If you would like me to roll languages for your character, just add to the PM a list of the languages that you're interested in, and I'll make the rolls, add to your sheet, and add you to appropriate groups.

While I'd like to get a 6th, I think we can work with 5 and would like to get all characters completed by Monday evening.  When that's done, I'll get the first in-game post up.

I've done my best to fix the links in the pantheon thread.  I do not seem to be able to make the link work properly for the responsive site, so try the classic site to look up deities, as the links will now take you directly to the correct entry.  Characters would be familiar with the Trozan pantheon and the pantheon for their own race, and potentially vaguely aware of deities from other races, more or less by name and 'isn't that the [race] god of ...'

Unfortunately, Kildrin's player has had some health issues, so we'll start with the five, and hopefully when things improve enough, he may yet join the group.

In the meantime, I will leave it up to you whether you noticed each other/made acquaintance the prior night, but we're starting in the morning of the new day.  In the city of Briedhof, bells are rung on the hour, every hour (even during the night), so the time is usually described as "bells" rather than o'clock.

So while waiting for DM input, How many of your PC's have served their 2 years or even more.

Asking because Khaaven has served six years already, and waiting on approval to see if I can post some stuff which other veterans might recognize about him.

One weird thing about Khaaven is that he can use a bow when required but is proficient with a sling instead. I just feel that in city environments a bow is a hard sell to always have with you strung. While a sling can be at your belt and ready almost instantly, not to mention you can also choke someone with it as a garrote.

Really looking forward to playing Khaaven with you guys.

I say that because I created Neo first:

  • Neo served his 2 years mandatory
  • then he did another 2 years stint.
  • Neo is proficient in short bow and sling
  • but he uses a sling (didn't even buy a bow to start)

Maybe chalk it up to great minds think alike!

Aendyr has served his 2 years.  Blabbermouth that he is, he has already mentioned it in game.  He doesn't have a bow now either.  Why?  I'm sure he'll tell the whole story to the next person who stands still long enough.  (It's not because of a sling.)

quote:
I have never seen an episode of GoT

If you're tired of the standard, totally predictable Hollywood formulas, give GoT a try.  The first season comes right out and proves that no rule of fiction is unbreakable and it goes on to use and twist tropes in such a masterful way that you can never quite see what's coming.  When you do see it coming, they're setting you up for something else later.

With your +1 and dex you are better. slings are also considered thrown since muscle is used. So we should be close with my Str, I may hit a little less but for heavier damage.

I hope we end up being very backstabby!

It's my favourite part of AD&D...but, depending on how the DM rules it can be virtually impossible to pull off so it becomes useless.

As for GoT, I did not watch the show because I read the first 3 or maybe 4 books, and I found Martin's writing overly verbose and long-winded so the thought of watching his prose was simply painful to me.

Of course I have heard a lot about the series, and frankly it never appealed to me.

If Martin had a decent editor, maybe my whole view would have been different. :-)

Characters would know that the actual charge being lodged against Lorand is "armed robbery by means of magic".  Armed robbery is normally punished by amputating the weapon hand and then a term of hard labor; using magical device makes it capital, especially when the state wants to make an example of the offender.

FYI, if investigating the crime is something we are supposed to do, please just give us an out of character nod. From an in character perspective, especially from Meridian's point of view, it would be someone between sticking his nose in someone else's business (the guards, not just Lorian) and interfering with a proper criminal investigation. As a guest, even if he disagreed, it's just not his place. The guards should be properly informed, but he has no reason to find them any more corrupt or incompetent than anyone else, given the little he's seen so far.

Thus, his plan hasn't changed, yet...

Post op visit is scheduled for 2 weeks from Monday (the 24th), and so no news in between now and then is good news (and the odds are 99% in my favor there).  I think the nap yesterday was me pushing out the rest of the anesthesia.  When I'm in bed, I typically have one cat on one side and another on my other side (even though I'm a side sleeper), and another in the crook created by bent knees, and another one on my feet.  Might even have another on my pillow like a hat on my head.  Sometimes I get 6 of them on there with me, even (I have 7 indoor cats).

I'm generally feeling pretty good today.  Of course, I have a really skewed pain perception with my 10 being migraine (which I thankfully have only avoidable triggers for, so I go that route rather than the meds route), such that childbirth without pain meds only rated about a 2-3, so that can be part of it.  So for me, "take it easy" is more like "sit at your computer and play games" and "don't do that re-staining project today".

Most of you are also in my Extraordinary Lives and are aware of this, but there's a few who aren't.  So, the pathology report was not good, as might be expected when you get told the report information on the Monday right after the Friday procedure.  While I do have cancer and see the gyn-onc on the 25th, I am not expecting to change anything about running games.

However, if I miss anything about what your character is doing, don't be afraid to point out there's an unanswered question.

It's good that you're staying positive.  You can beat cancer.  Both my uncle and my best friend are in total remission now after about a year of treatment each.  My best friend was even at stage 4 when she was diagnosed and she's completely healthy now.  You can absolutely do it too!  We're all pulling for you.

I've a neighbor/friend who was the same. And about a year and a half now after finishing treatment, has been on more vacations than I have in the past five years.   My impression in observing her is that treatments and techniques have improved in recent years.

Ok -- looks like I'll be joining this little troupe.   For those of you who came from Extraordinary Lives, we've already met.    I'm just running a bit late.

Wow ... and here I thought I was just making a cool in-world substance that is loosely based on something from history.  Though I must admit the carbon nanotubes are intriguing, and my thought had been that the ore in the location mined (originally in my EL world, a mountain range on Romaghna where the Barzilai ablachi dwell) did have additional inclusions, but it's kind of like Gygaxium (I had a friend who once wrote an essay about how many coins could fit where, and basically decided that all coins would be the size of Eisenhower dollars and Gygaxium as the substance which was alloyed with each to make them all weigh the same regardless of the metal content).

Do I have any recourse with the person who tutored me -- just in terms of being able to speak with them, ask a few questions?  If so, what'd be the distance involved to go see them?

Way to sciencey for me! I imagine Xamaran steel would be made for ore mined in one location in the world (as far as anyone knows).

Millennia ago in an epic battle a titan defeated a pair of pit fiends. Much blood was spilled and it literally permeated the stone and rock of the battlefield, forming the ore.

Or carbon nanotubes, I guess! :-)

It was my understanding a guy named Lorand stole the most recent book; which to me implied three.   (stolen by George, Roger, and Lorand)

Is it two or three?  If the latter, do we know the name of that work?

Coincidentally, we're near the end of a calendar month, and the XP line will come on 8/1.  So, we'll stay in Briedhof until that point.  Subtract one king for living expenses for the intervening day (except for Morveya, whose family isn't charging her).

Korin and Neo will have Nebrosi horses, Qrox will have an Erodison horse, all others may have an Aryvani horse.

Other expenditures that you're interested in (with the newly acquired 60 kings), you can list what you want and I'll let you know what is available/cost.

The bathhouse that Lorand runs has a number of private chambers with a copper clawfoot tub in each.  Entrance to the bathhouse gives one access to a selection of soaps (goat milk, sandalwood, etc), a towel and washcloth.

I'll give it some time, real-time, for any additional posts before leaving the city.  The four humans (common soldiers) present appear to be na'Ardruni, and they have flails and appear to be fairly sturdy youths from the farms.

What are these kobolds armed with?

Those in the lead of the group can close to melee with the crossbow kobolds (should that be desired).  The other ten (and the three farmers) are about long distance bow shot away.  It would take seven rounds for the soldiers approaching from the fort to get there.

How about us and the ten kobolds?

You can close to melee with the two kobolds (or at least within casting distance) in the current round.  It would take another round (so on round 2, and open to crossbow bolts) to get to the ten kobolds).  Approximate distance to the farmers and majority of the kobolds is about 200 yards from the first two kobolds.

I have been dealing with electricians piecemeal re-wiring my house ... finally getting close to done (they're supposed to come again Monday to work on this one ceiling light in the room where my work desk is, finish outlets in that room, some finishing touches on upstairs, and the lights in the utility room and the outdoor lights.  The worst part being that I was always getting ready for them to come (even on days they didn't), which entailed actually getting dressed for the day (something that WFH generally does not require!).

Sorry for the neglect, folks!   I will be getting posts in tomorrow.  (Jill's other game, as well)

This is the seasonal/holiday slow down, in my case, not loss of interest.

As we move into the TG holiday/weekend, I'll be scarce again.  Pretty good availability the first two weeks of December --  then slower through the year's end.

Having Neo in front to check for traps and Aendyr behind him might allow for both of us to fire bows if Kobolds appear, since Aendyr could fire over the top of the kuduk.  Korin could then rush to the front.
