The Story So Far

Theme: Cracks in the Shattered Mirror
The gilded skyline of New York, the city that never sleeps, which for the Bound is as much of a calling as it is a slogan. Just as the city represents a truly cosmopolitan world so to do the restless dead who linger in Twilight. Many are vengeful, some long for a legacy, that which Anchors the dead here is as numerous as the reasons for people to go on living. But this city perhaps uniquely has more then its fair shear of Ghost caught up in human cruelty and supernatural conspiracy. It is in these cracked lives which the Bound must do their work.

Mood: Macabre Noire
Ghost leave Anchors, it is these Anchors which prevent them from Passing on, resolving these Anchors are difficult enough made all the more challenging with the fact that most Ghosts are not forthcoming with them. Those Bound which take up the mantle of Sin Eaters then must know how to read between the lines as they delve into the often tragic and violent things which keep a Ghost from moving on.

The Story So Far

Prologue Part 2

The Bleak Hearts were summoned to Church which in truth was just a rundown grave keepers abode located in the Cypress Hills Cemetery by Cecil O'Neill, the de facto leader of the Krew by virtue of his experience and mild mannered demeanor. He had spent the last couple of weeks shepherding Ray, Faith, and Jason through their first steps as fully realized Sin Eaters.

The Krew gathered and all its members meet for the first time, seemingly second in seniority was Ophelia Delaney, a cold women with connections and wealth she carries herself with an arrogant aloofness. Then there was Sami Torres a rough looking man who was obviously new to the city, he did not entirely get along with Ray.

Engaging in some small talk Ray mentioned an auction of oddities that was allegedly taking place on Staten Island but he lacked the means by which to get into such a place. Fortunately Ophelia had no such limitations and offered to help if only to have something to hold over Ray in the future. Nevertheless Ray was more interested in a rumored book then anything Ophelia might want of him in the future. Convincing Sami to join her in this mission left Cecil and the three newcomers to address the issue of a Deathmask which Cecil had been tracking.

The experienced Sin Eater believed that the mask was in the possession of an individual with a mysterious background who has been corresponding with Jason. It was decided that Jason who was invited by the stranger would take Faith who would act as his manager while Ray would endeavor to break into and steal away with the Deathmask while Cecil would observe.

Making their way to the dreary wear house where Jason was invited to. Faith and Jason were greeted coldly by their host who seemed defiant that Jason brought an associate but the pair were able to put him at ease and made their way into the wear house and were greeted by the spectacle of elaborate and grotesque scene of people in scenes stitched and sliced positioned in a way so as to put on a scene.

While Jason and Faith were greeted by the grisly display Ray called upon the power of his Geist to hide his presence and break into the macabre workshop. Making his way through the gore and viscera he uncovered a door which lead to a stairwell. Making his way downstairs seemed to be a makeshift prison where the stranger kept his prisoners while upstairs was his residence.

Within the room Ray uncovered a grim painting which depicted him and his two companions and he set to looking for the mask while the other two were greeted by their host who seemed captivated by something of the performance put on by Jason and Faith. When the artist began to coax Faith into participating in his grim art only for a sudden phone call to compel him to stop. When they put more pressure on their host he revealed himself to be a Vampire by ensanguineateing his captive.

Playing to his derangement Faith and Jason were able to distract their host long enough for Ray to escape with the mask. With their task complete Cecil took the Mask to deal with it properly.

The Story So Far

Chapter 1

The Bleak Hearts again gathered at Church with the new trio vine versed in what they are and the purpose of the Krew they were now fully initiated into the Krew. Sami and Ophelia were still preoccupied looking into the auction brought up by Ray. After waiting for a time and conversing some Ophelia mention  how odd Cecil’s tardiness was bringing some measure of concern to the rest of the Krew, she tried to ease this tension by saying he was looking into the past of his Geist but this did little to ease the tension.

Driven by this the three newcomers felt it warranted to investigate this strangeness making their way to the emergency bedroom at Church they began investigating. Jason looked over the computer, Faith looked over the ledgers field away there while Ray looked over the rest of the room in pursuit of clues.

Their investigation revealed that several days ago Cecil traveled to the old Echo Apartment Complex and in the Ledger it was uncovered that he was making strange and substantial payments to a Charles Ross. Delving first into the history of the apartments the Krew learned that the city was engaged in an extensive legal battle over the property with the city trying to take possession of the property as part of a revitalization project but strangely the city has seen little success.

While Charles Ross had no obvious connection to the Echo Apartment Complex it seemed his parents received a substantial legal settlement shortly before their deaths some twenty years ago although the reasons for this were unclear.

With only one real lead the Krew set out for the Echo Apartment Complex and they were greeted with the sad state of affairs that the building was in. Smashed windows, damaged doors, water stained roofs and heartless concrete.

They were meet at the front by a Ghost who clearly lingered there for some decades, he seemed to have an aversion to Charles Ross. Not pressing to much further on that topic the Krew learned of the laudable past of the apartment and the sham it has become. They learned that this man was killed by criminals who wanted more money out of their investment.

Moving on, the Krew meet with Charles Ross who was a disgusting man but with some prying the Krew's questions.

[*] Cecil was there two days ago.
[*] He paid a hefty sum for the meeting.
[*] He spoke with Charles for an hour and spent another hour doing something else.

It was not to long before the Krew noticed another younger Ghost lingering about leaving Ray to entertain Charles while they continued the investigation. They made their way to a locked off room they seemed lost in another time. What struck them as odd was one wall so half hazardly put.

Neal Ross was the name of the young Ghost the unknown younger sibling of Charles. he revealed that he died running away from the Penmark Children's and Young Adults Reform Academy.

With that solid lead Neal confirmed Cecil was looking into the academy and they uncovered that Neal's body was hidden in the wall and that Harold was happy to live with that truth being hidden provoking Faith to unleash her Rage.

The Story So Far

Chapter 2

Ray was quick to call emergency services for Charles Ross but the Krew was not keen to linger until they arrived and with their lead departed the Echo Apartments and made their way to the  Penmark Academy in a secluded nearly abandoned portion of Staten Island. Some tertiary research revealed that the building was built by the Penmark Family in 1907, the family made their fortune as business magnates working with the rail roads, steel, and fossil fuels. Despite everything the family did have financial difficulty towards the end of the century coming to an arrangement with the state that saw their family estate converted to the academy until it was finally closed in 2017 after controversy including claims of abuse and fraud.

Observing the premises the Krew quickly came to the understanding that this place was less of a school and more or less just a mislabel children’s prison. Easily finessing their way past the front gate the hidden darkness in the school became apparent as it’s cold facade imposed over them past the barren desert like asphalt parking lot.

Faith and Jason noticed the decayed remains of a crucifix as they made their way into the condemned building. The remains of the lobby consisted of 2 offices, one belonging to Lina Wheeler who taught Languages Arts and Social Studies while Zack Waters taught Math and Science, lastly there was a security checkpoint. The Krew split up for a time with Ray investigating Zacks office, Jason investigating Lina’s and Faith tackling security.

Jason was taken aback by the clutter and general unorganized state that Lina’s office was in although he was interested by the hung art of the children that were sent to this place.

Ray found a touch more success in his investigation, it helped that Zack appeared to be a meticulous man with impeccable organization. Ray discovered that the school still had records on Neal Ross and more so it seemed Zack was faired from his previous position in another school for physically striking a student.

In security Faith found what looked to be years of contraband hoarded away for years while she also found a series of three combination safes.

Coming back together and resolve to press on the trio moved forward through the first corridor until they came upon a chapel and a horrific smell. It was then that they meet Father William Greenwood, a rigid old man with sunken charcoal like eyes. He was a ghost who lingered here like so many others but before they might pry to much further other ghostly students ranging in age filled into the pews where the father gave his sermon blasting them for their imperfections and that only through prayer could they make something of themselves. This lead to a quick confrontation with Faith but nothing seemed to come of it.

Once they were done they sought out one of the Prefects to no real avail other then learning their names, one was called Nial Cook and the other Ann Darvey. It was suggested that these two were the best of the Prefects.

The student all gathered in the cafeteria and the trio could feel the almost monstrous aura coming from the Prefects that this was not the time for a confrontation.

It was then that the Krew realized that there were hidden passages and hidden doors throughout but more alarming seemed to be the strange effect on time. It had already slipped into the next day during the short time they were there. Alarmed the Krew looked into one more room, a medical office where they found that someone was doing something here past the facilities closure, before they could delve much further a ghost seemingly began lashing out at them from hiding throwing objects at them compelling a withdrawal.

Dark forces were at work though and when Jason awoke the next day he found himself in an unfamiliar part of the academy.

The Story So Far

Chapter 3

Jason awoke the next night somewhere in the confines of the Penmark Academy, nearly twenty hours had passed since he had fallen asleep. With some anxiety he wandered the halls until finding a working restroom. Eventually taking care of business there he was confronted by the Prefect Kyal Hurst who grabbed Jason with some unseen force and striking him in the gut when the one armed Sin Eater asked basic questions but was rebuffed which in turn brought out his sarcasm.

Jason was told to get to class but Kyal was not to inclined to be helpful, fortunately he encountered Prefect Mara Carr who was more helpful to an extent but it quickly became apparent that the female Prefect was attempting to manipulate and belittle Jason who fortunately resisted long enough to be escorted to the classroom of Zack Waters.

The instructor was a rigid man whose tyrant like authority reigned over his pupils. After a short confrontation class was dismissed and Jason was allowed to go about his business.

Recognizing something was amiss Faith and Ray made their way to the Academy where with some luck they were able to track down Jason. Deciding it best to withdraw and recoup they got out of the academy and gathered the next day to continue their investigation.

The trio again made their way into the academy, they learned that Lee Ann Strangelove was both the head mistress to the academy as well as a consular for the children, she was subsequently married to Dion Penmark the current head of his family, both died in rapid succession as troubles mounted at the Academy with her being pushed from one of the spires and him dying in a car accident.

The Krew meet the Ghost of the maintenance worker, she seemed more earnest then most answering their question and co firming the poor state of affairs at the school. More importantly she mentioned that there were secret rooms not shown on any building plans throughout the building.

They then stumbled upon a room on the fourth floor with a hole in it and a ladder, it was the room where Neal and his friends must have attempted to make their escape at the very least that is what the young Ghost explained. While Faith offered comfort to Neal and Jason stood watch Ray began to explore the facility.

The Story So Far

Chapter 4

In his exploring the third floor of the academy Ray found one of the hidden rooms the ghost of the maintenance worker had mentioned. The room itself was almost gripped in a stagnate stasis with the only thing of interest beyond the cobwebs being a sizable hole in a wall that lead to the space between the walls.

Ray knew that this was more then something he wished to tackle on his own and made haste to retrieve his comrades. The timing was well enough as Neal seemingly vanished.

With the Krew assembled Ray lead them to the suspect room where before to long had passed Jason volunteered to be the first to enter the space between the walls. It was also at this moment that some lingering madness allowed both Ray and Jason to peer past the veil of sanity witnessing a labyrinth of gore mangled gears churning in the walls. Their will was strong enough however to bring them back to reality.

Undaunted Jason dexterously made his way past pipes, wires and jagged nails. Just as he turned a corner he saw w thing rapidly approaching him, a creature comprised of meat and wire, body parts of those lost in this place made up its senseless shape and all Jason could manage was a scream before he was dragged off by the Horror between the walls.

Frantically Faith and Ray set out to find their comrade traversing floor after floor until coming to the first out of desperation. They were confronted by a male Prefect, more passive then the others whom they were able to pass by by force of personality.

In time they encountered the Ghost of Ava Yu who was immediately standoffish and defiant but through some determination and coercion the cruelty of this pace was confirmed as was a greater understanding of its layout and hierarchy.

While Ray and Faith were dealing with the Prefect and Ava, Jason was confronted by headmistress Lee Ann Strangelove, she was a ghost unlike any Jason had seen before commanding power that he could not explain. Disgusted with what occurred here under her care the two battled through wills, while she tried corrupting Jason he countered with a flash back of her death. She answered him with a swarm of insects before fleeing. In a panic Jason ran from the mysterious Memory Hole and emerged beside Faith and Ray.

Sensing his grip slipping it was decided that enough time had been spent here and they needed time to recover. Faith in particular seemed concerned that Jason was beginning to slip.

The next day was off to a slow enough start Jason was wracked by nightmares around the memory hole where the prefects were as was the headmistress, and he seemed to be becoming one of them. Wearily he went about his routine putting out some are to vent some of the anxiety and going to the park.

To Jason’s surprise a young man was waiting there for him with a gift from his morbid pen pal. Jason’s strange infatuation with the grim did strike the young man as odd and left him uneasy and yet he was determined to do his job well even if he was not entirely clear on just what that meant. The man eventually introduced himself as Walker and waited for Jason to finish his business in the park.

Walker was seeming either off out enough or entertained enough to snap a picture of Jason and send it to Faith accusing the former of being a “Serial Killer in the making”.

Faith was in the midst of doing some shopping for the next venture into the academy and instantly made her way to the park upon receiving the text. She was obviously not thrilled at the prospect of who was employing Walker but he used her own logic against her saying that it was a job which she had been so keen on him getting.

Relenting the three members of the Krew gathered, Ray was busy delving into the text gotten to him by Ophelia amongst some tertiary research on other things.

They gathered at Jason’s apartment and the two were unsure if Jason was some kind of mad artistic genius or simply mad as they gazed upon his work.

After some talking Jason explained his risk taking, claiming his own worthlessness and the emptiness he feels for surviving whose his own sister was not so fortunate. He claims that the others in the Krew are of greater value then him which is why he takes risk as he does. Confronted on this Ray was likewise compelled to confess some of his own background that he had lost his sister in something of a mystical accident and was further burdened by his fathers distaste for him, he revealed that he seeks answers about what happened to his sister although there seemed to be a thread of hope to his feeling of loss. Faith in turn divulged some of her secrets namely her connection to Walker and perhaps more greatly her association with a mystery religion.

Revealing the truth of their deaths seemed to fortify the purpose of the Krew and garnered the appeasement of the trios Geist.

The Story So Far

Chapter 5

The Krew knew all to well that they had to go back to the Academy, in the end their need for answers and the ghostly energy known as Plasam made it inevitable. Prepared as they were the Krew made their way into the Academy when Jason pondered that one of the Rites taught to them by Cecil could be of use in finding him.

Jason and Faith went about collecting materials that might assist in the rite but it quickly became apparent the Ms. Strangelove was keen to their presence. With her psychotic powers already planted in Jason she strove to drive him further under her power with hallucinations and pain. Faith at first disregarded the manic nature that was befalling Jason as a delusion but quickly came to realize a Ghost was haunting him. She struggled to snap him back to reality as Ray came upon the scene after attempting to investigate some noise in the background.

There was a sudden flash of light that seemed to disturb Strangelove’s power. In that instant of reprieve Faith noticed a young man looking at her through a mirror and as a window frosted over the words “hide” appeared.

Not wishing to risk another attack the Krew took flight, fleeing to the familiar wing of the academy and took refuge as the creature that had grabbed Jason between the walls attempted to track them.

They successfully hid from the horror and carried out the ritual. A vast deathly emptiness opened up beneath Jason as he channeled the powers of death to get in contact with Cecil. He delivered three stark warning to the new sin eaters.
  • Be wary who you trust.
  • Find Kayne Burn
  • Find the gate behind the locked door.

The conversation with Cecil was short he seemed to be under some manner of duress but the source of which is not immediately clear.

Deciding to break their way through the one way door to the manner Ray used the tools procured by Faith to begin breaking apart the door. As he worked Jason and Faith returned to the medical room of Doctor White. They knew the last time they were greeted violently but masquerading as a student Jason was able to speak with the man. He was definitely one of the Academies more sentient Ghost. His presence was painful to Jason as if scanning him in a sense. Other then a crass demeanor though the doctor revealed little.

Deciding it best to delve into his background the Krew learned that the good doctor was more of a researcher then a physician. His research pertained to the effect prolonged exposure unknown energy had on the body and mind. Between his government connections, and research it became clear why the public was so ignorant of this place for so long. What was unclear was why he survived longer then any one else involved with the academy.

Ray broke down the door which lead to the Penmark library, the countless volumes were mostly of little interest bar a series of black bound books tied together with chains. The books were written in an old form of Greek which Faith was uniquely knowledgeable about. Of the five volumes they found they learned that the author explored the concept of the underworld, states of immorality, and the subject of divinity. Faith was intrigued absconding with the books. The Krew knew that one book was missing from the collection but before they could explore further they were confronted by Dion Penmark.

Dion was a brick of a man large in so many strange ways with a moth of serrated teeth but he was clearly dim. When confronted with some conviction he had to fetch his wife.

Taking the opportunity to withdraw the Krew made their flight from the library but the power of Strangelove stretched out across the whole of the academy. The ceiling tore open and mutilated bodies fell like a torrent of rain. Without any choice they ran but Jason could not escape Strangelove’s power and was subsumed by the gore.

Ray and Faith were more fortunate as they escaped the attack and ultimately encountered the ghost of Kayne Burn who found a hiding place for them. He explained that he lead the misadventure that lead to the deaths of Neal and others when they failed to escape the academy. He offered to help take on Strangelove and the academy leading them to her consultation room.

He revealed Strangelove’s desire, to grow the power of the academy by recruiting Jason it seems to bring yet more people to this cursed place.

While Ray and Faith were dealing with Kayne, Jason found himself again in the memory hole being abused by the powers of ms. Strangelove. Jason for his part held his own against the manipulation and again called upon his powers and flooded the room with the energy at his command. It was in this instant that something seemed to break in the occult mechanism of the memory hole, the hidden gears came to a grinding halt while unseen pipes burst and the academy got became the epicenter of a supernatural quake ushering waves of energy across the city.

The Story So Far

Chapter 6

The Academy roiled caught up in a storm of conflicting supernatural energies. Jason again made his escape from the Memory Hole as the arcane device broke down. Meanwhile Faith, Rae, and Kayne moved with speed to get to somewhere that seemed stable.

With some luck they all meet at the main entrance of the Academy where, Ms Strangelove appeared, expressing both disappointment and approval as she tried to take Layne by force.

The Krew fought back and after Faith lashed out with her Rage compelled Strangelove to withdraw but it was all to clear that this ghost needed to be dealt with. Despite Kayne’s condition the Krew pressed on eventually finding their fellow Bleak Heart Sami Torres minadering the Academy. He claimed to be helping Ophelia doing some research of her own, with the assessment being one that they had picked up the trail looking for Cecil.

After a brief council with Ophelia it was determined that Ms. Strangelove was no ordinary Ghost as well as rumors that member of the Penmark family being Necromancers being discussed. It was decided it would be best to break the Corpus of Ms. Strangelove so the Krew might have time to figure out a more proper solution.

They then set out to confront Ms. Strangelove in her office not before Faith unleashed her Geist to battle her guardian pet. The confrontation with Ms. Strangelove started with words mostly between her and Jason. As the conversation went on Faith slowly made her way towards the strange window.

Ms. Strangelove fell into a rage of her own once Faith shattered the window. Her powers were unleashed as swarms of insects assailed all the room. Sami was quick unnerved but so much overt supernatural action while Faith confined to lash out at a raging and. Strangelove.

With the window smashed a new room was revealed, it was a simple space with two striking features. The first of these being an Avernian Gate seemingly carved into the building as well as the Deathmask which brought the three of them into the Bleak Hearts in the first place.

Chasing an opportunity Rae passed Kayne to Jason and entered the fray with his own powers. As the struggle went on Kayne whispered to Jason that he could defeat Strangelove he only needed help.

Jason ran to Faith’s side taking the Deathmask before giving it to Kayne. The determined ghost knew he had to be the one to take down Ms. Strangelove and placed the mask upon himself and in the process became a Reaper. Faith was upset by the turn of evens just as Jason and Rey were largely ignorant of what they saw.

Ms Strangelove however was in a state of total horror, before she could attempt to flee Kayne tossed her into the Underworld without hesitation. He turned to the Krew thanking them for aiding him before vanishing himself.

The supernatural strangeness instantly came to an end and the dust cleared, the Krew could feel many of the captive ghost released from their Anchors.

The Krew was again able to get in contact with Cecil who revealed he was somewhere in the Autochthonous Depths, the upper most part of the Underworld, he had shelter and enough to sustain himself for sometime. He reiterated the need for the Krew to be cautious who they trusted while simultaneously suggesting they go back to Church in search of answers likewise that there was a Krew that could offer them more information on the Underworld.

The Story So Far

Chapter 7

The halls of the Penmark Reform Academy for Children and Young adults lays silent, Ms. Strangelove has been banished to the Underworld and the Bleak Hearts know their leader lays somewhere within the Autochthonous Depths awaiting them. While Kayne has been unleashed on the city as a Reaper the Krew accepts this as a necessary thing for what has been accomplished.

Cecil repeated his warning of being careful who they trusted and told them not to make their way to the Underworld without knowing what they were getting into. His final suggestion was that there was to find the information hidden in the church.

The members of the Krew then made their way home, Faith arriving at the apartment she sheared with her family attempted to decompress after all that had happened only to be taken aback at Walker getting home later then her, following a brief confrontation she found out that one of her peers were paying him rather well at that matter. Waking up later in the morning she began doing research on commercial property and found the idea to transform the Penmark Academy into a better place.

Jason returned home to find someone had broken into his apartment and cleaned, organized, and even a warm dinner set for him. There was no doubt in his mind that his special friend was some how involved. Despite all of this he was inspired and released an early teaser of his work earning quick praise from his online fans. The next morning he still had not slept seemingly driven by the high of success. He went to the park received a gift from his friend notably in the form of a freshly plucked human eye.

Rae returned to his home and had a much more calm feel for things delving into the matters related to Dr. White. He confirmed all the things they learned in the Academy and more so that there seemed to be some kind of decline in his conflictive function. Regardless the final communication indicated that he had found some measure of success.

Later the next day the trio gathered at Church looking into the secrets alluded to by Cecil. It took some prying but some key things were learned. Firstly, the records which they have access to only seem to date back the last few years. Faith found a URL noted down in one of these ledgers and Jason followed it up leading to a crude website dedicated to some upstate caving club.

While Jason toiled with the website Rae and Faith looked for more and the secrets they found did not disappoint. They learned that Cecil had obfuscated the Krews origins when in truth it was founded by Union soldiers returning from the Civil War, more so the Krew boasted truly boastful numbers until issuers began to arise in the 1960’s.

Jason then learned of the Ferrymen the splinted Krew behind the website breaking into its backend he saw pictures and videos of people seemingly being brought to the Underworld as a punishment.

Ophelia and Sami subsequently arrived, and Ophelia was able to answer questions when pressed. She confirmed that either the Ferrymen or the Bleak Hearts are splinters from one another, she was unclear. There also was a dramatic event dating back a few years where several members of each Krew died in an ambush in the Underworld. What bad feelings there were following the Heresy were only worsened.

The Ghost That Knows also confirmed much of these truths, Cecil was the leader of the Bleak Hearts only in the last few years and there was indeed a Heresy.

Through the website the Bleak Hearts were able to call for the leader of the Ferrymen to parlay with them. He was a man named Marco Archer and despite his distant demeanor he was willing to work with the Bleak Hearts and lead an expedition into the Underworld in return for two favors.

Deal with the Ferrymen

Marco wants a Grimiore which details places of power in the Underworld. This book was compiled by generations of Necromancers that worked in the safety of the city. Now the book is in the possession of a powerful Necromancer who works out of a penthouse in Manhattan. The book is described a bound in black leather with red veins.

One of the Ferrymen has a problem with gambling and ended up in debt to a man named Luca. The Ferrymen are people of their word and want to clear their debts. Luca is importing something from overseas but he does not trust the people he is dealing with he would like help ensuring everything goes smoothly to compensate him for his losses.

The Story So Far

Chapter 8 and 9

The Krew made their way to the Succubus Club, it was a seedy night club with an edgy slant. Standing three stories tall it was massive for such a venue and seemed to attract a large crowd where some of the Bleak Hearts stood out more then others. Fortunately with some social maneuvering the three fanned out in pursuit of their contact Luka. They had only vague description of him and an understanding that he has an inclination for gambling.

Jason hit the dance floor, Rae made his way to the bar, and Faith went to the second floor. At the bar Rae had little luck but it was obvious that the bartender he was questioning knew more then he was letting on.

Jason likewise found himself awkwardly milling through the crowd, by rights he should have fans amongst them but his unease was clearly evident. The tension was only eased when his associate surprised him and after a small exchange it was suggested that he get out to the Succubus Club more often.

Faith encountered Walker on the second floor who unsuccessfully tried to slip away, after a brief exchange he revealed that the third floor was invite only, Faith then deduced that this was most likely spot to find Luka.

Faith gathered her allies and got Walker to fetch his employer who she knew had such access and with some convincing the trio made their way to the third floor. Vamperisim was on full display here with the living and the undead freely intermingling. With some detective work the trio tracked down Luka at a gamboling table where red chips seemed to be the anty.

After he won against his competitors the Krew introduced themselves and then agreed to meet the next night to pay off the Ferryman’s debt.

The following evening they meet with Luka by the pier, he was standing there with a briefcase in hand and an almost nervous and desperate disposition.  He explained that he was suspicious of individuals he had smuggling something into the country for him which is why he desired backup for this deal.

After introductions were out of the way a car pulled up with the people Luka was doing business with inside. They were brought dockside to an awaiting boat and without much argument were brought to the cargo ship still at sea. They were then stashed in a simple room while the Krew prepared to present Luka his property.

Making their way bellow deck and before a black sarcophagus with runes etched into it akin to the runes on the Deathmask they had found. Luka eagerly headed over the money and began to obsess over the item. Faith was quick to notice some moments later members of the Krew on the catwalk with rifles taking up position.

The captain then approached with a few of his men suggesting that since Luka could afford to pay them this much he certainly could afford to pay more given his need. Luka was outraged and as he approached the captain was shot in the leg. The fight being on the Sin Eaters jumped into action. Rae sank into Twilight and washed his Plasam along the whole ship allowing to haunt the ship, he first tore down the catwalk  before his allies would be caught in a deadly crossfire and then sealed the bulkhead doors so that only escape was possible. Faith rushed to Lukas side and then taking advantage of the commotion ambushed the captain making a good hit before wrestling with him for his weapon. Meanwhile Jason called upon his own haunting powers letting out an echoing song which compelled the week willed overboard, the capitan endured and landed a good shot on him as a result.

In that same instant the black sarcophagus opened and a decayed and with red body stood from it, the creatures skin was a pale grey and its lifeless eyes shimmered yellow and crimson. It spoke a few words to Luka before looking to the Capitan and in an act of cruel strength ended the man by crushing his skull. He used one of the larger jagged pieces as a plate to offer Luka some of his own blood.

After lapping up the vicious essence Luka suggested the Krew depart which they did in earnest. Finding their way back to the ship which brought them here they made their escape.

They made the call to Marco to tell him that the job was finished and far more risky then they expected. After some back and forth Marco said he would not make them do the second task if they did not want to but that the book that the necromancer has could be helpful.

The Story So Far

Chapter 10 and 11

The Krew was resolved to have this book before their journey into the Underworld. Any advantage they could have was a welcome one after all.

The Krew began going about preparing for what could come next but also taking some time in pursue of some personal interest as well.

Faith began looking at avenues by which she could get involved with the management of the Penmark estate.

Rae looked into the cities history with necromancers and while it took great effort he learned that the founder of the Penmark dynasty was associated with a group called the Masons of Giza, learning that it was a secret society brought down in the 1950’s after allegations of grave robbing.

Jason looked into the best lead he could on the Necromancer and made his way to the Succubus Club wheee he had a short conversation with his artistic friend before making his way to the bar with Rae. There he meet with the clubs owner, the sleekly dressed vampire Tommy Black. Jason was able to coax some information out of him namely that this necromancer seemed to have been a potent player among the Kindred.

With that information in hand Faith went on to meet with Jason who she  had asked to make a tattoo for her. Much to Jason’s growing anxiety the demo pieces he made for her also included demonstrations of the things they experienced in the Penmark Academy. Faith would lead Jason in one of her sects rites and miraculously despite the strange words it seemed to bring Jason peace.

The Krew then gathered and sheared what they had learned and with Sami and Ophelia present decided as a Krew to take on the challenge of securing the book.

The next night came and while all made ready Faith made herself busy acquiring herself a new job and securing a place close but independent of her family to live. Rae sensing danger looked for equipment that might preserve their lives while Jason pursued his artistic interest and completed Faith’s request.

The Krew again gathered and made their way to the Manhattan apartment building. Ophelia would play to role of observer while Sami was perimeter security while the other three would do the leg work. Rae made clever use of his Haunt to sneak into the building and inviting his comrades in past the thoughtless doorman.

Making their way then to the penthouse Jason was miraculously able to pick the lock leading in. They were immediately greeted by a trap, a charred skeletal head with a gold Spanish coin in it mouth sitting atop an obsidian pillar. Fortunately they resisted its influence and when Rae took the coin to observe the skull disintegrated.

They made their way past a locked door and into the library, the room was flanked by old text and a floor of black veined marble, at the center of the room was a strange supernatural object consisting of shards of glass. Jason set out to look for the book as did Faith while Rae was fascinated by the object in the center of the room.

Rae accidentally cut himself and as a drop of blood fell to the floor the marble went back and the broken mirror shards assembled into a sheer cracked surface. Panic and dread set in as they were assailed by yet another trap that made focusing all but impossible.

Through dumb luck Rae triggered a mechanism that revealed a staircase leading to a hidden room where the Krew found the book in question. Making their escape another trap was triggered sucking Rae and Faith into some region of the Underworld while Jason miraculously endured only to be confronted by the necromancer.

The enormity of the situation was not lost on Jason as he could feel the extent of this creatures potency. While he parlayed with the necromancer Faith and Rae found themselves in a desolate cathedral but through some teamwork they found the Avernian Gate that had lead them here and escaped in short order.

They joined Jason in negotiations quickly recognizing the enormity of the situation. Fortune seemed to shine on the as the necromancer agreed to let them take the book but in the future he would ask for a boon from them.

Quickly making their retreat they editors the building where another pair of the necromancers associates were outside. They made their way to the van where Sami and Ophelia were ambushed apparently. Nevertheless they had their book and could prepare for the descent into the Underworld.

The Story So Far

Chapter 12

The Krew gathered outside of the Penmark Academy joined by Marco and the book. To their surprise others were at the Academy. After a challenging infiltration they were confronted by what turned out to be Mages, who Rae pointed out they were members of the Guardians of the Veil which he put as something of secret police.

They were lead by a Mage calling himself Abandon, Faith was immediately out off by the arrogance exerted by the Awakened but after a few words the Mages agreed to allow the Sin Eaters to continue.

Marco opened the Avernian Gate and the Krew passed through, rescuing Jason as he was caught up in the flow of death which passed through the gate.

Then they walked for hours maybe more then that all the while being trailed by bestial Ghost until turning up at a dead city. It seemed to be a portion of the city from one hundred years ago.

Marco lead them to a speak east where he worked to get the groups bearings and as they left they were confronted by Ms. Strangelove am who hid come to dominate the city.  She was insistent on keeping Jason there but the Krew was willing to have none of it. When her minions moved to intercede Faith finally lashed out quickly neutralizing several with her Rage while Rae came to dominate several more. Marco then displayed his mastery of the Void and tore open a massive rift to cover their escape.

The Krew found themselves at the shore of Pishon, the River of Gold following it to Cecils camp and then eventually to their leader only to their horror did they find a Chthonian leading a horde of Ghost out of the River.

The Story So Far

Chapter 13

The Krew decided that the Chthonian needed to be stopped and made the plan to wash it and the ghost away by damming the river. The horde of ghost following the Chthonian grew wise to the scheme so while Rae crafted the structure Faith took the opportunity to unleash her rave yet again smiting their ghost as they attempted to climb the cliff. Jason for his part not being one for violence was marveled at the display of his companions.

As the Ghost began to flee Cecil gave the signal and a vast of gold washed down upon the assembled horde and in that movement the Krew had its victory. Marco then lead to a nearby Avernian Gate where for the first time in weeks the Bleak Hearts were allowed some measure of peace.

Even as the Bleak Hearts enjoyed this peace mystery remained, the closure of the Avernian Gate was dangerous and the Mages they encountered were a likely suspect.

The Story So Far

Chapter 14

It came to be early summer and as the season changed so did the situation the Bleak Hearts would find themselves in. Jason eccentric as ever had grown determined to learn more about his Geist apparently a person connected to the site of the palace of Versailles. Flaunting his wealth he nearly bought corresponding flights to Paris and London respectively when he learned that a journal possibly discussing his Geist existed in the British Imperial Museum.

Before deciding to leave the country, he recalled the fact that Rae worked in a museum and might have some useful contacts. Dragging Rae out of bed early in the morning it turned out he had such a contact. Looking through the record it was revealed that a journal of similar description had recently been archived and that a scan could be sent to Rae before the end of the day. By this point the pair of Sin Eaters had made it to the Park where Walker made what had become the routine exchange. He explained that Faith had a rough time of things and he was playing a surprise party for her and asked if they would play along. They agreed to distract Faith and play their part.

After tucking Jason in as it was, Rae looked for his own answers to his own questions meeting with Marco in an old book store about another prospective journey to the Underworld. Going over the details that he was looking for a fragment of his sister Marco said they would need to go beyond one of the rivers which was a much more dangerous journey. Needing more information on Rae’s sister Marco left it at that until he could secure more information.

Even later that day Faith arranged a meeting with Sammi and would go on to meet with Ophelia and her hulking Geist. She explained her doubts in Cecil and came to an agreement with Faith that something needed to be done but that nothing would be done until she knew what everyone else in the Krew thought.

In the evening the trio lees up for the first time in some time and while they each discussed in some detail the heights of their successes and the lows of their failures since they parted company the main topic of conversation was pertaining to Cecil and the hypocrisy and changes that needed to happen with the Bleak Hearts. With the consensus meet the Krew made their way back to Faith’s apartment where they found the door slightly ajar and Walker there bleeding out in the kitchen from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Story So Far

Chapter 15

Walker was in a state of crisis bleeding as he was Faith rushed forward using a combination of knowledge about how to treat wounds and hearth medicine taught to her by her mysterious peers she was able to keep him from bleeding out right away. Jason was quick to call for emergency assistance but it was clear that even with Faiths treatment Walker’s outlook was bleak. Fortune turned in the favor of the Bleak Hearts as Jason’s mysterious associate appeared, the Vampire seemed displeased with the turn of events, saying he enjoyed his time with Walker. He proposed that he could heal the young man but part of him may be damned in the process, Faith agreed she would not let her family die.

The Vampire proceeded to stab Jason with acute precision leaving him to be rescued by the authorities while he tended to Walker. Rae proceeded to look for clues in vein. Jason was brought to the hospital and the police began a tertiary investigation. Faith got in touch with an associate of hers by the name of Sasha who used her skills to reveal the face of the killer although they did not know who it was. They found a revolver that would later be revealed to be a momento connected with the earliest Bleak Hearts.

Getting in touch with mage Abbadon Rae learned more about Abraham Penmark and his mad schemes, theories were abound and it is believed that Doctor White may have somehow been associated with his work. What was known is that his reach was far as Jason and Rae each learned in kind. Arms and human trafficking hoarding mystical objects human sacrifice were but a few of his machinations. The Penmarks skill for psychological manipulation matched with a connection to a world of Dreams was equally concerning.

The Krew gathered and each went to their business, Cecil and Sami went to the Penmark Academy to continue their investigation while Faith’s sisters conjured an object that would allow her to track down the man who shot Walker.

The Story So Far

Chapter 16

Walker was recovering well in the hospital although he may have been over eager to leave there was some measure of relief for Faith seeing him. The Krew would gather quickly at Church where Cecil was going over some old documents and all that was known would be revealed.

The Masons of Giza were a cult with which Abraham Penmark played a critical roll. Compromised of well to do and connected members of the cities elite they made contacts across the globe and hoarded occult knowledge seeking information on immortality, life, and death. The Cult was dismantled sometime in the 1950’s but not before spawning their successor The Society of Friends.

The Society of Friends on its surface had nothing to do with the Masons of Giza but sheared many of the same members and benefited from the vast resources at their disposal. To an extent the Society of Friends was more successful as it indoctrinated children to see to the long term plans of the group.

Finally the Society of Friends would meet its end in the same period of time when they gathered at a reclusive Long Island Resort which would be devastated by the Storm of Thphon’s Wrath. The survivors were hand children by an unseen power and now with the resources concentrated as they were and the ranks seemingly purged of liability the group would emerge as the Armageddon Club.

Little information exist on the Armageddon Club other then they seem to have a base in the Underworld as Jason learned firsthand and that they seemingly have a nihilistic outlook and have some connection with the Bleak Hearts and Ferrymen as it seems they are lead by Sin Eaters.

Knowing who their enemy was the Krew set out on their best lead on the Armageddon Club being the man who shot Walker. Harnessing her rage and a gift by her own hidden sisterhood Faith lead her Krew to a reclusive drug den where her peers took up position, Rae chasing off the refuse, Jason with Faith while Sami and Cecil were back up.

The man was a husk of a human lost to the madness of addiction he could only refer to his contemptible motivation and the strange face of the man who paid him. Faith was disgusted taking her pound of flesh but there was nothing of value in this creature.

When the Krew departed they heard a deathly scream from the room they departed and rushed back. Sami was first and was struck by a blast of green flame. The ma’am was dead his face seeming caved in by a hot brand in the shape of an Omega. Standing over him was a man bearing a mask with a skeletal visage that seemed also me a part of him.

The Story So Far

Chapter 17

The murder of the hapless junkie was most certainly a Sin Eater committing a taboo by using the power of a Deathmask. Vanishing through means on one of his Haunts Cecil was quick to tend to Sami while the rest of the Krew conducted a quick investigation of the scene.

Jason used the Haunt of the Memoria to present what happened as the Krew was away and Faith used the Haunt of the Tomb to refract elements of the scene that played out, namely an echo of the Junkie and the burning brand. Cecil covered up the grotesque scene rendering the corpse into a fine ash and the Krew departed the scene.

Returning to Church however briefly the Krew knew well that the Armageddon Club would move to cover all their loose ends and time was short. Cecil and Rae would investigate the brand Faith crafted while Ophelia and Jason would travel to the scene where the Society of Friends meet their fate and Faith would interrogate the simple apparition for any more information.

Cecil, Sami, Faith, and Rae gathered at church and discussed their finding information before pontificating on possible theories.
Making their way to the museum Rae was able to pull a workable set of fingerprints off of the brand and through one of Cecils contacts they were able to match it to a name Julius Russell, a ward of the state as a child he was one of the children supported by the Society of Friends and sent to the Penmark Academy, he would go to prison for the murder of an border patrol agent during an inspection of a believed artifact smuggling ring, the case was dismissed because of some legal technicality.

Jason and Ophelia made their way to a desolate region of Long Island where an exclusive resort once stood and the Society of Friends meet its end. Ophelia departed to investigate the ruins of the building while Jason was drawn to the beach. There he meet a grizzled man who eventually gave the name of Louis and said he was a surviving member of the Society of Friends. He explained that by the time of the incident a few years ago that the Penmark family was nearly destitute and made their way through an elaborate banking scheme that saw them manage all of the Society of Friends money. He was blind to all but the world of the dead lingering there on the beach after coming to several months after the incident emerging from a fuge. The waters of the coastline there were haunted by the ghost of the Society of Friends.

Faith brought the echo of the Junkie back to her apartment for questioning although the being lacked the mental faculties to provide detail. Discorporatng the entity she found an etching of what appeared to be the combination to a safe, notifying her Krew and checking up on Walker she then made her way to the temple to talk about things with the high priestess. Faith explained her sense of isolation but the High Priestess simply explained that she was set apart and above from the others, she then revealed that she was far older then she appeared having personally meet Abraham Penmark explaining that he was not just an occultist but also a necromancer and while she confirmed he was dead, she suggested that was not the end of his influence.

Rae, Faith, Cecil, and Sami gathered at church to discuss what they had learned. Pontificating on the implications Stitch Face manifested and removed the stitching on his mouth.

The Story So Far

Chapter 18

The silent Ghost known as Stitchface removed the threads which bound his lips shut. The discussion about the Penmark Academy and Abraham Penmark seemed to evoke an emotional memory in the Ghost who in a moment of clarity warned that Jason was in grave peril. It was decided that Cecil would pursue Jason, he instructed Faith, Rae and Sami to return to the Academy with Stitchface and see what they could learn there.

Working quickly the Krew made their way to the Academy where Stitchface fell into his death cycle. He had explained that his body was just one of countless others bound in that places walls. The Krew made their way to the more furnished end of the Academy where the dorms and actual classes were.

Stitchface lead them to the “play room” where there was the expected decay of the place. Stitchface manipulated his Plasm to reveal the nature of his death. Within the room stood four Prefects and Ava Yu, the Ghost the Krew interacted with sometime earlier. They proceeded to electrocute the girl to death while Stitchface looked on. Noticing they were caught they gave chase through the dorms and ultimately to a private room where Mrs. Strangelove and a younger Ophelia were waiting. Stitchface apparently pleaded with Ophelia but she did not seem to respond. Mrs Strangelove gave a nod leaving something with Ophelia and making her exit.

The Prefects heals down Stitchface and they methodically stitched his lips shut. With the Prefects overseeing Ophelia then injected Stitchface with a serum that ended his life. It was revealed that Ophir was somehow related to Mrs Strangelove and that Stitchface was in fact her brother. In closer analysis of Ophelia’s room in the Penmark Academy a diary was found as was a slew of psychoactive medications.

Meanwhile Jason concluded his conversation with the hermit Louis and offered his some shelter and a chance to put his life together. Louis agreed after some prodding and Jason set off to find Ophelia and see if she had learned anything even as storm clouds gathered.

Ophelia was uncharacteristically chatty explains how Jason only understood a fraction of what he was and had only scratched the surface of his potential. Jason was intrigued but something did not sit well with him but he agreed nevertheless.

Content that she had done her job to completion she ordered her monstrous Geist to restrain Jason’s own. It was then that the shade of Abraham Penmark manifested before Jason with his other servant beside him. Offering Jason the chance to dominate his Geist and take on the power of a Deathmask. Realizing he could never being himself to do such a thing he Unleashed his Geist who made short work of Ophelia and this discorporated her own Geist but they found the masked Sin Eater to be far more of a threat.

An opportunity opened up when Cecil arrive hitting the masked Sin Eater with a car. Abraham seized control of the lingering Ghost to end the battle beneath a tide of the dead. Cecil commanded Jason to make his retreat and the order was obliged. Jason grabbed Louis and made their retreat.

The Bleak Hearts demonstrated remarkable cohesion and unity. Their enemies were lashing out from all angles. Faith did not wish her family to be risked Sami and the Ghost of young Neal Ross safely escorted her family away while her associate Sasha offered safety for Jason. Rae went to work following Cecils command to archive everything at church even with a tertiary glance he learned more esoteric secrets which Cecil knew. Moving in unison the Krew collected what they could of their belongings and prepared for the coming storm.

Indeed there was a man waiting to kill Jason at his apartment but he ran afoul of the gruesome artist Jason had befriend. Cecil was left to face Penmark’s horde while something also seemed to attack Marco of the Ferrymen.

The Story So Far

Chapter 19

The Krew was dispersed as they made their preparations, Faith would look into what happened with Marco while Jason and Rae would look into what happened to Cecil.

Faith noticed very quickly that she was being followed by a team of living members of the Armageddon Club. They pursued her through the streets and she found herself unable to slip their attention. It was only when walking through a more crowded area that she bought any freedom of movement for herself and found herself being followed by Luca who quickly grabbed her attention and lead Faith and her pursuers past a subway platform and into the lair of his master. The gunmen quickly followed even drawing weapons, while Faith ruthlessly dispatched one of the men she found them to numerous and was shot in the leg. Before all hell could break loose the fog that hung over the space turned against the gunmen driving them to a panic before being dispatched. The creature that so enthralled Luca stated that their debts were settled and that they would meet again.

Pressing onwards Faith was able to find the bookstore where Marco was attacked and luckily find him a little while later. It seemed that the same men who attacked her had earlier gone after him. He offered his assistance in finishing what had been started.

Jason and Rae made their way out to the ruined resort out on Long Island where the storm Jason had left had grown in intensity. While police carried out evacuations the Sin Eaters saw there was more to this storm then simple weather. The wailing dead howled on its winds crawling ashore and bringing with them tides of doom. A potent Geist swam in the haunted waters acting as sentinel to a massive Avernian Gate. It also seemed Abraham was not quite done targeting Jason as the fury of the storm grew focused both Sin Eaters had to call upon their powers in order to survive. Only when Jason had taxed the creatures will was Rae then able to force the Geist back through the Gate and calm the storm.

Looking around the aftermath they could find no sign of Cecil and were taken aback by a phone call. It was Ophelia who was contacting them at the instruction of Abraham Penmark, they had captured Cecil and challenged Jason and his companions to learn about the truth of the Bleak Hearts as they faced extermination in any case.

Gathering at Raes place of work at the museum where he had complied all of the lore he had gathered on the Bleak Hearts and with Faith, Jason, and Marco the origin of the Krew was painted before them.

The founders of the Krew were all returned Union Soldiers from the US Civil War. Originally founding the Krew on Hart Island in New York City the Furies sought to punish the lingering dead but as they traveled from battlefield to battlefield they grew in cruelty by the time they returned to the city they did not care about any affiliations and simply sought to dominate ghost. Eventually the founder would pass and the next generation of Bleak Hearts were not as vengeful as the founder and yet by this time Abraham Penmark was an influential Necromancer in the Krew. Differing opinions lead to a schism that divided the Krew with the Bleak Hearts becoming more moderate and Abraham and his followers creating the Masons of Giza which would eventually mutate into the Armageddon Club.

Knowing that Ophelia, Abraham, and the Armageddon Club awaited them on Hart island Jason suggested calling on Cecils reputation with the cities ghost to give them the chance to thwart the Armageddon Club.

Chapter 20

The Krew quickly commandeered a small vessel that Rae haunted and transported the Krew to Hart Island. They arrived with little fan fair finding a collapsing building over what seemed to be a small artificial cave complex. Investigating the building they found the deranged writings of members of the Armageddon Club. Finding a television which Abraham Penmark communicated to them through. He offered them to join him but the Krew flatly refused.
