Downtime

What is Downtime

Downtime is any length of period which time passes. They will often take place in 1 week intervals. At any moment in time you may be pulled from a downtime action into a scene. Otherwise downtime passes by with a few rolls and results at which point we get back into game and playing your character.

What Can You Do During Downtime

Downtimes are used to speed along things that provide little fun but are necessary actions one needs to do. These can be from securing Contacts, Haven, and Domain, but can also be a lot of other things. Going about talking with people to find information, a protracted investigation, and some larger work of art are some examples. Are you playing bars regularly to raise your fame? Are you holding parties to rub elbows with the rich and powerful hoping to attract someone "special"? Are you exploring the sewers and warrens beneath Toronto? All this is downtime actions.

We don't want to roleplay every party a Toreador attends, or every hole a Nosferatu finds, or every human a Ventrue puts under their thumb. But should a party a Toreador attends get eventful, a hole a Nosferatu goes down have something strange, or a mortal a Ventrue tries to put under their thumb end up being something else, well that we can RP.

How does Downtime Work

The ST will tell you a passage of time is taking place, and approximately how long that passage of time will be. You list per turn (week) what you wish to do with your character.  A roll is made, which may or may not lead to an event. The more detail the better.

Even if it is not to grab contacts, domain or improve your haven, your actions may lead to points in other backgrounds or xp that may be spent on those backgrounds, they will simply take more time, as they aren't as easy to destroy.  So if for months the Toreador has been throwing parties as their downtime action, then maybe if their parties are great they will get 3xp they can spend on Herd.  If the Tremere is focused on their business, and making the appropriate finance rolls rather than expanding his contacts, then after a few months they may gain 2xp they can spend on Resources.  This can apply to Masks, and other advantages, including loresheets.  These will come however at a far slower rate than contacts, haven, and domain, months rather than weeks.
