Ataraxia:
Here character sheet is finally done! Sorry about the wait. I'm really looking forward to playing and hope you're as enthusiastic as I am! =)
yeah, almost ready to go. Few bits and bobs to clear. Are you ok with me setting up your starting location and 'realm'? Or do you want to create that? To get this off the road, we may generate the 'realm' as we go? I'll give the braod location and surroundings and then we can take it from there? This is the fastest route and we can start the actual game tomorrow.
Ataraxia:
Did you check out that webcomic? It's fine if you didn't. If not, I'll just steal one of the main character's appearances...... =P
Yup, reading through it. Still getting used to the vertical comic style. It's quite interesting since it's completely at odds with traditional comics style. I had read about it, and understand why it's done , but it's interesting in terms of structure, etc.
Ataraxia:
Also, a question: do "adventurers" (which I suppose to mean "important people") in this game world get a +30% to Common Magic? Or is this game world lower-magic than Glorantha? A typical D&D-style setting has quite a bit less magic than Glorantha does, so I ask.
It doesn't effect Ataraxia's starting skill, of course; she's already good enough at Common Magic. I guess I'm asking how, well, common magic is in the game world.
Putting Glorantha aside, this is where the 1e/2e Forgotten Realms differ from 3.x and forwards. Magic, most of all low level and common magic is far less prevalent. In 5e for ex, anyone can cast spells, in here, barbarians are barbarians, they have a sword (magical or not) and that's that. No cantrips, etc. Maybe a blessing if they have a cleric.
My perception of Glorantha, with everyone able to do some sort of magic, is far more closer to later D&D than here. Think of this as a middle ground between Hyboria and Glorantha. There's magic, it's more common and powerful than in Hyboria, but the number of fireballing people is far less.
This means you are a big thing in this timeframe. Not just in size.
If you have a look in the trove at D&D 1e, there's something called 'Campaign Setting Box Set Original', which was called the 'grey box', which is THE primer on the setting.
