Ah, yes, It all started with a transformation of my favorite steed, Stella, into a donkey. But I, Jaxon, the Bold Knight, was not worried for I knew what to do.  I tightened the saddle, redistributed the weight and mounted my faithful stead.  Then with all haste, for though she was now a donkey, she was still trained and we headed for the Temple to see if the transformation could be undone.

Istvan the Pirate Captain's Son...

--An old book/scroll/map
--A message from the divine
--Some treasure
--Persuading someone
--Being very stealthy
Disadvantages:
--One or more monsters
--A tempting temptation
--A trap

11:48, Today: The GM rolled 34 using 1d39 ((34)).
11:50, Today: The GM rolled 8 using 2d6 ((5,3)).

"After that," said Istvan, "we did something that involved: keeping watch!

It was a long way to the temple, and Stella didn't gallop like she used to... so we had to camp for the night. I took first watch so that Jaxon could get some sleep and watch the second half of the night... It didn't go perfectly, because I guess the spot I picked was too close to a creek with some stagnant pools... we were both swatting mosquitos all night..."

After that we did something that involved: A transformation

*sighs* After that when I awoke from my turn on watch, Stella has transformed again.  This time she was now a large wolf and I again adjusted the saddle and bags, but gave her some of the left over meat.  She howled into the dark and I pet her to comfort her.  All things considered, the horse was taking these transformations well.  But I had to keep an eye on her, as she kept eyeing Istvan like a snack until the morning.

"At the temple, things didn't get much better. The monks that ran it did have a useful gift for us-- a Collar of Peace. While she wore it, Stella wouldn't attack her friends, and it would help her with hunger pangs, too. But they only had one suggestion for curing Stella's transformation-- to drink from the natural spring found within The Grotto of Order, famous for restoring things to their natural state and keeping them that way. But path to the Grotto was through The Swamp of Ruin, and no one even knew if it the Grotto was even in the swamp, or somewhere on the other side!"

After that we did something that involved: One or more monsters

After receiving that news, we headed out to find the The Grotto of Order through the The Swamp of Ruin.  Bust as luck would have it, we were beset by wild swamp beasts.  For five days and five nights, we treked through the swamp and I beat back the beasts. On the 5th day, we were attacked by the beast pack leader.  It was a harrowing fight, but in the end after blocking, dodging and weaving, I took the beasts head!  That night, were we not bothered by beasts and I slept like the dead.

"In the morning, Jaxon and I were awakened by a ratling. 'Call myself Taker of Treasure, I do,' said the ratling. 'Will be great thief, yes. Will be greatest ratling thief ever, remembered by ratlings for all time. Will join your party on your quest, I will...'

'Sure, you can come along, Taker of Treasure,' I said. 'Who knows but that a thief might come in handy.' Then I realized that I really probably should've asked Jaxon what he thought, first. He might not have liked having a ratling self-confessed thief along for our journey. But it was too late..."

10:32, Today: phantom rolled 5 using 1d39 ((5)).
10:33, Today: phantom rolled 5 using 2d6 ((1,4)).
After that we did something that involved: A Magic Item

I awake to see that are party grew by one ratling.  I sighed and asked "Why at Ratling thief, Istvan?"  Not expecting an answer. We broke camp and continued on our way.  As we traveled, with Istvan and I in the lead, leaving Wolf Stella and Taker of Treasure to follow.  When suddenly Stella roars and there is a loud crunching sound.  We turn to see that Taker of Treasure is now Tasty Treat as he could not resist taking Stella's shiny collar.  I look at Istvan with a look of concern.

OOC: That set things up really well!

"As the morning wore on," Istvan continued, "our path took us very close to some sort of mostly-fallen-down old ruin long-abandoned to be slowly claimed by the moss and ivy of the swamp... As we attempted to silently pass it, bullywugs-- that's toad-men, for those of you not well-versed in your swamp-being-ology-- popped out from hiding amongst the ruin, and they started tossing javelins at us! I took one through my left arm-- owwwww!"

11:29, Today: phantom rolled 10 using 2d6+2 ((4,4)).
After that we did something that involved: Melee

Seeing Istvan hit and still stinging from the lost of Taker of Treasure, I gave a battle cry and charged into the Bullwugs.  I was quickly surrounded, but I continue to hack and slash my way through these fiendish foes. With great swings of my sword, blocks with my shield, I held my ground and slowly push them back.  Finally after what seemed like hours, the Bullywugs retreated leaving five of their dead behind. Once the threat passed, I rushed back to Istvan.

10:12, Today: The GM rolled 26 using 1d39 with rolls of 26.
A definite victory
10:12, Today: The GM rolled 10 using 2d6 ((5,5)).

Then more bullywugs swarmed in from the other side of the path. They targeted Sir Jaxon (and Stella), attempting to overwhelm and capture them, while their leader decided to deal with Istvan.

But the leader's spear was no match for Istvan's rapier and the sword-tricks his pirate father had taught him, and soon the bullywug chieftain surrendered.

The bullywugs were shamed, and had to apply bandages and poultices too Istvan's left arm, and to lead Sir Jaxon and Istvan (and Stella) safely to the far side of the swamp...

(That's it for round 5... two more rounds to go (for each of us)...)

Aster that, as we exited the swamp a bullwug stayed behind.  It was kinda of small compared to the others, but it carried a spear and axe like the other warriors we had faced.  It came forward and I true my sword and went into an en garde stance prepared to defend myself. But the Bullwug planted its spear and kneeled before us.  It then made hand gestures indicated that it wanted to journey with us or at least that is what I thought.  I looked at Istvan and shrugged.  I sheathed my sword and turn my back to the Bullywug.  It stood, picked up its spear and started to follow us.  And thus our group grew by one.

"The land sloped upward, and we entered the mountains. Here, we were beset by air elementals that whirled sticks and thorn branches at us so fast that they cut us when they hit. They ripped my arm open again, but the bullywug knew a charm that banished them, and their crude missiles were nothing to Sir Jaxon's armor. So we definitely won, but I hoped that the strange structure visible on the path up ahead would contain, at the very least, friendly people who could do more for my arm..."

Unfortunately, we could not make it to the strange structure before the end of the day.  So we set about making camp.  The Bullwug has proving himself, so we including him on watch.  With Istvan's injury, I figured it was best he rest, so the Bullywug and I would stand watch.  Showing my trust, I let the Bullywug to take first watch.
When it woke me for my watch, he had managed to defeat 3 prowling wolves by himself with such precision that it didn't wake us.  I took my watch and nothing else bothered us.  We all faced the day fully refreshed.

"The bizarre building turned out to be the Temple of Transformation, dedicated to Abriog, the demigod of transformation. His cult, surely, was responsible for Stella's transformations, whether on purpose or randomly.

There were too many cultists to fight... but swordplay wasn't the only thing my famous pirate father had taught me. Using the utmost stealth, I led my allies through the halls of the temple, to its heart-- the treasure room, where lay the mystical Topaz of Transformation, and the cult's treasures, gained from using it to transform lead into gold...

With the Topaz removed from the hand of the statue of Abriog, Stella returned to her normal equine self, and we filled sacks with gold and tied it to her saddle... then we were discovered!

We climbed on Stella and raced through the halls to freedom... but when we got to safety, we found that the gold had turned back into lead... too bad! At least the Topaz of Transformation transformed too, into ashes that scattered in the wind... So off we went, to find a proper healer for my arm..."
