Daily Life in Deadwater

Every day in Deadwater, the people eke out a living where Civilization ends before the Vast Swamp begins. A series of bridges run through the village and connects the homes with the pier on the river. Newcomers see a slanted fence that keeps out any predators like crocodiles or the random swamp ape. The gate fence connects with the town gates. Uphill, one may worship at the Temple of The Sun Father, where Sister Mercion serves Pelor by serving the community. Also uphill is the home of Baron Adrian Lederborn, assigned to run Deadwater.

Locals agree that the less said about the Baron, the better. Unless any saying involves badmouthing him. Then, talk away!

Laredon Van Dee divides his busy days between running his carpentry business and his new position as the Sheriff. One of his watchmen, Joshua Redfern hunts in the Swamp when he’s not keeping watch at the gates. The youngest and newest watchman, Connor Cassidy, still lives with his large family, who make a living at brick masonry and crafting ceramics. They all take turns guarding the jail, which found use housing Benny Tolford and a Hag named Connie.

Other businesses include a tannery, a forge, a seamstress, among the few dedicated to surviving the hardships of life in a swamp. Sheila Blackmoor reopened her apothecary in town. She also took ownership of The Sulphur’s Spit, partnered with Bathsheba, a middle-aged Tiefling who worked there the longest. You’ll always smell delicious fried pork and seafood, and enjoy your favorite spirits there.

Daily Life in Deadwater

Tara found herself spending a fair amount of time at the apothecary, of course-- she still consulted with Mistress Sheila, even if her apprenticeship was over.  But more time was spent in studying the books she'd acquired.  Her magic had let her copy over the spells she'd found in the book easily enough, but there was still more knowledge to acquire, subtleties and codes in the text to decipher, always more to learn...
