The Adventures of Sir Daron

The passing of Uncle Edyin cast a pall over Sir Daron's Winter. The young knight well remembered the grey haired, blue eyed old rogue with his jokes and his tall tales of once famous now long forgotten figures. Old Edyin had been lame in his later years - and was never clear on precisely which battle he claimed to have fought in had caused the wound - but he had been a familiar figure and would be much missed.

The old knight was buried with honour and much sadness beneath the rich soil of his homeland, and Sir Daron had prayers said in the church of Trengloss.

The Adventures of Sir Daron

Spring 506 AD

Sir Daron has been back at his manor for almost two weeks when he receives word that some bandits have struck a couple of the farms in the eastern portion of Trengloss.  The farmers demand protection of their crops and livestock.

The Adventures of Sir Daron

Sir Daron calls in the aid of some of older uncles and cousins.

"The villagers know nothing of battle," he says to his grey bearded uncle Agned. "Against bandit craftiness I'd rather have men with experience on their side."

The Adventures of Sir Daron

Sir Daron gathers 5 knights and heads off to the area in which the bandits have reportedly been frequenting.  How does he wish to proceed once there?  There are obviously the farmers who have complained, there are towns people of various sorts, woodsmen, clergy, etc.  He knows which farms have reported issues and could attempt to find tracks.

"Given the bandits struck here and here," he says to his brother gesturing at a map. "Where would their camp most likely to be?"

He and his knights search for tracks, hoping to discover a route back to that camp.

The Adventures of Sir Daron

Sir Daron tries to calculate about how far a group of bandits could reasonably travel in a few hours and based on the terrain and the scenes of attack, where the bandits are most likely to be camping.  Somewhere in his calculations, however, he mixes something up and the area they search is within a few hours ride but not a couple of hours walk.  As a result, they find no evidence of any bandits.  It is almost an hour before they realize their mistake.

Sir Daron, rolled 20 using 1d20.  Battle.

Sir Daron takes a point in Battle (fumble).

You can feel free to attempt to calculate things again.

The Adventures of Sir Daron

Sir Daron figures out where he went wrong and quickly determines a couple of possible places the bandits could be camped.  He and his knights check the area but have problems finding the bandit's trail.  It is starting to get dark.  Do they plan to camp or seek lodging at an Inn or at the wealthiest estate or house int he area?
