I'll be a resident Acanthus of the Mysterium (as I'm sure most will learn sooner or later). Looking forward to getting into another Mage game after so long!

Hello everyone and Welcome to Mundia Gloriana.

I'm excited and thrilled to have you with me on this exciting adventure.

I'm reaching out to flesh out sheet details with everyone. The template should be loaded. Please select a portrait for yourself even if it's inclined to change once your concepts harden.

Ask me whatever questions you may have either in private or here. As much of the group is inexperienced with 2E group questions are not as "silly" as you might think and could be beneficial for everyone.

I do have a question (or three).

1. When we start generating characters, do we set aside points for shared merits, or does the game start with infrastructure (like a hollow or a sanctum).

2. You wrote in the game information that the location isn't fixed. Still, having a starting point would be nice - a place to come from makes background easier (and things like choosing a language).

3. We start as starting level characters, right?

Yes, I've added these details to the Useful Information notice.

You'll have a Sanctum/Safe place at rank 4 and library at 2 w/ a focus on the Death/Matter arcana.

This is technically Morrigan's house but count it as yours for all intents and purposes.

You'll start in Quincy, Mass.

Yes, this goes for everyone. You can leave but you all start/arrive here intially.

Everyone wins up at Morrigan's house for one reason or another in Quincy.

There should be a MtA 2E template loaded already.

The story proper wont start until I say 5 players with sheets, but I'm open to sessions between players in the 'past'

I want to stress as we create characters you will gain exp in this game and do not stress the merits/orders. All of that can be sorted/re-arranged in-game to support the narrative.

Hi all, I'm new to Mage but excited to game with you all. I'm still making my way through the rulebook to get the hang of character creation, but I'm going to go Thrysus for Path and am leaning towards Adamantine Arrow for Order.

There's 9-ish of you so far. Maybe 2-3 others over the weekend. We start early next week, I'll be around to support folks with their character sheets/development.

Again, everyone knows Morrigan. If you're Silver Ladder you've met Narcissus and if your GotV then you've spoken w/ Fortuna and have her contact information.

Everyone starts at Morrigan's place having just arrived in town with someone offering you safe lodging and a temporary sanctum at Morrigan's place.

Everyone has Morrigan's contact information, an open offer to stay at her place as long as you need and free use of the facilities, and her collection of tomes and lore. (Morrigan has never said she has a library)

I have zero concerns about the size of the group or its impact on play pace.

Some will not find this enjoyable for one reason or another and there are no hard feelings here, I am simply thankful to have spent time with all of you doing something we like.

Others will come/go over time as schedules change.

I will check in with anyone who's not posting at least 2x a week and keep things moving along for everyone.

Not sure about all, but Sharvara is not a native and is going to be “new in town”.

Kairos will definitely be a new arrival to town as well. Also one likely to stick with the general gathering locale - to start with at least!

You can have prior experience with this area and even existing connections.

My only narrative requirement is you just arrived in the area and upon arrival all converge upon Morrigan's house/sanctum.

Connections existing, Sharvara will has a Mystery Cult which he helps oversee, and a Mentor. He's coming from the Washington D.C area is that ties into anyone else's backstory.

Sparrow is from California, but has done conferences on biochemistry and pharmaceutical research all over. Probably knows people in the field locally.

Sparrow would likely know (potentially at least) Kairos as well then. Being in the chemistry field himself (more physical than biological oriented though), but still with connections in that area. Lots of room for cross-over.

My character is a botanist. She might know Sparrow.

Sparrow has five dots in professional training for chemistry and pharmaceutical research. She is prominent in the field.

Sparrow is just a couple ahead of Kairos in that regard then. She'd be more well known than he, but I can definitely see him having heard of her given the mutual chemistry connection.

Cool. I'd be fine with a connection to Kairos and/or Strawberry. In which case you would know that Sparrow AKA Amber Nightingale is a leading chemist who does pharmaceutical research and development and presents at conferences. She's an outspoken advocate for decriminalizing recreational psychotropic drugs, and has participated in running multiple studies on therapeutic applications thereof. She also once coauthored a paper on tentacle pornography in culture.

Virgil has actually read Sparrow’s paper on tentacle porn, and may have worked with their company. He’s also volunteered for a study or two related to recreational drugs, but more as a hobby. He’s also a professional fixer for celebrities and corporations trying to avoid scandals. He’s a bit of a traveler and doesn’t stay in one place for too long. He often follows whatever opportunities he can for a good deal, and good being whatever benefits him.

Hello everyone, I am yet another of the ST's accomplices.  My exact duties are still TBD, but I'm quite familiar with the Mage 2e ruleset and greatly enjoy mucking about with it's bits and bobs, so please feel free to hit me up if you have any ideas you want to expand upon or questions about how to make something work.

Virgil has a street background as well. He may have climbed the social ladder a bit since his awakening, but he spent his younger years shipping..... produce.... up and down the East coast, and values any and all connections, especially when magic artifacts are involved, or a good deal.

I'm curious, how long has everyone's character been a Mage?

Virgil has been a mage for around five years or so.

Sparrow has also been a mage for a few years, probably about six or seven I think.

I may be the newest but been around Mages my life.  They were just called a different name.


3-4 years

For Kairos, I was figuring on right around five years or so. Long enough to complete his initial learning and then some beyond. But not too much so obviously.

I'm thinking Aegis has only been a mage a year or two, three at the most. He's pretty young as well, somewhere in the 19-21 year range.

Sharvara it would be around 7 years.

For Vagrant it would be around 10 years assuming the game is set in the present.

Also if anyone's character is also a veteran, they may know Shavara. He's active in that community and is one himself.

Hello all, new Arrow here.

Has been a mage for all of a few months. Might know Vagrant or Shavara from being a Contractor (Blackwater) and Aegis and Vagrant from being an Arrow. Virgil, Hunter has been known to make Periapts and to scribe Rotes to commission, might be a connection there.

Vagrant is a veteran from the Vietnam war, though once he got home he joined the protests against the war, so some veterans probably like him and some probably see him as turning on them. But Vagrant himself still holds veterans in high regard, it's more the politicians and generals he takes issue with.

FYI

Your Path Arcana should be your highest Arcana, I see a lot of people w/ their 3rd non-path arcana at 3 dots. Essentially 5 of your starting dots 'should' be in your path arcana.

I honestly don't care but FYI - you pay mana to cast spells from your nonruling/path arcana so you can have 3 in Life as a Mastigos/Obrimos BUT you pay mana for every Life spell you cast that is not a Praxes/Rote.

Yeah, all the order contacts point you to her and she is the order contact for AA, Mysterium and Free Council more or less.

Also, Social maneuvering and other player characters. Your fellow players dont have doors, there is no mechanical impression level between pc characters.

You have to actually convince the other mages to assist you in your plans.

There are no doors to open to force someone to comply.

With NPC's however, they are at the mercy of the dice system and your magic. Bon appetit

Hello to those who have begun,

I'm still waiting on perception checks from a few people.

There's essentially a brief moment, and you can reflexively respond.

Mage is a game of dreadful curiosity IMO.

If you have other reflexive options feel free to engage them,

I'm very interested in what you see/hear/smell/taste/feel through your nimbus, aka Mage sight.

(By this, I mean you can reflexively cast a spell minus any yantras, activate mage armor, use some merits)

Once I get everyone's perception checks, I'll move on.

Until then, feel free to engage your mage sight.

FYI - You can feed mana into the area for a +1 per point of mana and you may spend a point of willpower for +3 on your revelation attempts.

This sounds like helpful advice, it's not. Please, do it anyway.

It's partially a phrasing thing, but an important distinction that 2e mage makes over 1st is that Mage Sight is not a spell; it is an inherent ability of the Awakened and is in fact the core power that frees you from being a Sleeper.  Using Active Mage Sight (not necessarily Focused) is almost instinctual when you feel the supernatural tingling along your senses.  Curiosity is one of the defining characteristics of the splat and the developers really want you to indulge it on occasion.  ^-^

Brownie is a couch surfing Acanthus with a community focus who does good to feel good. Be it fixing broken plumbing or making a beautiful new playground pop up overnight in a rundown park, this Free Councilor leaves a trail of masterfully crafted gifts behind him as he drifts through life on the threads of good karma.

He also tends to disappear down into the ground to dig up materials and/or do some magic-intensive crafting.

Correct, this is still too subtle to pick up for those who missed the perception check or weren't sitting around with active mage sight.

Did Hunter mean to say Mastigos? They would have Mind as Ruling, Moros is Death/Matter. Let me know if we need to retcon that or if you want to play it as a 'heat of the moment' or 'newer mage' moment, not sure if it was OOC or purposeful IC mix up.

Sorry for the delay but will be posting later today, most likely I will be casting either Postcognition or Perfect Timing. Have to read up on which would best suit the situation.

That is a nice roll for Perfect Timing for the Party.

With the perfect timing those still in the house(Morrigan, Sharvara, Hunter & Isis herself) gain the inspired condition, you can spend the condition to gain an exceptional success on 3 successes instead of 5 and you'll gain a willpower. I recommend using this in conjunction with a willpower point for +3 dice bonus, a possible exceptional success and regaining any spent willpower.

I'm not sure if we are in 'turn time' anymore, but I plan on rolling 4 times on scrutiny in total, which I believe is the maximum I get before risking contamination of the mystery. Did you want me to keep rolling one at a time or should I do the rest in one go?

As long as you know the opacity you can roll 4 times and see if you unravel it completely.

My next two to three weeks are scarily full with work stuff, but then it's definitely going to become much better. Sorry, I'm such a slow poster atm.

Morrigan's Sanctum - this place has alot of insects and bugs flying around
Morrigan's Sanctum's yard/exterior - no one's really left yet, you're in the woods outside but not far

The doppelgangers

Virgil and Morrigan stuffed Virgil's copy in the kitchen of Morrigan's Sanctum.
Strawberry has her twin bound by spirit magic.

The rest of you have twins that escaped into thin air in Morrigan's Sanctum's yard/exterior.

The group in the yard/exterior is investigating the mysteries left in the wake of the encounter.

The group in the house is using magic to find the source of these spirits.

The group at the hallow are looking into it's health, resonance and mana.

A colleague got ill, so my workload shows no signing of diminishing. It's bitter, but I don't see how I can play in this game any time soon. Very sorry and good luck!
