The Bleak Hearts

Origins
The Bleak Hearts trace their origins back to soldiers and their companions returning to the city after the Civil War. So great was the death that rocked the nation as a result of the conflict that the founding Bound realized that their struggles did not end when the war did. Countless Ghost some of whom were their comrades or just other people touched by the war.


As time went on the Bleak Hearts became involved with Ghost beyond those touched by the war and their mediating practices broadened. While the size of the Krew has changed over the years the one area which the Bleak Hearts have very little experience with pertains to the Underworld as more often then not they find themselves in conflict with those Reapers who emerge from that dark pace with the goal of dragging others there.


Now the Bleak Hearts are a relatively small Krew consisting of only a handful of Sin Eaters, their Geist companions and a few allied Ghosts. Recently their leader Cecil O'Neill has sought to expand the Krew actively looking in to ways to accomplish this.

Touchstones:

Physical Appearance: A man with pale skin and blue eyes with almost an emerald shine to them. His build is modest not meek but not imposing with his natural inclination being to rely on his wit. Otherwise he tends to always be well dressed donning a complete three piece suit typically with gold details. Despite being in his younger thirties his dark hair is showing some signs of silver.

What We Know: The calm mild mannered leader of the Bleak Hearts has revealed very little about himself as he keeps to himself but despite this the Krew is held together through his intelligence. Most times he is preoccupied in pursuit of occult knowledge, dealing with Ghost and studying Mementos. It has been said he was a lawyer before making the Bargain and it is from this career that many of the Krew’s living Contacts are drawn.

Touchstones:

Physical Appearance: A meek women with pale skin and tired weary eyes colors blue and almost always seemingly looking to the distance. Her hair is a faded blond kept short and her demeanor makes it easy to confuse her for a much older women when in truth she is in her twenties. Her dress could be considered conservative and plain but closer attention to detail reveals every article of clothing to be of the finest quality.

What We Know: The single heiress to a family fortune derived from old money. Now wealthy beyond her intreats she has given the Krew access to much of her fortune. Capable of quaint conversation and otherwise very mild mannered she is prone to fits of isolation.

Touchstones:

Physical Appearance: He is a young man in his early to mid twenties in all likelihood. He bares a strong muscular appearance and carries his own fair shear of scars on his sun touched skin. His hair is brown short and messy and his eyes are likewise colored carrying an air of menace to them to anyone he stares down. He dresses simple with a plain T-shirt and blue jeans and a jacket and a gold chain he keeps tucked away.

What We Know: He is not from the city and must of moved here recently because he is still learning the lay of the land. With that said he is not one to backdown from a fight and is quick to anger and carries a personality that is something between stern and braggadocios. He is a relatively new member of the Bleak Hearts only joining several months earlier.

Physical Appearance: He is a young man perhaps in late teens from the appearance of his Corpus. He wears a persistent smile on his face while his eyes glow with a fierce bloody red. His hair is a mess as are his clothes which almost seemed burned by something.

What We Know: He is a jokester, inclined to pulling pranks on those in the Krew and others who linger in Twilight. Aside from this he is a relatively amicable Ghost and whatever is truly known about him is confined to Cecil.

Physical Appearance: This Geist is the most distant from humanity of all the Geist and Ghost in the Bleak Hearts. This hulking monstrosity is a patchwork of white flesh and fur built on a powerful frame of muscle. It has horns the shape of antlers which appear like a crown atop its head and an eyeless face with a mouth of fangs. Its arms are nearly as thick as a tree trunk with clawed appendages which it drags behind itself.

What We Know: Outside of the creatures inclination for violence nothing is known and Ophelia does not shear what secrets she has learned. It does not communicate doing little more then grunting when not called to violence.

Physical Appearance: He is a young man whose skin is white with a porcelain shine to it, his hair is dark and messily combed back while is eyes are blue but with appearance of jaundice to them. Perhaps his most distinct feature would be his arms which almost seemed to have been skinned and stitched.

What We Know: His past is a mystery even to Sami however he is one of the Krew’s more social Geist never afraid to engage in a little conversation although he can come off as brash or even condescending.

Physical Appearance: He is a young man in his early twenties dressed in tattered fine clothes. His features are soft and inviting and he looks as if he is accustomed to being well put together and yet his clothes are in poor shape and his hair is a sandy blond mess. His mouth is stitched completely shut nearly going from one ear to the other.

What We Know:  The Krew knows very little about the Ghost the Knows other then he simply turns up places. When the Krew meets or when they gather individually he simply there standing and watching.

The Krew’s main hangout is an old maintenance house located in a remote yet strangely accessible part of Cyprus Hills Cemetery which straddles both Brooklyn and Queens. The building itself is relatively small and certainly has a rundown appearance both within and without.

In the claustrophobic basement consist of a crude old fashioned generator and boiler. The main floor consist of a quaint living space and a small dining area with a table and a few chairs from different sets of furniture.

Lastly is another small space which consist of a bathing area and headroom. Attached to the main building is a supply shed where the Krew can store small things.

Being located in so large of a graveyard means there is no shortage of local Ghost and the building itself seems to creek with an otherworldly ambiance.

 Key: Deep Waters
Description: A simple leather bound black book with yellow stained pages. The book always feels damp to the touch and ink floss across offering up revelations of the path forward.
Effect: When traversing the Underworld this Memento can be used to navigate more effectively. This book adds a +2 die bonus to research the right ways to take when determining what is the proper Leg, more so if this roll is successful the subsequent roll to navigate the Underwold achieves an Exceptional Success with 3 Success.
