Re: The House

Digger starts to reach for Morek to throw hum, then stops himself, looks around, and pulls out the table knife he got upstairs. "Again, learn what 'rest' means, people." He walks up to whatever shadow is handy and sticks the dinnerware into it. Well, he tries too, but he's pretty banged up and can't seem to hit.

OOC:
22:02, Today: Digger rolled 5 using 1d4+2.  knife damage.
22:01, Today: Digger rolled 10 using 1d20+4.  knife attack.

Re: The House

The shade vanishes after Kyra and Sarelor's attacks.  One remains and Morek moves forward to confront it!  It releases a pitiful wail which increases in intensity the closer Morek gets, unable to get away and in obvious torment.

And the last shade falls to Morek's fire!

The din of battle fades and all that remains in the ever-constant crying.

OOC: Nice work getting out of that one...I think you all owe Morek dinner.

Re: The House

Kyra, still sore after the attack, breathed deeply. She was wounded and pale....tbe attack from tbe shadow drained her strength as well as her life.

"No complaints there....some rest would be nice. It's just a comfort this will help" she said, holding the sphere that acted as a spell focus

Are you all intending on just taking a short rest here?  You get the feeling that the room is relatively safe at the moment.

The party sits down amongst the skeletons and the large statue.  Time uneventfully passes, albeit it's hard to doze off with the crying echoing through the cavern.

Feeling fairly rested, the group is ready to set off and continue the adventure!

Kyra, wincing at the aches from the shadow attacks, nods. “The shadows did less physical damage and more drained my strength and essence. Though a decent rest will help, this short one has helped replenish my spells”

Nodding, Sarelor says, "I'm as good as I'm going to get, plus I'm still wondering whether we're captured spirits flailing in futility for the amusement of some powerful being."

Then he shrugs, and admits, "that actually doesn't change anything, does it?"

"Nope," Morek replied before turning to Digger. "Are you fit to return to the lead, or would you rather be in the back?"

Morek then takes position in the one Digger doesn't choose.

Re: The House

After a rest to catch some breath and try to recover a bit, the group moves forward.

As you enter the next room, you find a makeshift, underground bedroom.  A large, wood-framed bed with a rotted feather mattress takes up the bulk of the space.  On the near wall sits a wooden wardrobe and at the foot of the bed is an aged footlocker.  Above the bed, hanging from a taut noose, is the corpse of a man in a black suit.  One of his withered, bony hands clutches a crumpled note.

Sarelor sighs, "could we, at least, looked to see if the corpse wasn't bait for some sort of trap. I'm pretty sure he would have had trouble hanging himself without a platform to kick away from his feet."

Despite any misgivings he might have, he does examine the foot locker hoping to open it and see what's inside.

Re: The House

Kyra takes the note from the corpse's hand and reads aloud:

Note:
My Beloved Children,
I wish I could do what all fathers do and tell you that
monsters aren’t real. But it wouldn’t be true.
Life can create things of exquisite beauty. But it can also
twist them into hideous beings. Selfish. Violent. Grotesque.
Monstrous. It hurts me to say that your mother has turned into
one such monster, inside and out. And I’m afraid the disease
that afflicted her mind has taken hold of me as well.
It sickens me to think what we’ve put you through. There is
no excuse. I only ask of you, though I know I do not have the
right to do so, to try and forgive us. I despise what your
mother has become, but I love and pity her all the same.
Rose, I wish I could see you blossom into a strong, beautiful
woman. Thorn, I wish I could be there for you the way I
couldn't be for Walter. But I can’t. This is what I deserve.
Goodbye

As Morek and Sarelor move forward to search the rest of the room, a foul creature with mottled decaying flesh crawls forth from the wall.  This female-looking creature has sharp claws and teeth and wears a tattered red dress overlain with a black robe.  Her lips and gums have gone black with rot and and her smile shines with sinister madness.  "Come to pay respects to my husband, have you?" she cackles.
