The Territories and Populations of Trozan

Overall the population distribution is as follows (specific provinces and districts may have a significant variation, however):

RacePercentage
Human40
Elf14
Half-Elf16
Dwarf9
Kuduk7
Gnome4
Slith3
Other7

Some provinces have specific cultures present within those boundaries, and these will be detailed below.  You do not have to select a character from one of those cultures, just choose a province/district without details and a more general Trozanese cultural background, or you may propose a specific human sub-culture that we will discuss (and will then be added to the guide).

Province: Breidhovia

Duke Maros Evnoris na'Meliosi

District:  Bergen
Count Cadmun Ylan (naga)

District: Tara
Countess Sara Aubarit na'Lenorisi

District:  Pottawa
Count Paipros Taunos Lugai

Sitting in the center of Trozan atop a high plateau with three lakes (Pottawa, upon whose shores lies the capital; Bergen, and Tara), this is the most settled of all the territory of Trozan.  Population here generally mirrors the nation at large.  Overall, the capital city is Breidhof, and about a half mile north is Antram which is not so much a population center as it is the actual administrative seat of Trozan, and while various government officials may have an apartment in Antram to overnight after a protracted workday, there are no actual residents and admission to Antram is restricted to those with official business.

Province: Han-Gar

Duke: Dhibos Lomitos Bieldi

District:  Canyon
Duke Euwold the Roan (centaur – treaty-nation)

The Canyon district is home to 96% of the nation's centaurs.  Other races are present, but some 60% of the population is centaur.

District: Highlands
Count Aldos Sinya Faulanae

The Highlands are a region which is predominantly human and kuduk, with sheep and goats (wool, milk, cheese, and other associated goods) as a primary enterprise.

Province:  Leopa

Duke Daimos Taulorikh Gibronae

District: White Peaks
Count Keilun Eshnailos Fadnori

Populations:
Icedeep and Ironrock Dwarves
Stonehammer Dwarves
Shaemlar Elves
Alondith Elves
Aviel Elves

Shangee Valley Men
Primarily of na'Meliosi clan, practice subsistence farming and concentrate on grazing livestock and breeding horses.  Typically have wavy medium-brown hair, brown or hazel eyes.  Both men and women wear trousers and tunics with leggings lashed to the lower leg and foot more often than boots.  Both men and women wear hair to mid-back length, braided out of the way for work or wrapped around head when under a helmet.  Men are clean-shaven though prefer long sideburns.

Leopa Mountain Men
These are widely scattered folk of various clans settled in freeholds.  They generally practice subsistence farming and raise sheep, engage in hunting, or around Novik's Wood cut cedar timber.  They usually have thick, dark blond  or light brown hair, and light green or hazel eyes.

Pixies  8% of district
Demi-trolls 3% of district

District: Greenfang
Countess Vina Destorit na'Dhurisi

Beruithwe Elves 54% of population

District: Northplains
Count Baukan Bargeilos Nemkeidar

Leopa Province is one of great contrasts—from the high mountains of the White Peaks which are home to the Icedeep, Ironrock, and Stonehammer dwarves and the Alondith elves, to the deep forests of Greenfang (home to many of the nation's elves and pixies) and the Bentwood Forest which straddles the border between Trozan and the lands east, to the Northplains which is somewhat sparsely settled and frequently subject to raids from Asgarnia.

Province:  Lilymoor

Duchess Lina Ablovaros a'Nolothrond

District: Solovan
Count Hanos Barlis na'Pereni

District: Erodis
Duke Onuin Nolothrond (elf – treaty-nation)

The province of Lilymoor is predominantly a land of ranches and mining.  The contained district of Erodis is home to the treaty-nation of the Nolothrond elves who have a rather serious demeanor and an abiding interest in botanicals (healing and poisons).  The Duchess a'Nolothrond shares some of this ancestry, but is human.

Province:  Marrahoe

Duke Lansar Seldros Beidheri

District:  Barrens
Countess Belisanda a'Turien

District: Marrahoe
Duke Metzgorn Mestavros (dwarf)

The southern mountains of Marrahoe are a great source of gems and represent a client-nation of dwarves.  North of these mountains, in the foothills is an area known as the Barrens which has large spaces in which nothing much grows beyond scrub, and a few fertile valleys which produce extraordinary wines.

Province:  Plateau

Duke: Lucos Lauros na'Seidruni

District: High Fens
Countess Daimius Vedolros Moidheri

The Plateau province is home to two great plateaus, as well as the Amber Swamp where the slithzerikai who are not “away” live.
The Amber Swamp covers a significant portion of the north of this district.
About a third of the population of the district are the slithzerikai.

Non-player character races of the region include the Gurkperi (omnivorous amphibians, generally frog-like in appearance) and Orc-men (descendents of a slave population of the villagers once conquered by the Cracked Ruby tribe of orcs; no legal status in Trozan and generally held to be under the authorithy of the Moidheri)

Hillsmen Humans
Coal miners and farmers, terrace planting on steep hillsides.

Plaishmordi Humans (“Swampies”)
Live on the edges of the Amber Swamp, prone to tattoos and illiteracy but with a rich (though not much related to historical fact) oral tradition.

Shielvik Humans
Generally have dark, straight hair, hazel to brown eyes, and fine-boned features.  They raise horses and cattle and are somewhat nomadic, including the clans Moidheri, na'Seidruni, Pallanae, and Ludheimis.  They are consummate horsemen.

District: Drylands
Grand Matriarch Illith Ness Athsk'sk (slithzerikai)
Although this is called “drylands” that is more with respect to annual rainfall; it is home to a significant portion of the Amber Swamp.  Outside the swamp, however, is like a chaparral biome.

Province: Shangee

Duke Baukius Torlaros Ludheimis

District: Shangee
Count Faunar Deikavarit Faulanae

District: Twin Peaks
Count Valerian a'Tanith (elf)

Shangee province is mostly rolling farmland, although somewhat vulnerable on its eastern border to raids from various populations from the neighboring lands.  The Twin Peaks is so named because of the two mountains rising from the plains, separate from any major chain, (Kleob and Biton).

Province:  Thormar

Duke Darzig of Loran (dwarf)

District: Kalno
Count Baukros Varlurios

District: Banbrai
Count Firis Drunaros na'Urici

The population is divided into five groups:  kuduk, keifperi, and the humans divided into na'Ardruni, na'Urici, and na'Dhurisi clans

Keifperi Humans
This population was native to the Banbrai district, although now a distinct minority of the population.  In general, they are lean, slim, and very tall, with ruddy complexions and fair (even verging toward white-blond) hair and blue eyes.  The Keifperi have a distinct language with no written component.

This is a barbarian culture who live in grass huts with a Stamfar Village—an isolated place about a day's walk from the community which is a necropolis and ceremonial site.

Na'Ardruni
The na'Ardruni clan members typically have wavy or curly dark brown hair with brown, amber, or green eyes.  They have generally adopted the style of dress of the kuduk in the region. As a group they make their livelihood from farming and are patrons of musicians and actors, and hospitality is freely given to strangers.  Their territory is generally closer to the Kalno district.

Na'Urici
The na'Urici clan members typically have wavy blond or light brown hair with brown or green eyes.  They settled south of the Highland Rise, while the na'Ardruni are north of that point. While some agriculture is practiced, the clan favors work with animals and raising/breeding livestock.  They are somewhat more sober than the na'Ardruni and tend to wear very practical clothing—trousers and tunics or one-piece calf-length dresses, while more ceremonial robes are worn by elders, clerics, and other notables.

Na'Dhurisi
The na'Dhurisi clan members generally have long straight hair of blond to medium brown with blue or violet eyes.  They settled in trading villages along the Han-gar River.  Most of the actual work is done by hirelings while the na'Dhurisi have a somewhat decadent style of life.  They dress in elaborate fashions and imported finery including doublets with slashed sleeves, embroidered robes of silk, fancy hats, tight hose, and styles generally designed to show off the physical form beneath the clothes.

District: Outlands
Count Shibun Bailauri na'Deriusi

Something of the “breadbasket” of Trozan, the  province is somewhat less settled in the Outlands District, but Kalno and Banbrai are heavily populated and a great deal of farming is done here.  Slightly less than half of the nation's kuduk live in Banbrai and Kalno

Kuduk style:
Men wear stockings, knee-length breeches, and baggy shirts tucked in at the waist with pockets eliminating the need for purse/pouch.

Women wear colorful calf-length skirts and wide-necked blouses, sometimes with a lace-up bodice over the blouse.
