The Zenyil

Notables of the Zenyil family

Oscar Zenyil Current head of the family. A count

                       Uncle to Biatrice and Vanessa.

Biatrice Zenyil Contender for the position of Countess Zenyil

Vanessa Zenyil Contender for the position of Countess Zenyil

Broderick Duggans Husband to Vanessa.

                       Administrator of Ladder's Ending

Grady Obertz From a branch family

Considered the foremost hunter on the Redtide Coast

The political situation in the Zenyil family is tense.  When the last Count died, his will did not name a successor.  His two daughters, who had always hated each other, began to feud  for the title.

Their uncle Oscar was able to get enough support to assume the role on a temporary basis.  He has proposed a contest.  The sisters have a year.  In that year, the one who brings the largest benefit to the Zenyil clan will be the one he concedes the title to.

The Patrosk

The Patrosk are the only family with non-human members.  The core family is mostly half elven.  They marry in humans and elves at regular frequencies that keeps the bloodline from thinning.

They also adopt promising members of other races.  These "stepchildren" are considered full members of the family, but their children do not necessarily inherit their parents position.  Instead, the child must prove themselves to the core family who will then acknowledge the child as a Patrosk.

On paper, the system seems egalitarian.  And it has enabled the Patrosk to field the by far most competent bureaucracy on the Redtide Coast.  But it has also lead to much bitterness.  One never has to go far to find the son or daughter of a "stepchild" who couldn't follow in their parents footsteps.

Bilup Patrosk Current head of the family. Half elf. A count

His wife died two years ago and he is looking
                     for a new bride

Fabian Patrosk Human. Bilup's half brother

Blind. Fabian is known as a patron for musicans

Lexa Patrosk A halfling. Stepchild of the family

                     Administrator assigned to Ladder's End

Bluglot Patrosk A gnome. Stepchild of the family

He is the de facto leader of the gnome settlement
                     on Smythers

Welgo Higgins Human. Mayor of the human settlement on Smythers

Salt Lick Pt 1

Salt Lick Repost of the information from The Redtide Coast thread

Salt Lick is a small fishing village near the northern end of the Redtide Coast.  It is home to about 80 souls. Primarily human, about 20 of its residents belong to other races.

The town charter allows it to hunt whales for a month in early autumn.  On average, the town will capture two to three whales, which they rely on for winter stores.  They make a small profit off scrimshaw from the bones.  Their craftsmen are good but not great.

Their main fame is Gomb, a spicy fish stew which, despite the name, is delicious.  The spice blend for Gomb is secret of the town’s only Inn, Grat’s Packets.  That’s the name.  You’d have to ask a local as to where it came from.

Orus Coombs, a distant relative of the Grunnels, serves as the town administrator.  He is mostly concerned with collecting the taxes and trying to grow the scrimshaw trade.

Norvis Potts is the town marshal and only full time member of the town guard.  There are a few men who are sworn in and will step in during emergencies, but by and large Norvis is the one patrolling and keeping an eye on things.  During the spring, summer, and fall he will employ a mercenary or two.  Summer and early fall during the whaling season are when bandits or gnoll raids are common.  The last major raid was forty years ago.  Usually it’s just a small band that attacks outlaying farms.  Most of the farmers handle the matters themselves.

The Widow Parkins is the town aristocrat.  Her husband was a trader who did well in Coinhaven and retired back in his hometown of Salt Lick.  When he passed, the Widow remained, too entrenched in the community to return to society in Coinhaven.  She is a shrewd business woman and loans money to fishermen in order to purchase new boats or equipment.  At present, she has liens on about twenty percent of the fishing boats in Salt Lick.  Orus Coombs is a bit concerned about the situation, but not enough to do anything.

Lori Grats is the owner of Grat’s Packets.  She and her husband Bridges Whittaker run the Inn with their four daughters and son.  Lori and her eldest daughter are the only ones who know the spice blend recipe for Gombs.  The family has a small side business trading packets of the spice blend to Coinhaven.  Chefs there have tried to figure out the blend but to date no one has quite been able to get it down exactly.  There’s always something missing.

Nysene Pebblebrook is the local druid.

O'Hooligan's Whiskey

Oak Barrell aged.  With just the right touch of pixie dust to really screw ya up.

If you take a shot, roll a d20.

What you get is what you get.  No saving throws unless otherwise indicated

Roll Result
1 Gain a +2 to the ability score (Str, Wis, Cha, etc.) of your choice

2 You may no longer pronounce the letter Z. You may not use
a Z in any of your dialogue going forward. Any time I find a word
of dialogue that has the letter Z in it, you will lose 1 HP. Permanently

3 Once a story thread, you may redo one roll of your choice. You must
            take the result you reroll

4 Otters fascinate you. You will act like you are under a charm person
spell whenever you are dealing with an otter.

5 Your yodels cause damage. If you pass a Performance/Cha test 12- while
yodeling, your yodel will act as a Sonic Scream with a 3 round duration.

6 The color orange smells like moontoad spit to you. Sufficient amounts
of the color orange will cause you to make a FORT save 8- or be nauseated
until you can no longer see all that orange

7 Your eyes now change color depending on your emotional state. Deception
tests are all made at -2. Intimidation tests can now be made at +1, assuming
            you are really angry

8 Someone with the initials GV becomes aware of your existence and falls
painfully in love with you. They are coming to find you. They will make you
            theirs.

9 Dwarves love you. You smell like beer to them. All friendly interaction
rolls with a dwarf are made at +1

10 The word "monotone" makes you uncomfortable. There's a lot of bad memories
there. If only you could remember what they were.

11 Umbrellas terrify you. You must make a WIL test 14- to take any action other
than flee when an umbrella is present.

12 You can no longer speak one of the languages you know. Common is not affected
And if all you can speak is Common, the whiskey does nothing to you.

13 You lose a point off your second highest ability score (Con, Dex, Int, etc.).

14 Any time you tell a "Yo Momma" joke against an opponent, and it makes me
chuckle, you get a +1 to all attack rolls against that opponent

15 You lose a level off your highest trained skill. You gain two levels in a
            skill you are untrained on.

16 The whiskey is so good, nothing else will ever compare. You can no longer
drink alcohol. If you do, no matter how good it is, it will leave you bitter
and disappointed. All your rolls will be a -1 for the next game time day.

17 No matter where you go...you will find a mimic. Or more precisely, a mimic
            will find you.

18 You are now cursed with bad footwear. Any pair of boots, shoes, sandals, clogs
etc. will rot within a two days of first going onto your feet.

19 You have an Unseen Servant. His name is Happy. He's not. He's not
Happy at all. You may command him to perform three actions a day. No he cannot
            fight for you.

20 Roll twice. You may chose which of the two results you wish to keep. Also your
            tongue is now blue.

Enlightenment

The Journal of Brother Otus Farjogger of the Wafting Leaf Monastery

8210 Season of Rain...Brother Tobo has once again awakened us all in the middle of the night, screaming about his visions.  "The mirror," he says.  "Someone is looking into the mirror"...

8211 Long Night Season...The abbot has forbidden us from venturing out from our cloisters after dark.  "If any come to your door until the bell for morning prayers sound, do not answer it," he has told us.  We are all in shock.

How can we not help out our brothers who suffer from this malady?  I myself am one of the few who still have not had these dreams about a mirror.  Those who have will not talk about it, at least to those of us who have not had it.  They instead keep to themselves, mumbling to each other, casting glances at us.  I do not know how to describe the looks they give us.  Envy maybe?  Fear?  It's as if they are afraid of us for not having these nightmares.

And all night long, I must listen to their cries and screams and groans.  This is much worse than it was with Brother Tobo.  Much, much worse.

8212 Flowering Season...The last of them is buried now.  There is only myself left.  And Abbot Hovin.  Abbot Hovin is not doing well.  I wasn't able to properly sear shut the stump where his left arm had been.  I would have liked to have kept him alive for at least a little while.

Has he really seen the face of the man who looked into the mirror?  I have to know.

I can't see what's reflected in the mirror.  Just the back of the figure standing in front of it.  I have to see his face.  I need to see the look in his eyes.

I now understand the way my brothers used to stare at me back then.  When I didn't have the dreams.  It wasn't envy.  I do not envy those who have not dream of the mirror.  I fear them.  I am afraid they will get to see it before I can.

Brother Tobo tried to warn us.  "If you don't see it the first time you look, you will never see it," he would scream.

I get it now.  I understand.  There is nothing worse in this life then having a chance to see, really see, and missing it because someone else was standing in front of you.

8212 Season of Rain...The captain says we are now almost two days to the Red Tide Coast.  It has to be here.  The butterflies would not lie to me.

The back of the toad's tongue.

The medusa's permission.

Living through the long night of splinters.

Then I can put the mirror back together again.

I will at last be able to fucking see.

I'll kill everyone aboard as soon as we're close enough to land I can swim for it.
