People You Know

As you get to know more people I'll add them to this list thread with little bios explaining what the group has learned so far. This will be from the perspective of what is common knowledge, so not everything will be correct. Rumors will be listed with the person that the rumors relate to.
Sir Aektor Warrick
NPC, 1 post
Stern and Fair
Master of the Village

  • msg #2

People You Know

Sir Aektor Warrick is on the taller side standing just above six feet in height. He is a Knight in service to Baron Khulvan. Due to many years of good service he was granted this village as his personal fief and has ruled here for the past fifteen years. He is known to be stern, yet fair, with a strong sense of duty. He has maintained himself in fighting shape and made sure that there are opportunities for the young people of the village to train with simple weapons so that they are ready to defend their homes.

His laws and taxes are reasonable, but he is very strict about them. More that a few people, rich and poor alike, have spend a day and night in the pillory for withholding tax money or trying to lie about what they owe. He also strictly upholds the laws about weight when selling goods. Merchants who are caught putting lead weights in their bread or other goods also spend time in the local pillory to remind them and the community of the importance of honesty.

Rumors
He is a distant relation of Baron Khulvan. They don't actually get along well.
He is keeping a mistress on the side.
A traveling minstrel had an affair with his wife. The minstrel is buried in an oubliette in the manor house basement.
Dame Rowena Warrick

  • msg #3

People You Know

Dame Rowena earned her title through service to Baron Khulvan nearly twenty years ago. She is a cleric in service to the nature god Obad-Hai and a firm believer in the power of Good and Love to overcome all obstacles.

In the past fifteen years, alongside her husband, she has made sure that the people of the village are well looked after.

She has sponsored a school and a small library for the few people who want to learn how to read and do maths.

Her gardening contests have helped encourage beauty in the village throughout the spring and summer months. She has also ensured that festivals and fairs and festivals are celebrated with fanfare even when times are lean.

Local poets, artists, and crafters have had their work displayed in Warrick House when visitors come and she is always careful to drop the name of the creator to her guests.

Rumors
She once had an affair with a traveling minstrel. Edmond was the result.
She and her husband are quietly feuding over him keeping a mistress.
She misses the life of an adventuring cleric and wants to leave.
Dame Kirsten Warrick
NPC, 1 post
Eldest Warrick Child
A bit of a snob.

  • msg #4

People You Know

She is the eldest child of Aektor and Rowena Warrick. As such she was raised to be strong and wise so that she could become a knight and serve Baron Khulvan. She will also stand to inherit the family lands, including the village, upon the death or retirement of her father and mother.

Dame Kirsten was trained from the age of six on how to fight, ride, and rule. She is incredibly self assured, even rude, because she knows that this will happen. This caused no shortage of feuds between her siblings and herself. She is used to getting her way in those struggles due to her superior education in the law and combat.

Last spring she was granted her Knighthood by Baron Khulvan and also took part in a tournament. She won more than she lost, and is very proud of this. When not beside her father learning the ways of war and law she can be found in the yard of Warrick House honing her skills against her youngest brother Edmond.

Rumors
When she was younger she killed a stable boy by accident while training with the lance.
She is blessed by the gods and cannot lose when it matters.
Her mother is pushing her to get married and give her grandchildren
Issek Warrick
NPC, 1 post
Bookish Type
Acolyte of Obad-Hai
Fri 26 Mar 2021
at 21:26
  • msg #5

People You Know

As the second child of Aektor and Rowena Warrick Issek was destined from a young age to join a church. Raised with this expectation since birth he never had time to consider a different path, and it was no surprise to anyone when he left home at the age of ten to journey to the Hrothbolt Monastery and become an acolyte of Obad-Hai. He has returned to the village from time to time since then to visit his family and celebrate feast days. While not quite a stranger he is no longer well known.

Rumors
He is a terrible holy man. That's why he isn't a full Cleric yet.
He always needs money due to a gambling problem.
He can turn into a wolf at night.
Edmond Warrick
NPC, 1 post
The Middle Warrick
He's a bit of a flake.

  • msg #6

People You Know

Edmond Warrick is the third child of Aektor and Rowena Warrick. Given that Kirsten has survived her training and become a Knight Edmond is no longer pressured to follow that route. In fact, Warrick House probably couldn't afford to support three knights on top of the servants and Men at Arms. So, he is given an allowance, a tutor, and told to make something of himself.

Edmond avoided becoming a rake or wastrel through the careful teaching of his mother and father. He is a terrible flirt, meaning terrible at it. However, he uses his humor to try and make friends wherever he goes. This, coupled with some musical talent and the encouragement of his mother, has turned him into something of a showman and entertainer.

Rumors
He is the son of a traveling mistral that visited his mother some twenty years ago.
He fell in love with a farmer's daughter, but they moved away before he found out how she felt.
Once, ten years ago, he got caught stealing a chicken. He was severely punished, but in private, so that Sir Aektor could save face.
Doveth Harrow
NPC, 1 post
Sergeant at Arms
Head of the Militia

  • msg #7

People You Know

Doveth is an earthy fellow who arrived at the village with Sir Aektor. He is the Sergeant at Arms and in charge of the Men at Arms that follow the Warrick Banner. Due to the nature of his work he is known to be gruff and graceless.

He is married with a twelve year old daughter, and she has him wrapped around her little finger. The only time he is known to smile is when she is around.

Around the village he also serves as the leader of the Militia. He has trained most of the young men and women how to use simple weapons in self defense. He also makes sure that those with promise get brought to Sir Aektor's attention if they want a job as a Man, or Woman, at Arms. In the few times when an execution has been called for Doveth has been the one to carry it out to make sure that the cut is quick and clean.

Rumors
He has killed more than thirty people in his life. Most of them before coming to the village.
He knows something about the Warricks that would bring them grate shame.
When nobody else is looking he showed great affection and joy towards his wife and child.

  • msg #8

People You Know

There is only one 'store' in the village. "Hedra's How'sits" is a medium building off of the village square. Here this scarred woman sells a wide selection of items ranging from cloth, to tools, to seeds and grain. She keeps the shop clean and chases off any would-be swindlers or thieves.

When not selling goods to local crafters, or selling the crafter's work to traveling merchants, she can also be found at the "Bear's Head" tavern telling stories of her days as an adventurer along side Sir Aektor, Dame Rowena, and Doveth. To hear her tell it she was the brains of the group and managed to constantly get them out of trouble.

Rumors
She used to be a thief, but Sir Aektor pardoned her.
She has a secret stash of special items that she sells to a select clientele.
Beneath her shop there is a great big chest of gold.
Kensa Craddick

  • msg #9

People You Know

The elder of the Craddick sisters Kensa took over running the 'Bear's Head' tavern after their parents died last winter. She has taken the loss better than most expected and poured herself into her work as a tavern owner and brewer. All of the drinks served at the 'Bear's Head' tavern were made by her and her parents.

When serving drinks Kensa is a happy person with an excited smile who encourages people to tell each other stories. Anyone who tells a really good story, true or not, has a chance to get a free drink. Outside of her work little is known about her. This is partially because she almost never stops working.

Rumors
She secretly hates her job.
She has secretly fallen in love with someone and is waiting for them to notice.
She spies on her patrons and sells the information to Sir Aektor.

People You Know

Known to most people as "Day" she is the younger of the two Craddick sisters. Her parents sent her to a Fortress Convent dedicated to Heironeous. She took to the lessons on reading and writing. Yet, she failed to dedicate herself to the martial pursuits that Mother Superior demanded of her. About five years ago she returned to the village. Once there she discovered her true passion for teaching.

Starting with the youngest Warrick, she soon received the blessing of Dame Rowena to start teaching other children from the village. The Warricks support her with a modest budget that she often spends on slates, chalk, and what few books traveling merchants offer for sale. Her passion for the task has won over several of the townspeople and her small class is growing, even though they can only meet once a week due to the demands of fieldwork. In her cottage she maintains a small library of books, nearly three dozen volumes, that she has collected over the years. She rarely lends them out, but has been known let people into her home so that they can read and join her for tea.

Rumors
She knows how to read and write in several languages.
She was kicked out of the Convent.
One of her books teaches dark arcane secrets that could get her hanged if it was ever found.

Cleric to Obad-Hai

  • msg #11

People You Know

This aged man is the Cleric in charge of the small Church to Obad-Hai that stands near the village square. He has been in the village for as long as anyone can remember, and everyone remembers him as an old man. He is most often seen in his robes with a long stemmed pipe in his hand and one eyebrow raised.

While he has welcomed "Young Miss Day" as a fellow educator and permitted her to hold her classes within his church he doesn't engage with her students very much. He says that teaching is a job for the young, and refuses to stand in her way, except to make sure that she avoids teaching too much about the evil gods like Hextor. This is an old argument between the two of them.

Rumors
He is over a hundred years old.
He has long ago gone senile and people just put up with him.
Loveday is secretly related to him somehow.

People You Know

He is a slightly awkward younger man who is good at two things. Taking care of bees, and growing pipe-weed. Because of these two occupations he makes a modest living in the village and has been thinking about starting a family. He's also a fair cook, but doesn't like to talk about it. He is all around a happy person who enjoys his work. When not working he can be commonly found in the Bear's Head sampling the mead made with his honey and smoking a pipe.

Rumors
He is sweet on Kensa, but doesn't want to say anything because she isn't interested.
He is the smartest man in the village.
He is part halfling.

People You Know

Peter Candid is one of the wealthiest people of the village, outside of the Warricks, and very proud of it. He gets his wealth from owning three of the fishing boats that operate out of the village. He is also talking about building a fourth boat to get into the merchant business. Most people know him as someone who puts on airs and attempts to talk to Sir Aektor like a social equal.

Rumors
He is trying to get his eldest son to marry Dame Kirsten Warrick. It isn't going well.
His wife left him two years ago due to his pride and controlling nature. He says she is taking a pilgrimage to a far away shrine.
He is deeply in debt to strange individuals who visit his house at night and hide their faces.

  • msg #14

People You Know

Three years ago this short stocky figure walked into the village and took over the abandoned smithy. Few know where he came from or if he has any family. Anyone who questions him tends to get assaulted by a series of jokes so awful that they are driven away. However, his metalwork is of a higher quality than what a village smithy usually boasts. He can make anything from tools and nails to weapons, armor, and jewelry. Sir Aektor often consults him when an improvement to the village is planned. He is among the few people Wiglaf talks to without the stream of bad jokes.

Rumors
He doesn't pay any taxes.
He took over the smithy without permission and nobody dares tell him to leave.
There is a dark secret in his past, and he is hiding here to escape it.
Baron Sigrid Khulvan
NPC, 1 post
Baron of the Region
In Castle Dhunraven

  • msg #15

People You Know

Baron Sigrid Khulvan was a mountain of a man when he was younger. Growing older has reduced the mass of muscles that he used to boast to a size that would still look respectable on a man of half his years. He rules the land from the stone castle that lies several days walk to the North of the village.

He is reputed to be a fair noble with a streak of practicality that is rare in those born to power. He maintains a sizable force of soldiers as well as knights and lesser nobles. These serve to patrol the roads and boarders of his lands and keep the worst of the brigands and monsters at bay during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. During winter the slows often fall so thick that only the most brave or foolish will try the roads to travel any great distance so patrols are scarce.

Once every three years Baron Khulvan takes part in a council of the region's nobles. During this Thing the nobles discuss boarder disputes, resolve feuds, hear petitions from each other, and generally try to hold their loosely organized country together. The Baron is said to be very proud of the trade agreement his people reached with the orc clans living to the north. This is expected to be a boon to his reputation and influence in the council that is coming up this Spring.

Rumors
He is secretly a werebear.
He is currently feuding with Baron Beoric, his neighbor to the East who rules over a coastal region and covets the wealth of trade goods that exist in Baron Khulvan's lands.
He wasn't born a noble. Instead he started out as a farmer who became an adventurer and earned his lands by conquering the previous Baron who was a cruel despot.
Alaine Duval
NPC, 1 post
Andrea's Father
Head of the Duvals
Wed 31 Mar 2021

  • msg #16

People You Know

Current patriarch of the extended Duval family Alaine is a serious minded man with a keen sense of duty. Duty to the gods, duty to his family, duty to his liege lord and lastly duty to himself.

Years ago he followed the family tradition of joining the forces of Baron Khulvan's family when war threatened with one of their neighbors. He doesn't talk about the specifics of what happened during that campaign with anyone outside of the family. However, when it was finished he gathered together the scattered Duvals who lived in the area into one homestead. They were joined by new family members. War-orphans, former prisoners of war, and lone comrades too wounded to continue the fight all found themselves embraced and adopted into the Duval family.

As suits the leader of such an eclectic group of individuals Alaine has developed a tough but loving attitude towards life and hardship. His children were encouraged to learn lessons the hard way, but always helped back to their feet once the lesson was over. This helped to breed capable individuals who understood the importance of looking out for and supporting each other without compromising the respect and honor of each other. Family dinners at the Homestead are warm and rowdy affairs with jests and light-hearted insults thrown about without a care.

Rumors
It was only his lack of noble birth or title that prevented Alaine from being given leadership of the village.
He once spent three days and nights on Blackrock Isle. He doesn't talk about it.
He is very fond of mead.

People You Know

Andrea's mother is a formidable woman both on and off the battlefield. She long ago learned that the weapon someone doesn't see is the most deadly, and has put that into practice in her own life ever since. It is effective with both swords, and with words.

She has no lack of love for her family, even as it has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. There are few of the Duvals who haven't turned to her for advice or support on one matter or another.

Rumors
She is carefully setting up the younger generations with people in and around the village to make sure that there is a Duval in every family. Her next target is the Warricks.
Even though her husband is the head of the family nothing happens that she doesn't approve of behind the scenes.
She is originally from the lands belonging to Baron Beoric and returned with Alaine after one of his campaigns having already married him.

People You Know

Not far from the village square, but down a side street easy to miss if someone isn't looking for it, there is a small cottage with a sign in front depicting a tower. Inside this nondescript cottage lives Hogan Duval. He is a man of medium height who is just beginning his middle years. He is commonly clean shaven, but keeps his dark hair long.

Hogan is Alaine's much younger brother and joined the village some years after the Homestead had been founded. He lived there for many years while he finished growing up. He is known to have some small ability with magic which he uses to help those villagers who are in need, or can afford it. He is most commonly visited by those who have precious family items that the smith cannot repair.

During the past two years he has started helping Loveday teach the younger generations about reading, writing, and maths. Most of his help centers around creating minor illusions to help demonstrate what Loveday is teaching during a lesson. He has also been consulted by others in the village on matters that relate to the arcane arts.

Rumors
He can't hold his liquor.
He and Loveday are seeing each other as more than just teaching partners.
There is a book with a black cover hidden in his house. It is a repository of Black Magic that could bring doom down upon the whole village.

People You Know

Tormon was once deemed one of the most handsome men in the village, and he hasn't lost his charm with age. However, his attention remains focused upon his family. Ever since the untimely death of his wife Tormon has done his best to fill his children's lives with the love and support that they need. The shadows of grief are still sometimes visible in his eyes, especially in recent years as he has watched his daughter grow and change into a young woman with no maternal figure to guide her through those difficult adolescent years.

A devoted father and family man, Tormon has done his best to teach his children both how to care for the family farm, and how to keep the house itself. Their lives are simple, but filled with wholesome values of respect for family, the land, and the right of a person to follow their heart. Because of this he has not only allowed each of his children to find their own path when chores allow, but even quietly helped them along their chosen paths.

Rumors
He is very protective of Cinnaii, and more than one would-be suiter has been chased off by his intensity.
He blames himself for his wife's death.
While he has considered getting married again so far none of the available women his age have gotten through his built up emotional defenses.

People You Know

As the eldest of the Littleford children Herek has striven to take in all of the lessons his father offers to them. He is considered by many to be nearly a younger version of his father with only slightly lighter hair. This has led him to being rather popular, and he hates it.

Herek loves the family farm. He has learned every row in the fields, every hiding spot in the barns and sheds, and the best places to locate the straw-men they use to frighten away the ravens and crows. He looks forward to continuing the family legacy on into the next generation, but has also taken it upon himself to 'help' his younger sister find her future, whatever that may be.

Rumors
Herek once drank so much that he passed out in the middle of the field and didn't wake up until the next morning. Since then he has barely touched a drop of ale.
He is smitten with Loveday, and she isn't interested.
He has secretly traded valuable food and goods from the farm to get blank books for Cinnaii without telling her where they come from.

People You Know

As the middle child Hendar has had a difficult time finding his way in life. He loves the farm, but knows that it will go to his older brother. This has led to something of a dissonance within his spirit. He does his best to hide it, but it is clear to many in the village that he is a man who doesn't know what to do with his life.

The one thing that he, his father, and brother agree on is that Cinnaii is their princess. He has joined with the other men in the family on 'interviewing' her male friends on more than one occasion. Very few have made the cut. When he isn't working on the farm, worrying about his sister, or trying to think up a way to earn a farm of his own, he is often found at the Bear's Head tavern drinking away his frustrations. This has recently begun to develop into something of a problem. It is only a matter of time before he ends up in the pillory...

Rumors
He has found a treasure map that leads to one of the local landmarks.
There is another darker reason why he drinks, but no one knows what it is.
He is on the verge of getting kicked out of the house because of his drinking habits. His father is at his wits end.

People You Know

Andrea's younger sister is a mischievous girl of nearly eighteen winters. She grew up instilled with the Duval sense of duty and responsibility, however, she also enjoyed a level of pampering and indulgence that Andrea didn't. This has given her an independent streak a mile wide.

She often wears clothing suitable for outdoor travel and hunting and is rarely far from her bow. Her red hair is sometimes tied back with a leather strap, otherwise she leaves it to flow around her shoulders. When not working on the Homestead Milla can be found hunting in the outskirts of the Black Forest and learning how to tan hides into leather.

Rumors
She is infatuated with Alwain and pursues him relentlessly.
Her trips into the fringes of the Black Forest have grown longer and longer recently. Is she doing more in the forest than just hunting?
She was recently seen shopping for hair accessories and looking at dresses. Is she ill?
