Dark Arts is not taught at Hogwarts but is off campus in Hogsmeade for 3rd years and over for 1 Galleon a class includes tutoring.

Greetings everyone, Aarifa reporting in, hope you don't mind me being the first player to post, out of curiosity will we be going through the sorting ceremony or do we assume we've already been sorted?  If anyone has any questions about my character by all means ask,

Well Alice, I suppose my first question would be, which house did you select? Followed by, personality and things Alice looks for in a friend? :P

Alice is a Hufflepuff, the same as I am according to the Pottermore quiz. She is bubbly and energetic, not one to cause much trouble but no one can behave all the time. ;) Qualities she looks for in a friend would be friendliness, loyalty, maybe a bit of mischievousness to balance her out a bit. Things like that. Also someone she might be able to become study buddies with.

Sounds good to me Aarifa. I'm excited to try this system, all the other Hogwarts or Harry Potter games I've been in have been freeform. I like freeform, but I like systems as well. So what house is Aarifa in?

I've yet to find another harry potter game :P so I'm just happy to rp Harry potter, since most of my GMs aren't harry potter fans.

I've had one setup to go, a freeform game, but I'm such a horrible GM I don't really want to run it.

I don't know, I might try it sometime. The only way to get better at GM'ing is to try right? And it's a freeform game, so no system or experience or such to keep track of which makes thing easier.

I find that more often than not the lack of a system makes freeform games harder to run, because there are no guidelines or structure that help the GM keep the game consistent.

Trys is a Ravenclaw; when I originally wrote him he was a Slytherin, but an atypical one and that tends to work much better with freeform games. :) He's a 4th year, fairly popular despite a reputation for being a little weird. Friendly, laid-back, and rarely has a mean word to say about anyone, at least not in English.

As an example I have included a picture of my familiar in my description.  In addition to being a bit easier to format the description has the advantage of being easier to find later, long after any particular thread has scrolled on.

It is a white raven yes.  The picture is almost certainly an albino one, but the familiar is not afflicted with the albino problems, just the coloration.

Some Alumns are about to fill spots Mr and Mrs Longbottom, a Weasley to plug in where needed. Professor Malfoy teaches DADA.

hmmm here's a question, what does 1 in ancient runes give me? since I'm working with Hieroglyphs, can i make anything with that or is it just an understanding?

It's useful to learn some Ancient Magicif high enough like Egyptian Tomb Curses and making mummy guadians if high.

Generally speaking the story takes place with the school as a background, setting, and excuse for unusual confluences of events.  You don't actually have classes that need active characters in them.

Two game history questions: Did all the Harry Potter book/movie events happen in the not-so-distant past? And, outside of the whole magic thing, is the world the world of today (Covid, Brexit, etc.)?

Around 20 years ago, the Third war ended a decade ago when the four realms of magic arose and fought several magical governments and won this included Atlantis, Avalon, Dark Feywild and Xanadu and each is the hub of all magic if they decide magic can be shut off they did this to stop the attacks against them.

And yes. But magical potions and spells fight Covid well.

Ouch. I hope you recover well. Some friends who got it had no problems, while others were down and out for a week, and some others were more intermittent but still bad. Do whatever you need to to get healthy.
