OOC: The Hearth

Oof...

As a player I'm definitely not against a witch character but I posted in the trial that young Sir Daron remembered Merlin's treachery and Ygraine's bloodlust in wanting our character's fathers executed and it has left him distrustful towards both magicians and women.

Having a character who is not only a magic using woman but a daughter of the despised Ygraine might make things tricksy!

I am new to Pendragon so I have no idea how the magic system or having a witch with us will affect the campaign. Part of me finds it interesting while another part of me fear it will kill the "magic as a mystery in the background"-vibe that I like about Pendragon.

Having a PC hate/fear/distrust another PC can lead to interesting roleplay and dynamics in a campaign. And it can also do the opposite. I suppose I am trying to say that I will leave that to you guys to decide.

Thanks for asking our input on this, ToT.  I think it'd be weird and interesting to have a witch join up with us.  It'd definitely throw Aeddan for a loop -- women are strange, vaguely dangerous creatures anyway, and one who has magical powers would seem particularly dangerous.  But also, like, GIRL!  I'm totally willing to play that out and see how it goes.

Thank you for the input, I very much appreciate it!

I am not sure yet whether the player will even be able to join, but Morgan herself is likely to play a role regardless.  I will be posting more background, which should give you a fuller picture of your fathers' adventures.  These will all be based on stories they told you as they wouldn't be the sorts of things you would have been old enough to participate in.

Just want to say you impress me with the Background Stories. I had forgotten how much work you put into the campaigns, so .. thank you :)

:)  Most of the stuff is from The Great Pendragon Campaign, I just modify it to switch what 'side' you are on and to personalize it a bit.

Post # 16, 17, 19 give a basic idea.  At this stage there is limited variation as no one is really expert at anything.  Do you have a name yet for you of your father?

OK, all of our knights and fathers now have names.  When you get the chance, go to Character Details and Edit Description and add any basic physical description, things people would know about you, and any Statistics, Passions, Traits, or Skills 16+.  These are what you are known for.  Make sure you have an avatar.

I have a few more stories coming up and then we can start things off.  While you were present at the Trial, you only learn the other stories in pieces over the years.  Now that you are older, and maybe wiser, your characters will have perhaps a better perspective on events past.  Even your fathers were not aware of the Tintagel events until long afterward.

The most recent story is the point at which your fathers reach the high-watermark of their careers.  With the Duke dead, the Duchess about to be married off, and a liege (Uther) for whom their respect is very limited, they start to decline.  The trial for treason, even though they are exonerated, leaves them scarred and does little to improve their opinion of Uther.  They have little choice but to follow Uther, but fortunately he is not long for this world.

Ygraine felt betrayed by her husband's most loyal knights, only to learn that they, like she, were ensorcelled by Merlin (who she figures out turned Uther into the image of her husband).  There is an expression about a woman scorned . . .

As I've said I still think Sir Daron's formative memory of Ygraine is her calling out for his father's head. That's a deep mark and I don't see him ever trusting or liking her after that.

Well after reading the story of the poisoning I am certain my character will always fear women! And he will never drink. Or eat. And sleep with one eye open at all times.

(I am so looking forward to this)

It's funny, Aeddan's mom has always talked about how colorless a woman's life is, having no power or influence on the things around her.  Aeddan discovered somewhat different messages folded into his father's stories  :)

I rolled a 6 for income which means Fishing. So I imagine Otterham will be my manor? I had hoped it was by the sea but it appears to be more inland than I first thought?

They are all inland.  Clethor and Altarnun have rivers.

I suspect that Aeddan is going to have a thing for nuns.  It is therefore incumbent upon me to claim Altarnun on his behalf  :D

OK, I have posted the opening scene, including your investiture as knights.  Once Rhydwyn has his character set, we can move on to the feast.
