I could not stop laughing.  Of course, Meridian *does* have some arcane abilities.  And if Kildrin's health improves sufficiently, there'll be another thief.  Clearly, I need to recruit for a female mage.

Maybe try a different browser.  For me, at home it wouldn't load on Safari, but it would on Firefox.

In reply to Aendyr (msg # 28):

I use Firefox as my default browser; but I tried it in Edge and it worked.

That is very cool!! Of course, I have never seen an episode of GoT so I don't know how it compares to the real thing.

So while waiting for DM input, How many of your PC's have served their 2 years or even more.

Asking because Khaaven has served six years already, and waiting on approval to see if I can post some stuff which other veterans might recognize about him.

One weird thing about Khaaven is that he can use a bow when required but is proficient with a sling instead. I just feel that in city environments a bow is a hard sell to always have with you strung. While a sling can be at your belt and ready almost instantly, not to mention you can also choke someone with it as a garrote.

Really looking forward to playing Khaaven with you guys.

Khaaven it totally a Neo-wannabe!!!! :-)

I say that because I created Neo first:
  • Fighter/Thief
  • Was going to be an elf! DM steered me to kuduk.
  • Neo served his 2 years mandatory
  • then he did another 2 years stint.
  • Neo is proficient in short bow and sling
  • but he uses a sling (didn't even buy a bow to start)

Maybe chalk it up to great minds think alike!

But, I have to guess that Khaaven is not specialised in dagger?

Aendyr has served his 2 years.  Blabbermouth that he is, he has already mentioned it in game.  He doesn't have a bow now either.  Why?  I'm sure he'll tell the whole story to the next person who stands still long enough.  (It's not because of a sling.)

If you're tired of the standard, totally predictable Hollywood formulas, give GoT a try.  The first season comes right out and proves that no rule of fiction is unbreakable and it goes on to use and twist tropes in such a masterful way that you can never quite see what's coming.  When you do see it coming, they're setting you up for something else later.

And being a kuduk, Neo is probably even better with the sling ...

I think we are very close with slings t,depending on how slings are handled.

With your +1 and dex you are better. slings are also considered thrown since muscle is used. So we should be close with my Str, I may hit a little less but for heavier damage.

I hope we end up being very backstabby!

It's my favourite part of AD&D...but, depending on how the DM rules it can be virtually impossible to pull off so it becomes useless.

As for GoT, I did not watch the show because I read the first 3 or maybe 4 books, and I found Martin's writing overly verbose and long-winded so the thought of watching his prose was simply painful to me.

Of course I have heard a lot about the series, and frankly it never appealed to me.

If Martin had a decent editor, maybe my whole view would have been different. :-)

Characters would know that the actual charge being lodged against Lorand is "armed robbery by means of magic".  Armed robbery is normally punished by amputating the weapon hand and then a term of hard labor; using magical device makes it capital, especially when the state wants to make an example of the offender.

FYI, if investigating the crime is something we are supposed to do, please just give us an out of character nod. From an in character perspective, especially from Meridian's point of view, it would be someone between sticking his nose in someone else's business (the guards, not just Lorian) and interfering with a proper criminal investigation. As a guest, even if he disagreed, it's just not his place. The guards should be properly informed, but he has no reason to find them any more corrupt or incompetent than anyone else, given the little he's seen so far.

Thus, his plan hasn't changed, yet...

It is part of the plan for the introduction.  At least two PCs are currently hooked into investigation, so perhaps the information they return with will be persuasive, or I can give an IC reason for Meridian.
