Hammer and Tongs
Tegan helped Zenphar carry the equipment that the band of adventurers had looted liberated from the bandits over to the smithy and shop run by Ghor. Just walking in reminded the young paladin of his childhood -- he had spent his formative years working alongside his father in just such a setting.
He stood in the doorway to the shop, his arms crossed across his chest, and waited while the Elf and the Half-Orc conducted their business. After a short while he ambled over to the three sets of splint mail that were on display. Ukhtusk had already chosen a set for himself, and Tegan eyed the two that were left. "This is good workmanship," he said over his shoulder to Ghor. "Did you forge and craft this armor yourself?"
Tegan found a set that looked like it would fit him well, with few adjustments needed. "I want this set," he said to Ghor. He took a moment to slip out of the chain mail that he was wearing, and set it down on the counter. "Half-value for this on a trade-in, I assume," he remarked. The paladin well knew that was the standard arrangement, and he was not inclined to haggle with a smith who was as accomplished in his craft as Ghor seemed to be.
"This chain mail should clean up nicely. I have just come in out of the field, and have not yet had a chance to clean it and polish it up. You will find it well-crafted, with no broken or missing rings."
Next, Tegan slipped his pack from his back and pulled out a small bag that clinked loudly when he set it down on the counter. He then counted out the difference between the trade-in value of his chain mail and the cost of the splint mail, and arranged the coins in neat stacks on the counter-top.
"There you go," he told Ghor. Gesturing to the splint mail that he had chosen, he asked "Can I wear this out of here? I'll be sure to tell anyone who asks where I got it." He knew that smiths counted on word of mouth from satisfied customers to generate new business.
OOC: I am assuming the standard trade-in value of Tegan's chain mail (37 Golden Lions, 5 Silver Falcons). He will pay the difference from the bag containing 200 Golders that Gaulmod tossed to him.
