Re: Day 2 Sub-thread - Off to Umberage Hill

Sakamoto was surprised when Akyra and Khorth moved into rapid action against the Redcloaks. Certainly communication between the group would need to be worked on, but as Sakamoto thought this, he smoothly went into alert mode, carefully watching for any other Redcloaks to notice them.

BonThot moves closer to Sakemoto, nods amicably and asks, "May I watch with you? It seems things are getting interesting.

He does, however, begin to form semantic gestures in advance of actions. His eyes are sharp and aware.

"Feel free." comes Sakamoto's mental response. He then positions his body so that he can be defensive of BonThot while continuing his surveillance of the surroundings.

Re: Day 2 Sub-thread - Off to Umberage Hill

Both of the Thayans seem to be shaken by Khorth's display and threat to eat them. Thayans are no stranger to threats and violence, but this was the first time anyone had ever offered to eat them, not to mention having the teeth to actually back up such a claim. Hands went to sword hilts, ready to defend in case an attack did come, with one standing his ground with a nervous look while the other backed off a couple of steps, pale in the face, and checking positioning as if to calculate his odds of survival if he were to flee.

The one who stood his ground was the one to actually reply, "Zee lair? Sure, sure. Zee old manor on zee hill?" He pointed to the east-northeast part of town, where a ways off you could see a large house atop a hill. "We lair in zee basement. You sink you can eat us all lizard man? I sink it vill be you who vill become dinner, zen."

The other man's eyes grew wide as his companion answered. He turned and started running, shouting an unfamiliar word in a language none of you understood.

Akyra saw the man run and she took off after him as he ran, at full pace, leading with her shield, she tackled him full on like a battering ram, knocking him to the ground.

Despite her intentions, the execution was off and she managed a push of the man instead of the intended knock over. "You can't run from me, fleshbag!" She growled.

<OOC: Akyra rolled 6 using 1D20+3 - Athletics check (Push)>

Re: Day 2 Sub-thread - Off to Umberage Hill

The Thayan who had attempted to flee was knocked to the ground by Akyra, even as the dragonborn had stumbled her way toward him in doing so. As it was happening, Pavel drew back an arrow and spoke an enchantment upon it, then loosed. The arrow hit and burst into a writing mass of vines that wrapped the man up tight before he'd even hit the ground. The man opened his mouth again as if to shout something at you, but one of the vines worked its way up and across the man's open mouth, forming a perfect gag. Not to mention, the vines began sprouting thorns that pierced into the man's lips and cheeks.

The one who remained standing relaxed his hands from the sword hilts and held one hand in the other in front of him, "Serves him right, ze coward. I have answered your question, no?"

The bound one lying on the ground gave muffled screams, both in anger and pain as the thorns dug slowly into his skin.

Akyra felt herself stumble and cursed herself, though she never thought it would work. She had satisfaction seeing that, but when the arrow struck and the vines came out, she looked back and nodded at Pavel, impressed. When he spoke, she turned, ignoring the groaning man’s pain. “You have a choice now…,you leave this town and never return, or you try go back to your friends and die, because rest assured, we are going there and going to clean out your rats nest.”

She crossed her arms, waiting an answer from the man

I have yooour scent nooow. If I smell yooou in tooown again, I will hunt yooou dooown and eat well. Take him and leave this place, fooorever.

His cold reptilian eye on the mercenaries, he waited, licking his lips.

The Dragonborn smiled as Khorth as he spoke and drew her dagger, crouching low. “Your a lucky little rat..,your friend has saved you.” She started cutting the vines holding him in place, then stood, still holding the dagger. “Run little rat.”

She stood in front of him, ready for if he should run again

Sakamoto had watched the events unfold before him quietly and alertly. When the one attempted to flee, his muscles flinched in anticipation of action. However, as Pavel's arrow struck home, Sakamoto returned to watching their surroundings.

Re: Day 2 Sub-thread - Off to Umberage Hill

The two Thayans took off, as the group dismissed them, heading west while the group went east toward the inn where Gundren, Don-Jon, and Bharkel should most likely be. Along the way, a quick stop at the Shrine of Luck, where the bundle of potions was turned over to Nyevnen and James Owlson perched in silent watch.

The acolyte thanked the group for retrieving the potions. By way of thanks, she said a prayer to the goddess of luck, asking for her blessings to be upon you. (Everyone gains Inspiration.)

With the small matter of business out of the way, it was time to regroup with the Barbarian, and then deal with the Thayan threat. Upon arriving at the inn, you find Gundren and Don-Jon there in the common room, along with a small handful of other locals.

As you start to get caught up on the goings on, Gundren shares some news, "Not long after you left, a commotion was heard outside, and Bharkel and I went to have a look. The Thayans had killed an elven man, the local woodcarver, in front of his wife and children. Bharkel and I fought and killed the Thayans, but Bharkel insisted on escorting the woman and her two children to Bharkel's ancestral home in the woods to the north, to protect her from the Thayan retaliation. I tried to talk her out of it, offering my protection as well, but the barbarian would hear none of it. Spooked as she was, the intensity drove her to agreeing, and they were gone in no more than five minutes."

Re: Day 2 Sub-thread - Off to Umberage Hill

Akyra walked in silence as they approached the shrine, and when the potions were handed over, she nodded with a draconic smile, knowing words were not needed.  When they arrived at the inn and sat down, she listened, hands clenching. When Gundren finished, she hissed something in her native togune - it wass clear to all it was some curse aimed at the Thayians.

She took a breath, and looked at the dwarf. Holding out her hand, she indicated Khoth. "This is Khoth, he helped us in the task with the alchemist. Long story short, we found a long hidden tomb with a dragon skeleton and sword of a dragoin slayer." She drew the longsword. "...i was going to suggest Bharkel wield it, but now that is moot."

She looked at Thoth. "this is Gundren and Don-Jon - both packmates. They were injured, but are healing."

She looked at Gundren. "The Thayians need to be dealt with and now - unless you have pressing matters, i suggest we deal with them before we search for your homeland.....the towns saftey is more important." The dragonborn had a little too much eagreness in her voice.

...she wanted their blood

BonThot felt his anxiety melting away now that the group was together and whole. Word of a Barbarian creased his ears, but that was something that would have to wait, apparently. For now, food was of the greater consequence. He called out the cook, "a full meal, please!"

Gundren stood and stared into Khorth's eyes nostrils flaring as he sniffed audibly, inhaling whatever scent he might pick up from the lizardfolk, then nodded shallowly, "Well met, Khorth. We all thank you for your assistance."

He glanced then toward the rest of the group, giving everyone a look over before addressing Akyra, "The Thayans like to gather at a tavern across the square," he pointed in the direction, "They have another base of sorts around here somewhere, but we haven't managed to tease that out of anyone just yet." It seemed he was not aware of the abandoned manor on the hill.

Don-Jon spoke up briefly, "The Thayans are quick, and skilled with their blades, so be wary. I don't think they care much for fighting fair either, if you catch my meaning."

Khorth looked at the dwarf and his companions, letting the dragonborn do the introductions as he was sniffing around. The smell of cooked meat almost made his stomach heave, and he concentrated on keeping his last meal in himself. Then something caught his attention, and he turned to the cleric.

Is this the dwarf that yooou said needed rescuing? He seems fine tooo me, nooow we need tooo hunt thooose red creatures and we can eat well befooore hunting the dragooon. I am getting hungry, I shooould have killed that runner.

The lizard folk's tail was twitching in anticipation, ready for the hunt.

"Khorth my friend, it seems you appreciate certain delicacies similar to my flying friend. Maybe after we conclude this business in town the three of us can hunt together. There should be plenty boar and venison to fill our bellies. Although come to think of it my friend might prefer the mice." Pavel said.

He looked at the others. “What say you all….a rat hunt?”
