Game Rules and House Rules

Below are some general game rules as well as house rules for different mechanics of the game. These rules are meant to enrich a writing-focused D&D game. Think of it like writing your own fantasy book based on your character(s).

Game Rules:
1.) No drama in the OOC about IC events. Should you disagree with the GM or another player air your grievances in a PM. The GM reserves the right to kick any players they deem as problematic.
2.) All dice rolls must be copied/pasted from the dice roller here in the Rpol game and highlighted in orange at the bottom of an in-character post. Feel free to post it as private or public. Also please put an adequate description of every roll so when the GM audits the dice roller log he knows exactly what each dice is for.
3.) No godmoding (ranging from controlling another character that isn't assigned to you to even simply inferring or assuming another character's actions when posting as your own character) or metagaming (operating your character with information in-game or out that your character doesn't have). These ruin gameplay for everyone and will not be tolerated. If you need more information about another player's character actions in game ask them via PM.
---a.) This also applies to charisma based roles to intimidate or persuade another player's character to do what you want. All character differing opinions must be handled and decided outside of gameplay.
4.) OVERSTATE and OVERCOMMUNICATE wins the day. There are smaller things that can be assumed a character does or has active, but to er on the side of caution please take the extra time and effort to alert the GM and your fellow players of any extra features or rules in action while you play. For example, a berserker barbarian should please state whether they're in a frenzy or regular rage, or state when your first melee attack is reckless. This will also help the GM remind the player if there is any extra damage being missed in-game.
5.) You are responsible for remembering your character's abilities and skills. The GM will try and help where they can, but if some game-altering bonus or ability isn't realized until later the error rests at the foot of the player. The GM is keeping track of literally the rest of the game world, and will not accept responsibility for a player not paying attention to their character's competitive edge.
6.) Please allow every character involved in a scene to post before you post again. If you're waiting on someone to post you can PM them (once, don't spam them) and ask if they want to pass but afterward must wait for them to either post or pass.
7.) Post requirements
---a.) IN COMBAT there is no post limit beyond stating your use of actions and posting your dice rolls at the bottom of your post. In combat is the only place you can use the dreaded one-liners simply to speed along combat, which can drag on in an Rpol game. If you want to post more you absolutely can, and it's encouraged.
---b.) OUT OF COMBAT minimum 1 paragraph per post. If you feel there isn't enough to put into a post you may elect to state you 'pass' in the OOC or Discord chat and wait to post until there is more you can write with. You can then post after the next round of posts.

House Rules:
1.) "Tie goes to the defender" meaning when a roll-off occurs and it's a tie the defender wins the day. Defenders also win tiebreakers with attacks vs AC. This is the reverse of RAW where "meets beats" in a roll-off tie.
2.) "Cleaving through creatures" is an optional rule in RAW (I know, not technically a house rule) where any extra damage to a creature can bleed through into an adjacent enemy should the attacker choose. This optional rule will have much use in this game.

Character Creation

Starting Level
Base level is level 6. If a character dies the new character will be created at the previous character's level -3 but no lower than level 6.

Ability Score Generation
Stat generation is 4d6 drop the lowest, and best 6 rolls out of 7. Any questions ask the GM.

Starting Equipment
Every character will start the game with the starting equipment PLUS 3,000 gp for magical items. Magic item prices are as follows: 20gp for Common, 200gp for Uncommon, and 2000gp for Rare.

Post Headers and Footers
To help the GM and other players keep track of characters as they post there are headers and footers that help when leaving a thread, arriving in a thread, or making ability checks and attack rolls (obviously secret rolls can be made in a private message to the GM). There is an example post bellow showing the aforementioned headers and footers needed.

Example Post

quote:
Entering from thread A

The End rushed over to his books and tomes and searches his bookcase for his mad libs. As he flipped past every book on the shelf he found it in a different book cover, which he wrapped around his treasured mad libs to hide it from dastardly interlopers and completely forgot about it until his hands touched the fabric along the spine. After procuring his dear mad libs The End rushed to his Thread B with unabated glee.

10:46, Today: The End rolled 13 using 1d20+3 ((10))

Exiting to thread B
