Re: 2. OOC: Chat Thread!

Player One:
I am considering rolling for my career or picking up something exciting;-)

But it's a good point, Lukas. GM, are we considering a more rural or a more urban campaign here?

That's a good question, and I've actually being trying to make up my mind on where to start. Seeing what you guys come up with is helping!

The 'official' 2e campaign is called Paths of the Damned which begins in a small Middenland village before moving on to nearby Middenheim. If we play that one both 'local' rural characters and more urban and/or exotic characters could fit. The village was cut off during the Storm of Chaos (a massive but ultimately defeated invasion of Middenland by Chaos armies in the recent past) so anyone might have been 'trapped' in the village.

I'm sort of in two minds about running Paths of the Damned though, for two reasons. The first is that it is as I said partly set in Middenheim and I don't want to thread on your toes Player One since I know we are heading there in 'The Enemy Within'. The second is that it plays into the Storm of Chaos background and while the Storm itself has passed I know some of you aren't too fond of that part of the background (and even I might tweak it to be... less apocalyptic.) On the other hand it does have the advantage of being a proper linked campaign that was designed for newer players and moves about a bit.

Alternately there are a few fun looking adventures (both published and fan made) that I could try instead but they aren't part of an extended campaign so we'd be more seeing as we go along and I'd be bringing in more of my own material. (eep!)

Howdy player one and player two. :)

Re: 2. OOC: Chat Thread!

From my brief reading of the intro of Paths of the Damned (I tried to avoid spoilers!), there is very little reference to The Enemy Within in the actual story. There is some background being mentioned, but only in passing and some knowledge of the Middenheim should not be a problem.

Or we can just try with an independent adventure and see where would that take us!

Another question, GM. You mentioned the Career Compendium in RTJ thread. Does it mean that instead of rolling for a career based on the core rulebook tables we are allowed to roll for that extensive list from the Career Compendium?

Re: 2. OOC: Chat Thread!

Absolutely if you like Player One you can roll on the Career Compendium list instead.

Thanks for clarifying the Middenheim situation Also I found a stash of 2nd edition fan made adventures so we have a lot to choose from!

Yep! Some of them look really fun too. :)

I'm looking for maybe four or five players overall so I'm tentatively checking a few other games to see if anyone is interested. Four could absolutely work though.

It appears that a dwarf ex-convict would be joining the party! Beware of his short temper!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! All good, I should have the character ready by the end of the week (meaning that the worst case scenario - I'll have it ready on Monday).

2. OOC: Chat Thread!

Happy St Patrick's Day to you mate!

The short version is I am okay, the long version is a 1,000 word rant and plea for sympathy / new job :)

Joking aside, I'll give the 2e character generation rules a good read through over the next day or so, get Lukas rolled up properly and pull an initial hook together for why he is adventuring then he should be ready to be dropped in anywhere :)

And a big hello to Player 3 and Player 4!

It's beginning to look like our band of adventurers is going to lack a wizard or barber-surgeon. Luckily the chances of hostile magic or injury are really remote.

Re: 2. OOC: Chat Thread!

I'm going to wait another few days to let you guys get your characters in order. As always if you have any questions direct them at me. :)

So far we have a dwarf, a halfling, a Kislevite and a human charcoal-burner from the Empire. That's an interesting mix that could sort of fit in anywhere (well maybe not high society.)

I know I'm definitely leaning towards certain adventures but I think I could do some work adapting locations if anyone wants a particular location (within reason - setting a game in Lustria, Ulthuan or Naggaroth might just stretch my plagiarism talents a might too far.)

2. OOC: Chat Thread!

Just rolled up Lukas for my first ever 2e character.  As a long time 1e player it feels like buying a 'new' pair of shoes that feel a bit funny when you try them on but you know are going to be just fine and fit just right moving forwards (not that I am chucking out the battered trainers of 1e just yet :) )

Heck I've a lot of fondness for 1e and I'll be mixing in some of the lore from that edition! :)

Looking good people. I aim to start properly early next week.

Re: 2. OOC: Chat Thread!

The 'Common Knowledge' thread is information all your characters will know as citizens of the Empire (or will have quickly picked up in the case of Fyodor). It is not the whole story and parts may even be inaccurate but that is what experience is for... ;)

Re: 2. OOC: Chat Thread!

Okay, kicking things up a notch.

I've just posted some brief info on Untergard, the Middenland village where we will beginning the Paths of the Damned Campaign. Consult it!

I'll give everyone until Tuesday to finish up everything before we begin actual play. Lukas, you are probably a local but the rest of you will have various reasons why you might have ended up in Untergard before the beastmen and mutants attacked, which could be as simple as passing through en-route to somewhere else.

You can discuss whether and how you know each other here before we kick in or field any questions to me. :)

2. OOC: Chat Thread!

I am envisioning that Lukas made a living in the forests near Interfaces, maybe even on the (relatively) quieter fringes of the Drakwald.  Even though the attack by the beastmen was a surprise attack Lukas may have been involved with a terrifying flight to the safety of the town when the attack was coming.  Of course when he got there the town was not really a place of safety!

He was likely involved with the defence of the town and survived through luck, hard work and doing what he was told when someone important shouted it.  He was not a warrior but could swing an axe at a beastman when he had too and also run and hide when things got to much.

In good times he traded charcoal in the town so some locals may have known him but living out in the woods with his kiln he wasn't particularly involved in society as such.

In the after effects of the battle his skills were helpful, especially sourcing fuel from the ruins - a useful skill with a displaced populace finding their feet again.  Now the town has less than a hundred inhabitants he will be viewed as 'one of us now'.

I imagine characters from the town will be known to Lukas, maybe if Harkrin has been involved in any rebuilding (because yeah... dwarfs) Lukas may have helped with basic labouring tasks.

If anyone needs a friend from 'saving/being saved from certain death' there is a chance you were in the right/wrong place to stop a beastman's gore.

All of the above is off the top of my head  and we can adapt as we see fit for our reasons to be together.
