Re: OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

I like that we used both media NPCs!

Not just because one of them is my NPC...but it does not bother me ether!

OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

Evie does not have a phone and thus no way to receive texts. She just shows up when there is wrongdoing. If the blaze were intentionally set, she would be drawn there when the arsonist started it, not after it had been burning for a time. Wrongdoing resonates within her heart of darkness. (Psychometry = Detect Evil, especially if combined with Principle Of The Inner Demon.)

In reply to Evie O'Fife (msg # 168):

I could have gotten her a phone if she wanted one. A burner phone so it can't be traced easily.

You could have sensed it, but it took time to get to the building for some reason.

OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

A very good reason to show up when dramatically appropriate.

OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

Name: Chief Sandra Grimes
First Appearance:

What is this person fundamentally like?
An idealistic, long suffering, chief of police. Grimes is a very rare package of a female minority who has made it to the top through despite all the various obstacles put in her path.

Why does this person try to help heroes?
Avoiding Corruption. This person knows that much of the police department is corrupt, and they aid the heroes since they believe other police officers actively stymie efforts to catch criminals. Grimes is trying to reform the police, but her efforts are stymied by an entrenched system that rewards such corruption.

What kind of aid does this person provide to heroes?
Tips and Intel. This person frequently funnels information to the heroes that would otherwise be known only to the police. Given how the system works, Grimes cannot directly act on behalf of the heroes.

Who has it out for this person?
A Powerful Group. This person has made enemies in SE14: The Crime Syndicate. The Way would much rather have a chief of police directly under their thumb. However, they are willing to bide their time and let the system remove Grimes. They do not wish to make her a martyr and expose themselves by direct action.

What does this person fear the most?
Career. This person’s career is always on the line, and those who have it out for this person frequently make moves to end it. Grimes knows she cannot directly act in ways that would allow her various rivals to remove her from office. Even if The Way was not present, the various normal corruption that threatens to replace her often ties her hands.

OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

Name: Dr. Marissa Polnick
First Appearance:

A jaded long-suffering police scientist.

Why does this person try to help heroes?

Frustration. This person is frustrated with the ineffectiveness of the police force in dealing with powered villains and aids the heroes in the hopes of helping to bring criminals to justice.

What kind of aid does this person provide to heroes?

Tips and Intel. This person frequently funnels information to the heroes that would otherwise be known only to the police.

Who has it out for this person?

Other Police Officers. Other people on the police force do not appreciate this person’s coziness with powered heroes and make veiled (and not-so-veiled) threats from time to time.

What does this person fear the most?

Family. Threats have been made against this person’s family, and this person fears that their family could come to harm.

We've not heard from Undertaker in quite some time. I hate to be the one to suggest it, but...move on without him for now?

Any time the weather is nice, RPOL posting rates suffer. None too surprising, really.

Sorry for my inactivity as well. Having a hard time getting back into routine after the holidays as well as having to cover other people's work while they are on holiday.

Re: OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

So this game appears to be dead. Are people still interested in the system? I could maybe try to do something similar as a GM if people wanted.

Re: OOC: Setting Creation and Out of Character

Why does any decent game system fizz out here, while ones poorly suited for play-by-post do not?

Like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop, the world may never know...

not sure what is happening on rpol at the moment I've joined 4 games including this one over the last few months and all seem to have closed down......and there doesn't seem to be many games I actually want to play turning up to replace them either .....there just seems to be a lot of pathfinder or d&D 5ed about

The one game I am in that is still running will celebrate its fourth anniversary just before Christmas. I am the last remaining original player, and we have had several come and go.
