That plaque on the stone wall is the newest thing in the building.

The man behind the counter has a red leather jacket and a red UPC code tattooed on his forehead. For all intents and purposes he looks like Ryan Gosling and doesn't have much emotion when he greets you, "Good morning. Dining or staying?"

To the left is the International House of Breakfast. To the right, stairs lead to the dozen guest bedrooms.

Ember stepped away from the guys and up to the front desk. “Staying. I need a room  with a king-sized bed and a view.”

Ryan takes your money with no further questions  and hands you a real actual key to room 112.

“You know how this works?”

ok, i guess he asks a question after all.

“Oooo, we’re going all ‘Forgotten Realms Retro’ here!” Ember accepted the key with a smirk. She held it up, relishing a callback to a beloved flirtation with all things Victoriana…and older. “Yeah. I know how to use it. Insert and turn.

Give me a wake up call in 8 hours.”

Ryan half smiles, like you've almost given him purpose in life. "This place has been in the Stonehill family for generations. That key is over 200 years old. Sweet dreams...if you do that sort of thing."

He scribbles a note on honest to Lathander real paper regarding the wake up call.

Then he looks up at the boys. "That was the one and only King bed, I've got double fulls or queens."

Hayes chuckles.  "Jarod, if you want a room to yourself, all well and good, but if not two fulls'll be fine with me.  Heck, even the queen and a vaguely comfortable chair's okay - I've slept standing up in an AV-4, anything's more comfortable than that."

“You boys can make a pillow fort. Have fun!” Ember waggled her fingers back at Daniel & Jarod as she headed for her room.

"Meal and a bed for me." He gave Daniel a nod, "Sharing's fine with me, I can sleep through anything but someone touching me, so I don't even care if you snore. If you do touch me, just don't do it standing near my face, or I might kill you before I realize you're really you."

"I like your style." Ryan hands you the key to room 106 once you pay.

The stairs are solid stone and mortar. Centuries of grime have built up around the less traversed parts so that the middle is shiny and polished and the edges dark black. The hallway is wood, lined with a few modern rugs, with 6 doors on each side.

Room 112 has a kingsize bed, a TV that takes up only half of the wall, and a gorgeous hot tub in the shape of a heart. Call it the honeymoon suite.

Room 106 has two full size beds, a TV that takes up only half of the wall, and one of those annoying bathtub/shower combos that screams "when the kids move out we're remodeling the bathroom."

Ember wrinkled her nose in disgust when she spotted the grimy edges of the steps. The mold was NOT cute. I should punish them on Yelp, but I’m not into Karening like that. She approached her door, and still managed a slight smile when she heard the *CLICK* of the key. The quaintness of an old-fashioned key delighted her!

When Ember entered the room, she couldn’t hold back the smile at the hot tub. Locking the door, she turned on the wall-mounted flatscreen TV. Ember cast her “Bardity” app, selecting her favorite Dreampop list. Several minutes later, Ember luxuriated in a bubble bath, eyes closed as she let her facial mask work a special kind of magic.

Determined not to get his ass kicked by Jarod, Daniel makes it a point to not touch his partner while he sleeps - no big task, as he'll be in a separate bed, but you can't be too careful these days.

"I've seen worse," he says as he surveys the inn room, a faint purple LED flashing behind his left eye.  "Definitely seen better, but I've seen worse.  Let me just make sure that's not a jump to conclusions, though."
