It is a white raven yes.  The picture is almost certainly an albino one, but the familiar is not afflicted with the albino problems, just the coloration.

Generally speaking the story takes place with the school as a background, setting, and excuse for unusual confluences of events.  You don't actually have classes that need active characters in them.
