Re: OOC

Great info. I won't give anything a way. But I too dislike Noh.

Re: OOC

Indeed she was!

And actually she used kabuki to employ a lot of the women of the region who had no husbands or homes-- apparently plenty of whom had been involved in prostitution before or maybe while being also kabuki actresses.

The performances were criticized as having almost no plot and being mostly about spectacle and being overly erotic.

But-- as I mentioned, the rival competing theater style was Noh where the whole point was to do as little as possible while giving just enough cues so that those who knew the stories would be able to follow.

And when Kabuki caught on, I guess lots of brothels began getting in on it which meant they were looking to recruit girls who could sing and act as well as well... the usual stuff.

And that's why women were ultimately banned from being actresses in the very style started by a woman. And even today Kabuki is only done by men who play all the roles.

Re: OOC

...which served no purpose, because the young boys employed as onnagata were involved in prostitution too. Which naturally didn't mean women were allowed back into acting, of course not.

The names change, but cultural snobbery is always the same :)

Re: OOC

If I remember correctly from reading Hamlet in my 11th grade English class, there were several societies thst didn't allow women on stage until at least the 19th century. Until then, female roles were played by pre-pubescent boys.

Re: OOC

I've been playing Stardew Valley and wanted to have the NPCs storylines be added as you discover them (rather than have intimate knowledge of strangers).

But if we're going to assume prior knowledge then this won't work. As a result, I've entered in some character bios for the two NPCs you're currently interacting with and here's some info that I'll hopefully make clear in their next turn(s):
- Goro is not poisoned he is just being dramatic.
Asa feel free to return to theatre or venture to pub, inn or elsewhere for accomadation.
- The inn keeper is the inn keeper but I'll give you two options to the old man you are alluding too

I'm more than happy for all of you to split up my response speed will be slower because there's 3x amount of content. At some point, you should all meet as your goals are all very similar and I'm looking forward to seeing the interactions.

Re: OOC

I have forgotten to ask the most important question of them all - what season is it?

Re: OOC

Damn shame...

Im not really up on Japanese history to effectively take over the game which was the original intent.

However, ive always thought about doing a an "Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra" type freeform game - nothing solid but have a few ideas...Its set in an asian/far east fantasy setting so perhaps there's that?

Re: OOC

It all depends on what time period - the time of Aang (which is similar to the time period this game takes place), or the time of Korra (which looks like 1910-1920s Hong Kong or Shanghai).

Re: OOC

Another option - and it would take more work on my part - would involve Korra dying prematurely and the game setting happening more in a 1940s-1960s setting.

The next Avatar would be an Earthbender but where would he/she be born? Earth Kingdom? Republic City? And the search would begin to find the new one!

Re: OOC

Thanks for letting me take over!

Before i get started, i guess i should ask who is in for an "Avatar" type game - those that dont want to do it can hit me up in PM & ill drop you from the game if thats what you wish.

I have 3 ideas and id like the players to decide which one to do...

The time of Aang - Pretty much the setting of Akiwakawa but more fantasy oriented obviously. Not sure if i want to do it before Aang was found in the South Pole or after the 100 year war is over.

The time of Korra - The setting would be in Republic City after the whole Earth Empire incident. Setting is similar to 1920s Hong Kong or Shanghai.

The time of the next Avatar - This option gives me a little more work to pull off; Korra prematurely dies saving the world. The next Avatar will be born as an Earthbender but where? The setting is more 1940s .
