Re: Chance Meetings
As the last of the Emerald Claw team drops, the area falls quiet. Well, as quiet as it can, with the nearby building spewing smoke and cries of [/b]alarm and confusion[/b] echoing throughout this level of the tower. By the time the party has picked themselves up, though, a bucket brigade has been started from the nearest fountain and a magewright has been found who has begun some sort of suppressing ritual to help with the fire. This gives the heroes of the moment time to deal with other things.
Such as, for one thing, assessing the fallen foes. The terrorists don't have much on them, apart from their weapons, armor and overcoats. They did leave behind their battle standard, though. While it might seem inappropriate to carry the standard of an enemy, it looks rather like this was something not made for the Emerald Claw, but repurposed by them. The faint image of a claw seems to overlay older, fainter images that hint at ownership by other, and likely more honorable, groups.
For another thing, other parties start to show up at the scene. The first is a contingent of the City Watch that must have been in the area. This group takes some steps to establish order on the scene, and then to ascertain what's going on. To this end, they request that the adventurers remain where they are for now, and then give witness as to the recent events. But they themselves don't ask many questions.
Shortly after the Watch arrives, a bit of a crowd starts to gather around the scene. Not long thereafter, another figure pops in. Literally, out of thin air. The fellow is an eladrin who must have not wanted to squeeze through the crowd. He has pink hair in a short style, and wears relatively mundane clothing for an eladrin: a decent suit and boots, with a long and voluminous coat. He seems to know the Watchmen, who allow him to look around the scene. He approaches the party after a time.
"Greetings," he says, peering at them with grey, pupilless eyes. "I'm Crivens, licensed inquisitive. I work with the Watch now and then, but most importantly now. Quite a scene here. I gather you lot more or less stumbled upon it and were caught up. Lucky, but as they say, chance favors the prepared, and you appear to have been prepared. Adventurers, are you? Come to Sharn to work for the Houses? Or maybe the University? Not for one of the gangs, though, I'm sure! No, no. But come, let's have your names, and your business here."
Crivens commands the group's attention for the moment, but it's hard not to notice a half-elven woman with tablet and stylus who is trying to get past the guards as she takes notes, and a cluster of people in the crowd who can't seem to take their eyes off of Frug.
As mentioned, the battle standard is a battle standard of honor, useful in a group with two defenders.
After you interact with Crivens for a bit, I'll go into who the woman and the Frug fans are.
