are evil. The empire of Istar conquers the minotaurs almost eradicates the entire race of warrior-philosophers. Istar becomes the religious center of Ansalon. Tensions mount between the Istarian priests and the Wizards of High Sorcery, until Kingpriest Beldinas starts the Lost War by sending Istar to war against the Towers of High Sorcery. Two of the towers are destroyed and the wizards agree to exile themselves to the remote Tower of Wayreth, ending the conflict.

Word spreads that the Kingpriest is preparing to declare himself a god. The people of Istar applaud the effort but are sent Thirteen Warnings by the gods to warn them of their folly. True priests begin to vanish, trees weep blood, and the city of Istar is battered by a continuous storm. The citizens of Istar and their Kingpriest declare the signs as being the work of chaos. The Kingpriest continues his preparations, and on the third day of the new year, the Cataclysm occurs.

Ansalon is torn asunder, new bodies of water form, and innumerable lives are lost. The empire of Istar is destroyed by a comet. Ansalon fractures and the entire Ergoth coast breaks away. The New Sea is formed in the zoid. Every priest of every god, good or evil vanish from the face of Krynn.

Age of Despair (ca. 1 AC - 331 AC)

The fallout from the Cataclysm lasts for centuries. Plague and famine wrack the lands. Knights of Solamnia are unjustly persecuted as scapegoats. Lawlessness and banditry run rampant.

Beleaguered hill dwarves and humans attempt to gain entry to Thorbardin for food and begin the Dwarfgate War. A powerful archmage destroys both armies as well as the fortress of Zhaman. The dwarven hero Kharas, sickened by the acts of his people, takes the Hammer of Honor and departs Thorbardin. He leaves a prophecy saying that no dwarf will rule Thorbardin without the hammer, which becomes known as the Hammer of Kharas.

The Seeker movement emerges as people look to new gods.

Time of Dragons (today, 332 AC)

Our story begins....

Magic and Magic Users

The only place that an aspiring apprentice may take the Test is at the Tower of High Sorcery at Wayreth. The apprentice used to be able to take it at all the Towers of High Sorcery, but now only Wayreth remains for them to take the Test at.

Those who wish to take the Test, must first be apprenticed to one who is a master in Magic. Once the apprentice has gained enough knowledge, and usually about 25 years of age, they are invited by the Conclave to take the Test.

After the apprentice has been invited, they will travel with one companion to the Tower of Wayreth.
