A sunny day near Waterdeep

The great city of Waterdeep is the Crown of the Sword Coast. A metropolis full of wealth, full of magic, full of excitement...

But this isn't Waterdeep. This is the village of Barthold. Perhaps 20 miles from Waterdeep. A day or so away on a good road, less with a horse.

The village is pleasant, though, with well-kept houses decorated with flowers. Human children run about, their parents mostly at work in the gardens that ring that village.

The day is beautiful, and evening is falling. The light of the sun descending casts a pleasant glow over the town.

Adahlen Darmissian walks through the town, an elf in leather armor, sword at his side, and bow and pack on his back. Children gawk at him as he passes -- an adventure, and an elf at that!

Adahlen stops in front of the town's sole inn, Barthold's Rest. He is tired. As he looks at the inn, he thinks about why he has come here...

OOC: make up some reason that coincides with your background as to why you are in this place. Are you going to Waterdeep for some reason?

A sunny day near Waterdeep

In reply to Key and Guardian of the Gate (msg # 1):

Adahl'en hiked since first light, tired, but satisfied that he was able to help that couple get their children back. After pulling a mud clump from the heel of his boot, he looks up and sees the sign for the inn. He thinks this is as good a place as any to stop for the evening and makes his way to the doorway of the establishment.

The door opens as you walk up to it. A man stumbles out, obviously drunk. He doesn't seem to see you as he staggers past.

You walk into the inn and the door closes behind you.

The tavern here is lit by oil lamps. There is a fireplace that looks like it would be merry if it were lit, with deer heads mounted over it.

There are four tables here -- plenty for this small town -- but only one of them is occupied at present, by two men who look like hunters.

At the bar sits an old man, nursing an ale. He glares at you with rheumy eyes as you walk in.

The man behind the bar is a fat, jovial-looking fellow. He nods at you with a friendly smile.

OOC: Adahlen gets Inspiration for working his backstory into his intro. Meaning that he can reroll one dice roll at some point.

Adahl'en greets the barman and asks for an ale and some stew if he has any. He also asks if there is space at the inn to get any sleep.

He gives you an ale and says the stew will be right out. That's a copper piece for each.

Of course there's a room. Nothing fancy. It'll cost you a silver piece.

When you ask about sleeping, the old man at the bar snorts and says, "elves don't sleep. Gods, I hate elves."

He glares at you.

OOC: I'm not going to bother deducting money that you spend during this introductory bit from your gold. We'll assume that the amount on the character sheet is that left after whatever you spend here.

The barman looks at you with an expression that says, "calm down -- he's harmless."

The old man says, "elves. How old are you, elf? I'm an old man. I'll see the Gods soon. How old are you? Older than me, I swear by Torm."

"I am young in elf terms, but yes, I am probably older than you, sir. Give him an ale on my coin, barman, if you please."

Adahl'en takes his leave of the drunkard, walks to an open table, sits down, sips at his ale, and looks around him. Listens to any conversations going on.
