2015-Attack of Doomsday:
The Trinity banded together to stop Doomsday.
Superman nearly dead at the hands of Doomsday used every last ounce of power he had to kill Doomsday.
More than half of Metropolis was destroyed.
Batman was paralyzed by Doomsday. Official Bruce Wayne was just another victim of the city's destruction. Officially Batman was obliterated during the attack.

2017-Post Doomsday:
Heroes with superpowers and those without inspired by the sacrifice of both Superman & Batman have come into the light to protect the world.
Bruce Wayne has approached numerous individuals to join an alliance that could be called upon at any time to deal with threats greater than any one person could handle alone.
The City of Metropolis has mostly been abandoned. All major infrastructure and government facilities were destroyed. Less than a third of the population still lives there.
Gotham City saw a massive spike in all forms of crime after the declaration of Batman's death.
