Hello all, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'll be playing Sorin, a thief and wannabe wizard. I'm currently thinking of either an Eldritch Scoundrel or a magus, leaning towards the rogue for it's skill capacity. What do you all think?

Marcia, as for traits, it does depend quite a bit on what precisely you want your character to be doing, what skills you'd like to pick up to represent her backstory, and so forth. If you want raw mechanical advice though, it's hard to say no to the Magical Knack trait. It raises your effective Caster Level to ranger level-1 as opposed to -3, which adds a fair bit of duration to your spells. It won't kick in for you until level four, but it's very good for any half caster.

If it helps I am going Witch/Rouge to become an Arcane Trickster.
With a focus on Witch side (love them Hex) and item creation (Cauldron at first).

So if your interested we could team up on item creation side of things.
That would make Eldritch Scoundrel or even a pure Rouge/wizard work.
If GM is allowing for down time to make items?

Benefit: You gain a +2 trait bonus on all saving throws against emotion spells and effects.

Hence being 'evil' no remorse but alas I could be wrong! Trying to help.

I'm probably going to go Gunslinger-no archtype. Being able to us all guns is cool. But the Musket Master and Pistelo are pretty cool.

I'd say go witch or rogue but I like straight classes.

Seems like we got a Summoner (Naeva?), cleric, witch/rogue type, and a ranger.

...In my 8 years or so I've only had 2 games last over 1 year with regular posts.

I can also make lists of terrible experiences.

-Pathfinder players on RPOL are 7/8 times minmaxers who copy guides.
-Combat is dominated by the minmaxers (durrrr) and becomes unenjoyable to all.
-Above minmaxers quickly realize their piece of empty cardboard they copied really isn't what they want to play, so they leave, since combat was the only thing they came for in the first place.
-No one remembers the guys who only made 2-line posts until combat came along, to suddenly post ten times what they did in OOC compared to what they did IC to showcase their system mastery (copied from the aforementioned guides).


..ok so maybe I'm focused on one particular pet peeve of mine. Bite me.



Just don't invite 40 players (literally), then have them all make level 10 characters with mythic rules and then keep everyone waiting for 2 months to start the game before unceremoniously ghosting the game like a certain game I had the misfortune of getting roped into earlier this year.

I always enjoy character creation in our GM's games. There is always a twist to it. This time the dice roller was not kind to me (rolled to many 1's) but I'm still above the 70 min so time to get busy on my sheet.

I know your pain. In the end I landed on the 70 minimum exactly. But that's fine. It just means I have to throw the rest of you in between myself and danger. ^^

I'm open to any race/class suggestions from you more experienced players.

All I pitched was the character: Mike has a sentient sword that wants to consume all souls and bring about nothingness. It's Blackrazor if you're familiar with dnd lore. But Mike is smart enough to pretend like he's in charge and is a serial killer, not that he is the sword's thrall.

So the warden is offering Blackrazor as a reward for good behavior.

Antipaladin might be up your alley. Does a lot of negative energy magic which comes quite close to soul-sucking whilst being a full base attack bonus for excellent sword-swinging and isn't too complex, whilst being super tough. If you're a bit more system-wise, the inquisitor or bloodrager may work quite well for you. The inquisitor gets a lot of skills which is nice, but has more buttons to press in the form of spells, feats and judgements. The bloodrager is a barbarian with magic in his blood.

Great. Then for race human is always good. Alternatively you might want to pick something that swaps the negative/positive energy interaction, so you get healed by negative energy while being harmed by positive energy, like the Dhampir. Works well if you want to dive into the manipulation of the undead. But you can also do that with a feat like Necromantic Affinity, so don't feel like you absolutely have to pick the race.

Wow, I see I've missed a good bit while I was at work.

Antipaladin is most excellent, but there's also a bladebound magus which I think might also be up such a concept's alley. Food for thought.

For myself, seeing all the non-fighty caster types being talked about, I'm beginning to edge towards magus more than rogue. I'll have a good amount of skill points to allocate anyway, what with the intelligence reliance and the human bonus points.

That hits all of us (the lack of motivating factors that allow us to post), so I can respect that. I actually prefer it when games don't fire out the gate to where more than half the players are making 3-4 posts a day.

Well if your a Rogue its definatly a possibility.

Rogues get 8 + Int + 1 for being human.

A ranger gets 6 + Int +1 for being human.

So Marcia would get 6 + 1 Int + 1 for being human +1 for level 1. 9 total I believe.

Thanks.  I found one site that had the +4 pts at 1 level for being human, but I think that's mistake from an earlier edition.

And then it's +1 per level, and an additional skill rank at level 1. So..multiple confusions.

Hey, think you're missing the context of why this was brought up in the first place.

We're not in a movie. We've yet to play in this game that will feature criminals and killers to cause mayhem. There will be plenty of time to, in-character, indulge, to some degree, in a slurry of unseemly deeds.

This context is about the celebration of the objectification of others out of character, and no one has to stand for that.

Kholt has apologized, and Mike has expressed his regrets. So why don't you try not stepping on people's ability to feel comfortable and try some consideration? Geesh :)

I approve of drawbacks for mechanical translation of character backstory. I'm pretty fixated on making my characters as close mechanically to their personality and background as possible. It's definitely fun for me.

And as far as an Achilles' Heel goes, those Major Drawbacks are brutal; had a character die because their vulnerability to evocation got them thoroughly disintegrated.

Regular Drawbacks and I think people have built without background skills in mind so far so I guess not.

So do we as characters have an idea as to what our mission(s) entail yet?

Things like whether it's localized, how much of a leash we have, if we have an HQ, is it urban or rural, etc.

I'm asking because my STR right now is weak-ass, and didn't know how much gear my character would be packing. If it's nothing like a long excursion, or if accommodations in a cell are being provided, he would have no need for a bedroll or backpack or cooking pot.

Also, are any of us playing a tank or healer?

Hi everyone.

My cleric's done, but he doesn't have spontaneous healing, but he can throw out cure lights at the start of the day if needed (he's more of a summoner).

If we ever get any money, he's got enough Use Magic to use a wand of cure light.

OK it seem I will be making loads of cure light wounds potions after the first adventure.

Also, Hil, unless I have been sorely mislead in prior games, you don't need UMD to use a wand with a spell on your spell list. If you're a cleric you'll have no trouble using a CLW wand.
Which is good, because I had to cut corners for now and not invest in UMD myself.

Wrenched my back a bit at work yesterday so spent most the of the day after work nursing my wounds. Just caught up and wanted to throw out that if we don't have a tank I can always change my class. With the Slayer I was going to be melee help and add some trickery as we went along but I can change to Fighter or Barbarian to cover that front line. I have an 8 roll for ability's that I can use in INT and then you all can con me into really being a meat shield.

Inflict wounds shoud be the same as cure wound potions so 50 gold.

Oh and if you took Ancestrial Armor and grabbed scale mail...

AC is 15 then and its masterwork.

Dumb question as I mever used a Mutagen before. If I want to use it does it count as a 'extract'? or are they 2 different things? Played a alchemist but never used a mutagen. Thanks!

Mutagens and Extracts are two separate things. Extracts are basically an alchemist's Spell list per day and Mutagen is much closer to a Barbarian Rage.

Yeah I know what mutagens and extracts are. I know I can make as many mutagens a day as i want but every time I make one, the last one goes inert.

So they are totally seperate-good.

I like using mythweavers. You have to make an account bit it's free, and hosts sheets for a bunch of systems. You also have to remember to set the sheets to public instead of private in the settings page when you make the sheet, mind.

Ironically I'm probably the most dexterious (22 Dex) and smartest (18 Int) but don't act like it lol!

 I'm close to that in Dexterity, but strength and Constitution is my focus. When I reach Level two though, I won't just have rages at my disposal, but my Mutagen transformation too.(Barbarian/Alchemist)

 Do you know how common demons are in a fantasy universe? Heck it's a whole category in the monster manuals. It's highly doubtful that in the current state it is in, that the Demon is more than just an imp.

Yet not everyone has seen one before. So in turn some have demons around them. Some never seen one before. Others think they are just bedtime stories. Also most demons are very powerful. Even imps can do some damage and kill people. Imps are pretty impressive and thats the low end of demons. More go invisible and stalk you of course. But having DR, immune to some things, resistance to others. Or Vrock. Pretty powerful. It also depends on the type of universe your in too. Is it steampunk mixed with magic? What kind of magic? Or just magical in nature? Is it low magic? Who can develop the powers? Stuff like that.

By the way I'm enjoying the game. Playing a goblin is pretty fun.

Magic seems to be abundant here, yet there some levels of tech being developed by the Dwarves and Gnomes particularly. Just under Steampunk with magic I'd say. Closer to Age of Piracy including the primitive firearms.

Hil does a fair amount of summoning and has "profane knowledge" so I figured he'd be more interested than horrified by this. Plus he speaks Abyssal.

I think Marcia has been adopted. Now who is next? lol!

Also DM, what 'horses' are provided? Just basic horses or a variety? Looking for a odd mount like a goblin dog or something different like a ram or a boar? Perhaps a gecko? Skunk or monitor lizard would be funny. Kholt won't go near a horse!

Glitterdale would ask only for the cloaks for the group he is in and if horse and saddle is free then that would be great.  Would not expect more than that.

Hey gang. I sent a PM to the DM telling 'em I'm going to bail. Well I got a Dex of +6, +8 from race, bonus of +1 from stealthy hunter, ect. +3 from class....

Slight difference for me. +6 from Dex, +6 from race (small +4 racial +2), 1 rank, 3 Class Skill. +16 total.

Probably should have gone Rogue but eh. Always try to do new things, course goblin alchememists aren't new...

Hey, with no one coming to the stables and everyone meeting at the Inn, including the folks Glitterdale told Greb to wait for, I needed a way to logically join the group. Implying that Glitterdale said that to Greb to get him killed out fits with both the feel of this game, and the natural animosity between elves and goblins.

Frankly, at this point if you’re going to try to pull a knife on someone to threaten them, I think the GM needs to be involved and initiative needs to be rolled.

It does seem like battle is engaging or about to be. I may have to do something like that, unless I don't think it's gone too far and I feel someone's mind should be blown.

Honestly, it was dramatic license. After being ditched at the stables I needed a reason to reintroduce myself to the group. The narrative that Glitterdale deliberately left Greb behind to get him killed when Banner thought Greb had cut-and-run made a lot of sense (this being an oh-so-clever elf trying to fool a smarter-than-usual goblin). So Greb is warning that he wasn't fooled, and won't be trusting Glitterdale any time soon.

Did you clear that dramatic license with Glitterdale's player ahead of time?

Did you clear it with GM ahead of time?

Does Glitterdale have equal dramatic license to turn your character into a frog or slice of gingerbread?

Now that you've threatened Glitterdale, does Marcia has dramatic license to shoot Greb on sight?

What I'm seeing is that you were told that you couldn't join Group A. Both in character and OOC.

Instead of making any effort to interact with Group B, you're making a bunch of assumptions which are entirely incorrect and unwelcome.

You have a lot other alternatives for roleplaying. Please respect a No.
