Episode 0: Prologue

Interior: the office of Freeman Stanton, currently executive officer of the month for the Aersi Autonomous Collective.

The rotund, bearded elder of the community sits in the plush leather chair, a relic of the ancients that somehow contains his bulk.

Before him is a leather bound valise. He pulls out a number of images, considers each carefully. A rhythmic, staccato drumming noise accompanies each action. Some he throws aside on the desk. A select few are set carefully in a tray. He nods.

"Get me these six. They are the only ones who can save us." He closes the case, which has the legend "Best Resources: Emergencies" with the letters B.R.E. below.

The camera pans out to show Maharet drumming her fingers on the haft of her staff absentmindedly. "And * must * you do that?"

OOC: Where are you, what are you doing, who comes for you to summon you to the Freeman's office?

Episode 0: Prologue

Scale was doing what he typically did...reading. Outside in the street, he leapt up to the roofs of one of the nearby houses. Using his odd, birdlike stance to perfectly balance away from the people moving around on the street below.

It took several yells to get him to break away from his current chapter.

"You! Up there! The...the Vek, yes? You...you have been summoned!" came the voice of one of the servants of the elder.

Scale tilted his head, and then leaped down a good 20 feet directly in front of the man. The size and closeness of the large lizard caused him to take a few steps back out of reflex.

"Yes...yes." Scale said in his odd hissing purr of a voice.  "You warm blood maybe know the riddle I seek, yes?"

Scale was sure the ancients must have given some record to thier descendants...but often he was disappointed. Very few knew anything about the ancient world...save for Maggs of course.

"I...I dont know anything. I have been charged to bring you to the elder. That's all."

Scale growled, which made the man go all shades of pale. "Very well..." he hissed, gesturing for the warm blood to lead on.

Episode 0: Prologue

Maggs was listening to the heart of Areasi. Deep in the ruins of the complex, machines thrummed and coloured lights flickered as the ancient tech worked to keep the settlement alive. This living heart of the complex fascinated her and it was here that you could always find the wasteland scavenger...tinkering...learning.

Suddenly, she cocked her head and frowned, looking towards a tunnel that led into the chamber. Quickly putting the small thin screwdriver she'd been holding into a battered roll-up leather wrap, she began to scamper away from the entrance tunnel just as a man appeared.

"Maggs! I've been looking for you for hours!" the man grumbled, wiping sweat from his brow, "This place is a maze...I was sure I'd checked in here earlier."

Maggs whipped around to stare at the man, baring her teeth and hissing.

"Sorry, Maggs," he said, taking a step back, "It's the boss. He wants to talk to you. Said it was important."

She stared at the man and then nodded curtly. A moment later and she had darted up the entrance tunnel, leaving the man to find his own way out of the maze of chambers and tunnels.
