OOC ~ The King's Hall

Greetings Sir Gerod!

If you have an opening for a retainer, then I'm your Viking girl bard.  Happy to hand you a weapon in tournaments and to lend my other skills to your cause.

OOC ~ The King's Hall

Greetings and well met!

I can think of no better companion upon the road to Camelot than a capable bard to life our spirits and tell tales of our accomplishments!

I have a pretty good idea of what traits I'll take, but just in case I'll review them after work today and make final adjustments. Then I'll post a description.

Storyteller, how in depth do you want us to be with our backgrounds?

I'll share what I have so far. It is the same information that I posted in the RTJ, but Gerod wouldn't exactly be secretive about where he came from. ;)

Sir Gerod Angrave is a poor, young, and passionate knight known more for his strong arm then for his quick wits. However, he is determined to make it to Camelot and prove himself worthy of serving King Arthur.

His father was a landed knight from the far north of the kingdom, close to the Orkney Islands, and he studied under a local baron to earn his spurs. However, his family couldn't afford to buy him new armor so he wears his father's old gear and rides a simple, but acceptable, brown mare.

Torah, how do you imagine that our characters met each other?

You can be as in-depth with your backgrounds as you like, though of course, I reserve the right to exploit any details you give me for use in future Episodes. >:)

Being a raider's orphan, Torah could have been taken in by your father.  She could have grown up in his fiefdom's village and looked to return the debt by accompanying Gerod on his travels.  Perhaps they have met a few times prior to Gerod's pilgrimage?  Simple but effective :)

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

As an option, I do have a system-agnostic tool we could use that I've been wanting to try out. It may help us to flesh things out a bit between your characters, and it won't omit or replace anything you've already decided about your background and relationships.

It's called Decuma; it draws cards from a Tarot deck and presents questions that you'll answer about your characters and details about the setting.

It may take us a few posts to get through it since it involves each of us drawing cards and collaboratively answering the questions they pose, but if you're interested in trying it out, I'd love to use it.

However, if you'd prefer just to get right into the game and figure details out as we go, that would be fine, as well.

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

Willing to give the deck a go, if you handle all the carddrawing and then pose the questions/scenarios.

I’ll check back in later to see what you have.

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

Agreed. I enjoy using elements like this because they inspire ideas that I probably wouldn’t have on my own.

Also, Torah, what you’ve posted thus far makes good sense. That’s a good simple starting point. If we don’t get better ideas from the card drawings I’m cool with running with that idea.

Here's a copy of the latest edition of the rulebook if anyone doesn't have it.

Here's a copy of the Episode book too.

I have a copy of both the old book, the new book, and the Episode book so I'd rather just spread the word.

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

Great find! I may need to put in a bid on one of those. It would be nice to have a physical copy of the book.

I compiled the last few card draws in the Decuma session into one post. You'll have a few questions to answer at once, but I admit I'm eager to get to the game itself so I didn't want to draw the session out for too long.

Happy Easter to you as well.

I'll also post later today. I'm trying to think of something that isn't a cliché or overly simplistic. ;)

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

So I'm guessing we will be rolling d2 dice instead of throwing coins.  Will 'Heads' be a 1 or a 2?

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

Was there anything else we needed to do?

I'm hosting friends for tabletop based stuff for the next 2+ days from tomorrow, so don't expect rapid responses.  I'm sure I'll be able to sneak in posts here and there.

No worries - everything's done on your part. I've just been putting together how I want to start us off. I'll be posting a proper first turn you can both respond to later today.

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

It has such a positive feeling to it even when dealing with serious topics. I love how it incorporates Chaucer and his famous characters as well as other historical figures. The music is also fantastic. I love how it uses modern music to communicate the feeling that the music of the time would give the characters instead of trying to use period music that the modern audience might not understand.

However, the music of the time is also fun when you can find groups that re-create it.

Re: OOC ~ The King's Hall

Storyteller, do you want me to post something describing Gerod doing decent on the dance and performing in front of people? Or, do you want to wait for Torah to post?
