The dwarves of the Ebon Peak Range have long warred against the Giant Nations of the Verdant Plains. For centuries raids from the giants have plagued the farming villages of the mountain valleys despite the best efforts for the garrisons at the forts along the mountain passes. Within the Mountain Halls themselves the sprawling masses of dwarfdom live in squalor, eating of the various underground crops and fish from underground rivers.

The Dwarf Lords themselves fair better than the masses but their political power only extends as far as the people allow it. There have been rumblings of discontent within the lower tunnels and while the priesthood of the Mountain Father preach day and night that without the Lords and their Knights to protect them the huddled masses would be another ripe delicacy on a giant's plate.

The Knights in service to the Dwarf Lords are elite fighting units raised from best that the greater Ebon Peak Militia has to offer, along with the scions of the noble houses themselves. These professional soldiers make it their business to march out from the tunnels spanning the mountains and lead the fight against any Giants that threaten Dwarven interests.
